I Like Me Better - Lauv || "If we lay, let the day just pass us by I might get to too much talking I might have to tell you something...Damn, I like me better when I'm with you"
Before our eyes, the seasons were quickly beginning to change. The cool air was slowly leaving us for brighter skies. This meant spring was close and everyone could feel the excitement. It was around this time that we started to have more activities take place on campus as well as submitting out internships for the summer.
With the school years end fast approaching it was imperative for us to get our names out there for the summer. We needed to have at least some idea of where we were going to be working so we could relocate and prepare before the last day of school. I had a few places in mind when it came to where I wanted to go. Shockingly, Bakugou had a few of my picks on his list as well. I only knew this because we submitted ours at the same time last week.
He had finally returned back to school fully healed and I couldn't have been happier. It was nice having him back with me. I always knew I enjoyed his company, but I didn't realize just how much until he was out for that short time. On the other hand, everyone else was still unsure of us even after my big announcement to the whole class 1-A on my way to the hospital. Bakugou didn't seem to mind the stares much and I followed his lead. Tapping my pencil against the corner of my desk I couldn't help but look up to the front of the class in the direction of his desk. Bakugou's blonde hair bounced slightly when he wrote his notes as his hand moved meticulously against the paper. He was so cute when he worked hard in class. I always liked that about him.
Hearing Mr. Aizawa clear his throat I quickly snap my attention to the front of the class. He had his sleeping bag wrapped around his face as he made his announcement. "Alright, so our parent day is coming up this weekend, make sure to get in touch with your mom, dad, guardian ... and figure out who's coming so we can make a head count". As soon as he finished he dropped down to the floor and was fast asleep.
I felt a frown push down my face as I looked to my paper and scribbled into it. What's the use, it is not like my mom and dad would even be here anyway. They were always so busy with work and saving money so a trip into the city would just be... a waste of time. I missed them terribly, but the reality of it was that they would never be able to make the trip and I would just have to settle for the phone calls every so often. I've dealt with it a number of times before and expected it now, no hard feelings. Right?
The bell rang in the distance as I remained in my seat for a minute still spacing out. I wanted to call my dad and beg him to be here, plead to be beside me and enjoy a day of fun where he and my mother could meet all my new friends at school, but I already could hear his response.
"Hey Ochaco?" a voice boomed beside me as I looked up. Bakugou stood with his hands in his pockets and his back hunched over slightly "Ready to go?" his eyebrows furrowed in a questioning way. Could he tell us was upset?
"O-oh yeah sorry," I say throwing my things in my bag as Bakugou takes hold of the straps throwing my bag over his shoulder along with his own as we make our way out of the dull room. I could tell Bakugou was worried, but I kept quiet as we walked down the steps in silence. I knew the minute he asked me I would start crying.
As classmates pushed past us with wide eyes I continued my gaze down the stairs with Bakugou attached to my hip. I wanted to tell him, confide in the fact I feel a bit hurt, but I didn't want to bother him too much. Why ruin such a beautiful day.
"Want to walk outside during our break?" I say happily as he looks down through the side of his eye.
"Sounds good to me," He says with a smile.
Making our way out into the warm air I stretch my arms out letting the breeze wash over me. Bakugou set our bags down by the front door of the school hidden behind a bush as he pushed his hands in his pockets walking beside me.
"So, are you going to tell me what's eating you floaty?" he scoffed still staring straight as we began walking the bike path outside our dorms. I wasn't surprised that he knew what I was feeling, but I was surprised at how blunt he was. He never really liked to beat around the bush much.
"I just wish my parents could be here this weekend is all"
"Do they know this?"
"W-well... no, not exactly.."
"Damnit floaty.. How do you expect people to know what's going on in your head?" I look over to him as we continue our stride. He looked back at me and gave a soft smile, "You need to just say fuck it and tell the people around you what your feeling .. you know?"
I laugh thinking about how rich that is coming from him, but he wasn't wrong. I should just text them, shouldn't I? My mind quickly travels to the fact that my parents can't just take off work and spend all that money traveling here... that would just be ...selfish of me.
"You don't get it though Bakugou..." I sigh.
"Then enlighten me"
"It's just, you know how we don't have much back home..."
"Yeah.."
"Well, how are they supposed to take off work and then spend money to come to see me for just one day... that's just... I-I feel selfish enough that I'm here following my dreams instead of helping them out back home.."
Bakugou was silent for a bit. I could hear the gears turning in his head as he stepped rhythmically in tune with me. I have already expressed my own family issues to Bakugou in the past so he was more than familiar with the problem...he just hated seeing me upset and not voicing my opinion to them. Really he hated when I didn't voice my opinion at all. It pissed him off to see people walk all over me and take advantage of my niceness. This I knew for a fact.
"Just forget it Bakugou, no worries" I sigh and he stops in his tracks.
