Skylar

Ryan walked over to Alec and I slowly, Wyatt and the older man following behind. Alec inched behind me slightly.

"As if I would ever be able to protect you." I muttered to him under my breath.

"Hey. You have a 100% chance of surviving." He whispered back. "I, on the other hand, have about a -96% chance."

"Not necessarily." I kept my eyes locked with Ryan's, muttering through the side of my mouth.

"I'm pretty sure you can survive a reprimanding." He hissed back.

Soon Ryan stood before us. He towered over me, as usual, but just a few inches over Alec. Wyatt snickered at the look on Alec's face. It was mixture between terror and shock. He was now almost completely behind me.

Ryan wasn't looking at him, however. He was looking at me. He tilted his head to the side slightly. "Care to explain Skylar?" He started calmly. "I've heard you arrived here naked in, his t-shirt, while neglecting to mind link me to let me know." His eyes darted to Alec at the mention of the t-shirt, before back to me.

"We had a little situation." I replied nervously, playing with the hem of my new shirt.

"So I've also heard." He replied, taking a step forward. Alec squeaked, backing up a good two steps, and looking at the ground, his neck bared in submission. "What is it exactly? Something about sparks? Like that of a mate?"

I could here not only the hidden fury, but also the hint of jealously in his voice, but he kept himself composed for which I was thoroughly impressed. "Kind of." I said, I kept eye contact as I knew it was necessary for this to go at least in a semi good direction. "At first anyway. They're not there anymore." I answered truthfully.

"Not there anymore?" He asked, now sounding genuinely confused.

"Nope. Nada. Gone." I waved my hands around emphasizing my point. "Zip. No more sparks."

"Do you know what caused the sparks in the first place?" Ryan stepped closer, hovering more over me than acknowledging Alec.

"No. Their pack witch didn't either." I answered. "Where's Jake?"

"Lish has him." He waved his hand. "Don't change the subject. So the sparks aren't there anymore and nobody knows why they were there in the first place. Now all we should figure out is why you completely cut me off after you shifted." His eyes hardened as he looked me over. "For the first time, I may add."

I rolled my eyes at that one. "Well excuse me for wanting to just run along freely as a wolf for the first time in my life." I retorted, crossing my arms. "I understand you were probably worried but you always are and I'm always fine."

"Might I remind you that your statement is invalid." His voice turned hard, a cold fury entering his eyes. "You were kidnapped three years ago. And when I found you, you were half dead. So no, you're not always fine."

I glared at him. He always pulled that card on me. "But I'm fine now! We don't know what the hell this spark thing means and nothing else is happening so can't we just go home and figure this out?" I asked. I reached out and placed a hand on his arm. His body reflexively relaxed at my touch and he saw what I was doing.

He pulled away. "I know what you're doing, Skylar. And it won't work. I'm still mad at you."

"Fine." I said, huffing and dropping my arms. "But there's still no need to stay here. Unless we have pack business to worry about, I'm sure the Alpha will let us go."

"We will leave," Ryan conceded, though he didn't look any happier. "But not until I exchange some words with Alec here."

"Ryan..." I began, reaching out to him. "Dont, please."

He pulled out of my reach and walked around me, grabbing Alec by the arm. "Ryan!" I said, my eyes widening in fear for Alec.

Suddenly I felt a wall in my mind. "You're cutting me off?" I exclaimed.

"Doesn't feel too good does it?" He retorted.

Ouch.

Shut up Cana.

He started dragging Alec toward a nearby tent. "Don't do anything you'll regret, Ryan!" I called out to him, a little pleading in my voice.

"Oh trust me. I wouldn't regret anything." He replied. And with that, the two of them vanished into the tent.

I turned to Wyatt. "I am so sorry. But I think you just lost your brother."

The older man smiled. "Alec will be fine. Ryan just needs to assert his place as an Alpha and as a mate."

My eyebrows furrowed. "Maybe." I started chewing my lip. "But I've never seen him this angry before."

"Well you did cut him off." Wyatt said. "And the whole sparks thing with Alec probably didn't help."

I sighed and began tapping my foot out of nervousness, my fingers twitching. The older man chuckled. "Don't need to be so nervous, Skylar. Ryan knows what he's doing."

"How do you know?"

"I was a young Alpha with many after my mate once." He replied, indicating who he was.

"But Alec wasn't after me. I don't think anyway." I steered my gaze over to him. "And you don't look that old. Older than me and Ryan obviously but you still look like a strong Alpha."

He laughed. "Thank you, Skylar. But I'm almost 392."

"What?" I exclaimed.

"Werewolves age slower than humans, resulting in much longer lives." He said Wyatt laughed. "That's also going by dog years. By human years, I'm 56."

"Oh." I sighed in relief. "Holy crap you freaked me out for a second there." I paused. "So you're saying that in dog years, I'm....."

"133 years old." He finished for me.

"Oh my god." I muttered. "I'm so old!"

"Not even close, dear."

"Coming from the 392 year old." I shook my head. "I'm sorry, I didn't get your name?"

"Adrian. Adrian Winters, Alpha of the Silverton pack." He answered, holding out his hand. I grasped it and shook.

"Nice to meet you." I smiled.

Just then Alec stumbled out of the tent, a wide-eyed look on his face. Ryan followed after, looking a bit more calmed down than before. My eyebrows furrowed as I walked over, wary.

