Daniel's POV
It was only two days ago that I got the devastating phone call.
We were all sitting in the living room, like any other normal day, talking about anything that crossed our mind.
My phone rang with my moms ringtone, so I picked it up and answered it.
"Hey", I casually said.
I remember hearing her not say anything, but instead hearing her sobbing.
"What's wrong?", I had asked her.
All the boys turned to me, probably from hearing the worry in my voice.
"She's gone. Grandma Jo-Joan. She's gone", I remember hearing her say.
I could feel my heart literally break, and my stomach tie in a knot.
I felt like I was gonna be sick.
"I'm s-so sorry, honey. I'll talk to you later", my mom said before quickly hanging up the phone.
I didn't blame her.
"What happened Dani?", Jonah asked me.
I didn't say anything.
I just began to sob, as Jonah held me in a tight hug.
"It's okay", he repeatedly told me.
But it wasn't okay in the slightest.
I lifted my head up after who knows how long.
"She's dead", we're the only words that I could get out of my mouth.
The boys already knew who I was talking about.
My grandma had been sick for a while, and it was only a matter of time.
But I wasn't ready for how soon the time came.
Corbyn's POV
All Daniel told us, is that he wanted to be alone.
He hasn't ate, or drank anything, and has pretty much isolated himself in his bedroom.
We don't know whether we should let him come out on his own, or go up there and help him.
For now we're leaving him be, but I can't stop thinking about him.
I mean, he is my boyfriend.
Well, kind of.
I like him, he likes me, but we haven't really made it official.
He flirts with me, and makes it obvious how he feels.
But who knows what would happen if we told the boys.
Im in the closet, but Daniel is so confident, and I'm jealous.
But, I miss seeing his smile, and hearing his jokes, and gazing into his sparkling blue eyes.
Daniel doesn't deserve any of this, and I so desperately want to hold him, and comfort him.
But, what if it's not the right thing to do.
Daniel's POV
I didn't know it was possible to feel this unbelievably sad.
The feeling of regret, and sadness, and anger, all built up with no way to escape.
My heart is broken in two, and my mind is swirling.
I know that dying is a part of life, but my grandma was my life.
She was my biggest supporter, and not just in my music career.
I came out to her before my own parents.
She told me she had known since when I was little, and she was just waiting for me to say it.
My parents on the other hand, didn't take it that well.
"We love you Daniel, but not your sin", they said to me.
And it really hurt.
My grandma let me move in with her, until I moved in with the boys.
I remember the day I left, and she told me how much she loved me, and how proud she was of me.
It meant a lot.
And now, she's gone.
I feel like a part of me is empty, that now there's a void in my heart.
And who knows if it can ever be filled again.
General POV
After a few minutes of trying to distract his mind, Corbyn gave up, as his thoughts went right back to Daniel.
It's not that he wanted to stop caring, he just hated worrying so much.
And he honestly didn't know why he couldn't let it go.
Corbyn finally came to a conclusion.
I have to go see Daniel, he said to himself.
Corbyn thought about checking with the other boys, but he knew they wouldn't get it.
They didn't know that the two were more than just friends.
So Corbyn got up out of his bed, walked out his door, and stood in front of Daniel's.
He knocks.
"Dani, it's Corbyn", he says.
"Come in", Daniel says quietly.
Corbyn opens the door slowly, and shuts it behind him.
He sits next to Daniel, who's sitting against his headboard.
"How are you bud?", Corbyn asks.
Daniel shrugs.
He honestly didn't know.
He didn't know whether to feel sad, angry, frustrated, or all of the above.
Daniel just felt so devastated, that there wasn't a feeling to describe it.
Not that he knew at least.
Corbyn looks over at the untouched snacks and water on Daniel's nightstand.
"When's the last time you've eaten, Dani?", he asks in a concerned tone.
Daniel shrugs again.
He couldn't remember, but he didn't care.
"You need to eat something. You're gonna starve yourself", Corbyn says, picking up a breakfast bar.
"I'm not hungry", Daniel says.
"I'm sorry Daniel, but I care about you. Just eat this one bar for me, and I'll let you be", Corbyn insists.
Daniel just shakes his head.
"Come on, please?", Corbyn asks.
"No", Daniel says.
Corbyn thinks about asking again, but doesn't want to upset him.
"Okay. Do you need anything else?", Corbyn asks.
Daniel doesn't really have to answer.
Corbyn knows that the younger boy needs a shower, a new change of clothes, a toothbrush, and about three days worth of sleep.
