I have seen a lot of people compare Rey to Rapunzle and Kylo Ren/Ben Solo to Flynn Rider/ Eugene Fitzhurbert. I can definitely see the similarities, especially in their characters and I even talked about it in part 2. But after watching Tangled again I noticed something that many seem to overlook. While Rey and Rapunzle, and Kylo and Flynn have very similar characteristics, and even some similar plot lines. Rey and Flynn, and Ben and Rapunzle also have very similar plot lines and backstories.
To explain, I will fallow the plot of tangled and show how it somewhat matches the plots of Rey and Ben and the sequel trilogy, so far.
Both Rapunzle and Ben were taken from their parents at young age to be raised by an evil person (Mother Gothel / Snoke) who claimed to care about them, but really just wanted to use them for their powers.
The difference was that Snoke caused Ben to become like him, and Mother Gothel could not make Rapunzle become like her.
Both Eugene and Rey were orphans.
(This is very random, but ...) the first time you see Flynn and Rey in the movies they are repelling down into a room.
Later...
Flynn runs into a forest, where he meets Rapunzle.
Rey runs into a forest where she meets Kylo Ren.
Rapunzle knocks Flynn unconscious with a frying pan.
Kylo Ren knocks Rey unconscious.
Rapunzle then ties Flynn to a chair and waits patiently for him to wake up.
Kylo then ties Rey to a chair and waits patiently for her to wake up.
Once Flynn wakes up, Rapunzle interrogates him.
Once Rey wakes up, Kylo interrogates her.
Later...
Eugene tells Rapunzle about his past.
Rey tells Ben about her past, and the loneliness she experiences.
Rapunzle learns that Eugene grew up as an orphan.
Ben learns that Rey grew up as an orphan.
Rapunzle listened to Flynn, and excepts him for who he really is.
Ben listened to Rey, and excepts her for who she really is.
Later...
Flynn and Rapunzle begin to have a bond with each other.
Rey and Ben begin to have a bond with each other.
Later...
Flynn goes to the tower to save Rapunzle.
Rey goes to Snoke's ship to save Ben.
Mother Gothel tries to kill Eugene, but Rapunzle saves him.
Snoke tries to kill Rey, but Ben saves her.
Rapunzle had to give up Mother Gothel, who raised her to save Eugene.
Ben had to give up Snoke, to save Rey.
