"So you're pregnant but dead? How does that work?" Tyler whispered as they walked up the steps.
"I don't know, it's complicated."
Carol, Tyler, and Maya enter the house to find two men standing in the foyer.
"Who the hell are you two?" Tyler asked the question that Maya was just thinking.
"Tyler, it's okay. They're here for your protection," Carol explained.
"More deputies?"
Klaus entered the room from the parlor with another man following him. "Not exactly."
"They're hybrids," Tyler said with a sigh.
"I was halfway to Chicago when I heard you were attacked. I had hoped to leave Mystic Falls for good, but duty calls."
"Nice to know you care."
"I don't. I should have killed you for the little stunt you and your friends pulled. Stopping my heart, leaving me in a coffin to rot."
Maya cleared her throat awkwardly, and points back at the front door she had just came through, "I'm going to go...to the store. Need anything Tyler, Ma? Nope. Good."
Maya quickly ran out before anyone could say anything.
As she began to drive away, someone stood behind the car resulting in her slamming on the breaks. Klaus walked toward the front of the car and got in the passenger seat.
"What are you doing?" Maya asked the hybrid.
"I'm going to the store with you."
"Why?"
"Maybe because there is a hunter on the loose and you are fighting for three now."
"Who told you?"
"Word about a pregnant tribrid spreads fast."
"Hmm, fine you can come," Maya said before pulling out of the driveway.
"It wasn't really up for discussion."
Maya rolled her eyes before driving to the store.
They entered the building and received looks from those who were already there.
"What do you need?" Klaus asked looking around.
"Uh," Maya began quickly coming up with something, "ice cream."
"Ice cream?"
"You know that frozen product?"
"I know what ice cream is, I just don't know why you need it."
"I may not need to eat but these babies like their ice cream."
They made their way to the frozen food aisle when Maya's phone rang. She looked down at the screen and saw it was Meredith, "Can you grab any ice cream that's not chocolate? I'll only be a minute."
She answered the phone, "Are the results back?"
"Yeah, one of the babies is his."
"What about the other one?"
"I don't know whose it is but it's not his."
"That makes no sense, the only person I've slept with other then Liam is..." Maya trailed off when she looked back at Klaus who was concentrating on the selection of ice creams.
"Can I call you back?" Maya said, hanging up before Meredith could say anything else.
Maya made her way back over to Klaus who still hadn't decided on an ice cream.
"There are too many options, how is a person supposed to pick just one?" Klaus said looking up at Maya.
She laughed at this before reaching in and grabbing a container, "Plain Vanilla is fine."
"Out of all of the options you chose the most basic?"
"What can I say? Vanilla is super underrated."
After grabbing a few more things they checked out and left.
"Who was that on the phone?" Klaus finally asked as they began the drive back to the Lockwood mansion.
"I'm surprised you didn't listen in."
"Everyone is entitled to privacy."
Maya looked at him for a moment before answering, "It was just my doctor scheduling another appointment."
"I assume the doctor is aware of your...condition?"
"Yeah, she is."
Maya pulled into the driveway and saw Caroline's car.
"Go around the back," Maya said, "Find Hayley or something, entertain yourself, only don't kill her."
"Why?" he asked getting out of the car.
"Because I said so, now go, before I make you."
He held his hands up in mock surrender before vamp speeding to the back.
Maya entered the house, groceries in hand, to find Caroline and Tyler kissing.
"Ew, get a room," Maya joked.
"What's with all the testosterone?" Caroline asked looking around the room.
"Hybrids. I'm on house arrest," Tyler said vaguely.
"Says who? Your mom?" Caroline said lowering her voice, "Come on, let's sneak out."
"Not my mom, Caroline."
Caroline furrowed her eyebrows in confusion before relization took over, "You're kidding me. Klaus?"
"Speaking of," Tyler said turning to Maya, "Where is he?"
"I don't know, I think he's talking to Hayley, I sent him around the back when I saw that Caroline was here."
"Who's Hayley?" Caroline asked, mostly to Tyler.
"You should go to the party. I'll be fine here," Tyler said, ignoring the question.
"But, I'd rather hang with you."
"Trust me, I am no fun right now," Tyler said before Caroline left with a huff.
"You didn't tell her?!?" Maya practically shouted at her idiotic brother once Caroline was out of ear shot.