"Ryan....."

"I'm fine Skylar." He said before I could say anything. He gestured to Alec with a sour expression on his face. "And so is he. Are you ready to leave?"

I glanced back at Alec who gave me a shaky thumbs up before passing out onto the cold, hard ground. Wyatt rolled his eyes and threw Alec over his shoulder carrying him back towards that camp fire. I looked back to Ryan and nodded.

He nodded as well, breathing out through his nose before turning away from me and walking up the hill toward the edge of the tree line. I followed reluctantly.

We passed through the space of open forest in an awkward silence that cut me to the core. This was different, new to me. Unusual. He was never this angry.

Ever.

And now he suddenly was.

But why?

Things like this have happened before. What's so different about this specific time?

Because I shifted?

"Because you drive me crazy, Skylar. Not just because you shifted, but because you ignored my warnings and went into their pack territory." Ryan said from a few feet in front of me. "And walked into their camp in nothing but Alec's t-shirt, without knowing if they would've harmed you or not."

I didn't say anything as he continued ranting. He had stopped walking and so had I. We were standing by a large ravine leading into a river that trailed back to town.

"It's just your blatant trust for everyone and everything and always putting yourself in danger, throwing yourself in the front line, walking through the fire." He snarled, punching a tree. I flinched, stepping back a little. "You never have a single concern for your safety! Only for others!"

He spun around to face me. "You're always so afraid of me getting hurt or Jake or anybody else in the pack getting hurt that you don't realize how hurt we'd be if you were gone! You don't seem to realize that your sacrifice no matter what it may apply to, wouldn't help anyone!"

I watched on, speechless, as he struggled to find the words. He ran his hands through his hair, tugging on the dark locks. "God, Skylar! Why can't you just let yourself be protected? Why can't you just listen to me when I tell you not to do something? And you're right, nothing happened this time, it was just a misunderstanding, a coincidence even, but what if it hadn't been? What if they hadn't know you were my Luna and they had purposely hurt you?"

He looked up at me and all I saw was a tearful, broken little boy. My heart shattered a little bit inside. His voice turned soft, a tiny sound of pain. "What if.....what if they had killed you?"

I could feel myself tearing up. He had never expressed such feeling for me. He had always been worried, but never this. Never so torn up by one stupid girl who couldn't listen.

My body reacted completely on its own, in tune with my emotions. My arms wrapped around his waist. I buried my head in his chest. "I never want to see that again." I cried into his shirt, the sound muffled. "I never want to see that kind of pain on your face ever again. So please just lock me in the pack house, put a spell on me, just do anything you have to do to get me to listen to you! I don't know why, but I just, I-I'm not one for listening to others, especially when it comes to my own safety. But if that's what it takes to keep you from feeling this kind of pain, then please, please just help me help you."

Ryan's arms snaked their way around me, protecting me from the world, keeping me warm. He buried his face in my hair. "I don't want you to change, Skylar." He murmured to me softly. "I just want you to have more consideration for your own safety." He chuckled softly. "Heck, we both know you'll never listen to me, but you have to think of yourself at some point."

I pulled back and glanced up at him. He met my eyes. "Okay." I said. "Okay. I'll try. I'll just....I'll try."

He smiled. Ryan leaned down and kissed me. I closed my eyes, letting him envelop me in his warmth. When we pulled apart I wiped my face with the back of my hands and smeared his tears with my thumbs.

"I thought you were this bid bad ass alpha who never cried?" I snickered slightly.

"Never have I ever cried." He replied, pulling away from me and crossing his arms like a child.

"Then what's this?" I retorted, holding up my tear-streaked thumb.

He looked at it, confused. "How'd you get your thumb wet? The ravine's like ten feet off that cliff!"

I laughed. "Maybe I used my super amazing ability to fly while you were crying like a little baby."

He shook his head, grunting in annoyance. "Alphas don't cry, Skylar. You've known about werewolves for three years now, you should have realized that."

"Well I don't know what planet you're from, but on earth, there's a such thing as feelings that both people and werewolves alike, possess." I placed my hands on my hips.

He gasped. "What is this new word you have spoken to me?" He had his hand on his chest as he looked down at me in mock-surprised. "Feelings? What a horrible word!"

I laughed again. "Lord have mercy on this boy." I said, shaking my head. "Until he discovers his feelings, he must wallow in his manly manliness of two chest hairs and weight lifting three pounds everyday."

Ryan burst out laughing and I joined in soon after. He slung his arm around my shoulder. "Come on, now let's get home before you start to actually believe that I have feelings."

I rolled my eyes. "Whatever you say, Alpha."

*****

Well this was long! Didn't expect that tbh, and I wasn't planning on that emotional scene either, it just kind of happened.

Oh and you might not be seeing any other POVs besides Skylar's for a little bit until I get the rest of the story figured out.

JK JUST CHANGED MY MIND WE HAVE ANOTHER SPECIAL GUEST NEXT CHAPTER SHE WAS IN THE FIRST BOOK

Anyway hoped you enjoyed this chapter! And also, I'm reading this book called Joining A Superhero League by my best friend Jackie, or ALonelyEcho as you may know her on Wattpad. She also just recently finished her first werewolf book Rouge Luna.

Stay tuned for the next chapter of Our Overly Possessive Mates and of course the next one of this. Oh and the possibility of two more new stories ( a superhero one and shocker! A human story!)