"Well, Angel Face my mom and dad will be there!!" His tone was loud as a smile beamed on his face and quickly a pink hue spread across his cheeks, "so... you can hang out with us and shit... if you want ..." he was so cute when he got excited then quickly embarrassed of his own excitement. I lifted my hand and rested it gently on his arm giving it a slight squeeze, "That sounds great. Thanks, Katsuki" I smile stepping up on my tip toes to kiss his lips sweetly.
--------- That weekend ---------
Tsu and I had spent the whole morning setting up for the parents day. I thought since no one was really coming for me that I could get up early and begin stringing balloons and laying out some table clothes. I was excited to see Mitsuki and Mr. Bakugou, they were always so sweet to me. Even though they drove Bakugou crazy I knew he was also excited to see them as well.
Just then I heard the dorm's doors open and quickly looked over to see him adjusting his shirt as he emerged from the entrance. He looked so cute in something other than black, even though that was my favorite. Today he wore a white shirt with a light blue button-down opened over the shirt with a nice pair of black pants, he didn't ditch his white trainers though as he stood rubbing his eyes. He clearly just woke up and I giggle to myself from the sight. I spent the night with him and the memory of him growling when I was trying to get up early to get ready painted my mind.
"Please I am begging you" he would growl with his face bored into my chest. His arms were tightly wrapped around me as I tried to squeeze away. "Just stay in bed with me!!!" He would yell as I pulled away eventually. For someone who went to bed so early, he could really sleep in.
He stomped his way over to me plopping down at the picnic table Tsu and I just finished up decorating. Tsu's eyes widened at his sight, then looked over to me for help. She still wasn't used to his presence always around me, but we were getting there.
"Morning sleeping beauty..." I laugh and Tsu giggles too as he rolls his eyes with a smile.
"Yeah yeah" He laughs looking around at all the decorating, "wow everything actually looks fucking nice for once"
"Tsu was a big help actually she picked out all the colors Bakugou" Tsu looked scared as she stood frozen when Bakugou looked in her direction.
"W-well ribbit, it was really nothing I just picked spring colors.." She said nervously
"No need to be shy Tsu! It looks amazing!" He said happily and Tsu smiled as a small blush rose on her cheeks. Bakugou was so cute right now I could have attacked him right then and there. As the rest of the gang made their way outside we all waited anxiously to see the parents arrive. Within minutes we began seeing multiple couples show up. It was so interesting to see some families interact. Or in Todoroki's case, not interact.
"OCHACO!!!!" I heard a deep voice scream from the distance. Turning my attention there I saw a very embarrassed Bakugou beside Mitsuki and Mr. Bakugou flailing their hands in the air. I walked over as Bakugou rolled his eyes beside me.
"CANT YOU ALL BE NORMAL FOR ONCE!!!!" he hollered as Mitsuki pulled me in for a hug
"OH SHUT UP YOU BRAT" she gave me the biggest squeeze as I looked over at Bakugou who had his arms crossed. He was fighting a smile for a bit, but one crept up his face from the sight.
"I am so happy to see you Ochaco!" Mitsuki yelled again as I smiled at her
"I was so looking forward to seeing you all this afternoon too," I say sweetly as the two Bakugous smile genuinely at me. Thankfully no one really made mention of my parents yet. Hopefully, no one would for the remainder of the day.
We spent the whole day together playing games and interacting with the other parents. I was enjoying myself, but deep down I knew what I really wanted to happen. Bakugou smiled at me pulling me in close, "Hey remind me I have a surprise for you in about 15 minutes" I look up at him in confusion, what the heck did he mean by that. The sun was still high in the sky as the birds chirped and played around us. I waited patiently for the surprise, but couldn't wait any longer. 10 minute went by and I squeezed the back of his arm.
"OW FUCK!" He screamed as Mitsuki slapped the back of his head.
"DONT SWEAR IN FRONT OF SWEET OCHACO!" She yelled and he growled at her rubbing his arm. He turned to look at me now and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Can you tell me already!" I yell and he laughs at me which makes me pout my lips out.
"Actually your right on time, well I mean they're right on time" I stare at him confused for the longest time not really following what he was saying. I look over at Mr. Bakugou and Mitsuki as they both sat smiling at me as well.
"Turn around Ochaco!" Bakugou laughs holding my shoulders turning me around.
Just then I saw my mom and dad walking down the street towards the dorms. I felt my whole body weaken as Bakugou held me up. I turn back to him then back at my parents before taking off towards them. I ran so fast I couldn't even feel the sidewalk underneath my feet as I jumped into their arms. Feeling the familiar embrace of my parents as the tears poured from my eyes. This was the most thoughtful gift anyone has ever given me in my whole life.
Did Bakugou actually go through all this trouble to contact my parents? All this trouble just for me.