They made there way to the office as Tyler tried to explain. "The time was never right and by the time it was, there was no point. It didn't mean anything and..." Tyler explained but trailed off once he entered the office.
"And what? What lame excuse are you come up with this time? You know Caroline, she will start to think it's something that it's not," Maya said as she joined him in the room and saw Klaus sitting at the desk with his feet up, a smirk plastered on his face.
"She's quite fetching, that Hayley."
"Where is she?" Tyler said unamused.
"Oh, she had to run, but don't worry, I had her take the back door so Caroline wouldn't see."
"Whatever you think you know..." Tyler said taking a step closer.
"I don't know anything, but I've put together a pretty convincing picture, Why don't you tell me where my imagination deviates from reality?" Klaus said with a smug look before standing up and walking toward Tyler, circling around him as he spoke, "You went off to the Appalachians to break my sire-bond. There, you met a pack of werewolves, begged them for help. Among them was a girl. She was gorgeous, with the same animal instincts as you. Emotions ran high, inhibitions ran low-"
"Stop it!" Tyler interrupted.
"-then, in a moment of weakness, the thick sexual tension became something much more real."
"I said stop!" Tyler shouted, now facing Klaus.
"And Caroline has no idea."
Tyler looked at him, jaw dropped. The three stood in silence until the sound of Tyler's phone ringing filled the room.
Klaus answered the phone, a smug look still plastered on his face, "Hello, Damon."
"Klaus? Where's Tyler?" Damon said the confusion obvious in his voice.
"Tyler's otherwise occupied, making big decisions about honesty and whatnot. Is there anything I can do?"
"I'm going after the vampire hunter, so if he'd like to join...?"
"He wouldn't. I, however..." Klaus said trailing off before getting the location of where Connor would be.
He hung up the phone before handing it back to Tyler. "Well this was fun, but I have places to be."
Klaus left the room leaving Tyler and Maya behind.
Maya made a last second decision to go after him, "Wait!" He turned around confused before she continued, "I'm coming."
"Oh, no you're not."
"Yes I am, and if you don't bring me with you, I'll just go on my own. "
He thought it over for a moment then let out a sigh of defeat, "Fine, but we do it my way. Hospital." He then vamp sped away.
Maya quickly went after him and met Damon and Klaus there.
"The trap is already set, now we just wait for Meredith to play her role," Damon explained as they stood on the opposite side of the storage room.
"What are you doing here?" he asked once he noticed Maya.
"I wanted to come."
"That's not a very good reason."
"Let's just kill this son of a bitch."
Connor made his way into the storage room and the sound of the arrows shooting indicated the plan was working.
The three made their way into the closet and found Connor trying to pull the arrow out from his side.
"Keep it up, buddy. We'll be scraping you off the ceiling," Damon joked.
"You two are gonna kill me anyway."
"Well, let's not be too hasty. I feel like we're just getting to know each other!" Klaus said.
"Let's start with the basics. Where are you from? What do you know? Maybe you can cue me in on this 'greater evil,' because I've fought this guy," Damon said as he pointed at Klaus, "and there's nothing more evil than that."
"I'm not telling you anything. And if you think by killin me, it's gonna be over, there's another waiting to take my place."
"See, this is what I like to hear; vague threats, ominous prophecies, disappearing tattoos."
"What do you mean, tattoos?" Klaus said his smirk suddenly dropping from his face.
"Don't bother, you can't see the damn thing."
"There's more to you than meets the eye, isn't there?" Klaus said as he knelt down next to him.
Connor tried to stake him but failed, "Nice try, but I'm faster than your average vampire."
Klaus twists his arm back and takes the stake out. He notices the mark carved into it and recognizes it. "You're one of the Five."
"The what?"
"And I'm faster than your average hunter."
Damon sees that Connor is about to pull the string to the bomb and rushes out of the room dragging Maya with him. The bomb explodes sending Maya and Damon flying. They land face down and turn around to see the fireball slowly disperse.
"Where's Klaus?" Maya immediately said when she saw that he wasn't with them.
"He'll be fine, it probably just hurt like a bitch," Damon said trying to calm her down.
"Do you think the babies are fine? I mean just because I can't die doesn't mean they can't, right?"
Damon stood up and helped Maya off the ground. "I'm sure they're fine," Damon said as he brought her to Meredith who showed up after the bomb exploded.