But he again says nothing, and shrugs his shoulders.
"You wanna be left alone?", Corbyn finally decides to ask.
"I don't know", Daniel responds.
Corbyn scoots closer to Daniel, and holds him in his lap.
He strokes his hair, telling him to go to sleep, knowing that he needs it.
Daniel shuts his eyes, letting the exhaustion take over and drifting off to sleep within seconds.
Corbyn just holds him there, hoping that he would open up.
Wishing that there was something he could do.
But for now, Daniel was at peace.
A week after the call...
General POV
Daniel decided that he should come out of his room.
He knew the boys, especially Corbyn, were worried about him.
So, he decided to walk down the stairs to the kitchen, to grab some food and water.
But he never reached the kitchen.
Halfway downstairs, Daniel felt unbalanced and dizzy.
As black spots swirl all throughout his vision, he desperately tries to steady himself.
Luckily he reaches the bottom of the stairs.
But as soon as he does, his eyes close, and he falls forward, losing consciousness.
Zach was the only one in the kitchen, and after hearing the thud, he saw Daniel's practically lifeless body.
"Oh my god", Zach says.
"Jonah!".
The rest of the boys come rushing down the stairs, to see Zach hovering over Daniel, his arms shaking.
"Jack, take Zach upstairs", Jonah says.
He knew the younger one was freaked out, and had a hard time handling stuff like this.
Jonah quickly runs over to Daniel, as Jack grabs Zach's hand and runs upstairs.
"Corbyn call an ambulance", Jonah says, trying to hide the worry in his voice.
Corbyn nods, and almost drops his phone from his hands shaking.
"Dani, can you hear me? Daniel?", Jonah says putting a hand on Jonah's forehead.
He puts his ear against Daniel's chest, relieved that his heart was beating.
Corbyn hangs up the phone after being told an ambulance was on its way, then brings a wet wash rag from the kitchen.
He puts it on Daniel's forehead, just as they hear the sirens.
"Only one person will fit in the ambulance, so you go", Jonah tells Corbyn.
"Why me?", he asks.
"I'm not stupid Corbs. I see the way you look at him, and how he looks at you. Just go", Jonah replies with a smile.
Corbyn's cheek blush, and he opens the front door for the EMT's.
They haul Daniel onto a stretcher, and put him in the ambulance with Corbyn.
The rest of the boys drive down to the hospital in Jack's car.
Jack sat in the back with Zach to make sure he didn't panic, while Jonah drove.
They reached the hospital in about ten minutes, and found Corbyn in the waiting room, nervously pacing and crossing his arms.
"Hey, is he okay?", Zach asks him.
"I-I don't know. They said they'll tell us when they know", Corbyn says.
Zach nods, and sits down in a chair.
Jack sits down next to him, followed by Jonah and Corbyn.
It had only been 15 minutes, and Corbyn was already getting more nervous.
Jonah puts a hand on his bouncing leg, shooting him a reassuring smile.
Luckily, the doctor was able to get a quick diagnosis from obvious symptoms, so he was in the waiting room shortly after.
Jonah stands up, followed by the others boys, looking at the doctor desperately.
"Okay, so it's nothing serious. The initial reason for loss of consciousness was dehydration, but we also noticed that he is deprived of sleep, and hasn't been eating well. Something going on at home?", the doctor says.
"His grandma passed a few days ago, and he's been taking it really hard", Corbyn says.
"Oh, I see. Well we put him on an IV and gave him a sedative so he could sleep. We're going to keep him overnight. And if I'm being honest with you, we will probably have to do a depression evaluation", the doctor tells them.
"Depression? Is it that bad?", Jack asks.
"He probably doesn't have a very severe case, if any at all. Whether or not he's diagnosed with it though, I'm going to send him to therapy", he replies.
"Also, you guys can all stay. If you don't mind sharing beds. We could put two in his room", the doctor adds.
"That'll be fine", Corbyn says, knowing all the boys already agree.
"I'll get on it".
Jonah nods, as the doctor walks away, needing to tend to another patient.
They sit back down, relieved that the he would be okay.
But they didn't know how long it would take.
A few months later...
Daniel was in fact diagnosed with depression, and was in the hospital for three days.
He started seeing a therapist, and now, he's a lot happier.
The boys helped him through it, each therapy session, each breakdown, and each bad day.
And as for Corbyn and Daniel, now their together, and happier than ever.
It turns out the boys could tell, before they even told them.
And one thing they learned, is that there's always a rainbow after rain.