"I didn't think you were going to blow up the hospital, Damon," Meredith said as she set up the ultrasound machine.
"They are just fine, they're perfect. In fact, if you want, I can tell you they're genders."
"You can?" Maya said gripping Damon's hand.
"Only if you want."
"I want to know."
"Well," Meredith said, turning the screen and pointing to the slightly bigger baby, "baby A is a girl, and baby B," she said pointing to the smaller baby, "is a boy."
Maya couldn't help but smile, she was really going to have a baby, two babies, most vampires could only dream of this.
"Uh," Maya began, pulling a Ziploc bag from her pocket, "I have another hair, I don't think it's his, but if it is, I need to know."
Meredith took the bag and smiled, "I'll run it immediately and get the results back as fast as I can."
She then left the room leaving Damon and Maya alone.
"I actually wanted to ask you something, and this is the perfect chance," Maya began ringing her hands hoping he would say yes.
"What is it?"
"I was wondering, of course it's fine if you say no, it's completely up to you, no pressure. If you need to think about it, that's fine too."
"Maya, calm down."
"Right. Well, I was wondering if, you would maybe be my babies godfather? It's a little bizarre and you may think it's a horrible idea but I trust you. You would be a good parental figure if I and the two father's were unable to take care of them. Considering I have yet even tell the one I know for sure is the father, I don't know if I ever will."
"You're doing it again."
"Sorry, sorry. So?"
"I would be honored."
Maya smiled at her best friend as Meredith reentered the room.
"I have the results. I can share them with him here or he can leave."
"No, he's fine. Just tell me."
"It's positive, he's a match," Meredith said with a small smile before leaving.
Maya's smile dropped and she rubbed her face with her hand, "How is this possible?"
"What?"
"It's Klaus, Klaus is the father of the other baby."
"Oh," Damon said furrowing his eyebrows, "Wait, how?"
"How am I pregnant? Anything is possible."
"Right."
"I have to call Liam, can you call Klaus for me?"
"You're going to tell them?"
"I have to."
He nodded and left the room as Maya picked up her phone and called Liam.
"Hey, are you still here?"
"I was just getting ready to leave. Why?" he answered.
"Can you stop by the hospital before you leave? I need to talk to you."
"Yeah, sure, I'll be there in 10."
"Thank you," Maya said before hanging up.
"How exactly do you plan on explaining this to them?" Damon said as he entered the room.
"I guess we'll see when they get here."
Maya closed her eyes for a moment and before she knew it, 10 minutes had passed. Damon peeked his head into the door, "They're here."
"Send them in, I guess. Can you uh, wait right outside, in case things go south?"
"Yeah. You gonna be okay?"
"It's like ripping off a bandaid."
He nodded before leaving and in his place, Klaus and Liam walked in.
"Uh, hi," Maya said awkwardly, ringing her hands together. "So, there is something I need to tell you both."
They both looked at each other and looked back at her confused.
"As you both know, I'm pregnant. The thing is, they aren't twins. And uh, I really don't know how to say this."
"What is it?" Liam asked even though he had his suspicions.
"You guys are both," she said shifting in her seat uncomfortably, "the father. I totally get it if you guys want nothing to do with them, it's fine. It's a lot to take in and if you need time that's okay as well. I, um, well, I know the gender of each if you would like to know that as well. Only if you do, of course. I don't expect you guys to be okay with this."
"Huh," Liam said putting his hands in his pockets. "I mean, if it's okay with you, I would like to be involved. As of right now, I do have to get back to my pack, I'll let them know of the situation and I'll be back in a week?"
"Yeah, that's fine, whatever is easier for you."
He nodded before leaving the room.
Klaus on the other hand, remained put and stared at her.
"Are you going to say something?" Maya asked anxiously.
He simply ignored her question and left the room.
Maya couldn't help but be surprised, she had thought, out of the two, he would have been happy. Not that she should be surprised that he wasn't. She let out a shaky breath as a tear ran down her cheek. Why was she crying?
Damon entered the room, "Maya..."
Maya shook her head as the tears continued to flow, "I, he..."
"It's going to be okay," Damon said as he joined Maya on the bed and wrapped his arm around her. He stroked her head and pulled her closer and continued repeating, "Everything will be okay..."
She wasn't so sure anymore.
