"Hey lulu, do you feel relaxed?" Jonas asks as I slide into the passenger seat of Bessie.
"Oh my god that was amazing!" I say laying my head on the seat.
I glance over at Jonas who has a huge grin on his face.
"Thank you, I really needed that"
He grabs my hand and kisses my knuckles as he pulls onto the road.
"Are you ready for the next part of your surprise?" He asks me
"There's more?"
He lets out a deep chuckle.
"Yes lulu, there's more, a lot more"
"Why?" I ask
I didn't mean for it to come out as harsh as it was.
"I told you, you've been through a lot, I want you to be happy, calm, and relaxed."
Before I can reply my phone rings.
"I'm sorry it's my mom" I say as I look at the screen.
"It's fine, take it" he says, his eyes never leaving the road.
I hit the green answer button and put the phone to my ear.
"Hey momma"
"Hey sweetie! How are you?"
"I'm fine, schools been fun and I've made some friends"
"That's great honey, but how are you really?"
"Spencer told you didn't he?" I ask frustrated
"Yes sweetie. Why didn't you tell us?"
"Nothing happened momma, he was stopped before anything could happen"
"Okay, I'm sorry I brought it up"
"I know you're worried but I'm fine, Spencer is watching out for me"
"How are things with you and Jonas?"
My face heats up. I was gonna kill Spencer.
"He told you about that too?"
My mom chuckles.
"Honey he tells us everything."
"I'm gonna kill him"
"So??? What's going on?"
"Nothing momma"
"Uh huh, sure"
"Mom!"
She laughs
"I'm sorry honey, but your father and I always thought you'd end up with one of the Manchester boys. I'm glad it's Jonas"
"I can't believe you guys"
"Oh relax honey, I'm proud of you."
"Thanks momma"
"Well I have to go now sweetie, your father just got home"
"Okay momma, tell dad hi for me"
"Will do sweetie"
"Love you guys"
"Love you too Lacey"
I end the call and groan as my head falls back in the seat.
"What'd spence do now?" Jonas asks
"He freaking told my parents about the attack"
"Why does that bother you? Don't they deserve to know?"
"If something had happened yes, but nothing did."
"Lulu-"
"I don't want to talk about it Jonas"
His body tenses slightly and his jaw clenched.
"I'm sorry" I say
I didn't want him mad at me when he was just trying to help me.
"I know, it's okay. I'm sorry I said anything, it's none of my business"
I lay my head on his shoulder and his body relaxes.
"Don't get to comfortable, we're almost there"
I smile and place a kiss on his cheek.

"I'll have the Salmon, with mashed potatoes and green beans" I tell the server
"I'll take the sirloin, with fries and broccoli. And can we start with some of your chicken nachos?" Jonas says.
The server writes down the order before taking our menus and walking away.
"I'm really sorry about earlier" I tell him in a low voice.
He reaches across the table and grabs my hand.
"It's fine lulu" he says with a smile
"Where did you go today?" I ask, letting my curiosity get the better of me.
"I had an appointment" he says
"With?" I press
"Lacey, what's the big deal?" He asks getting irritated
"I'm just trying to talk"
"Well let's talk about something else"
I stay silent after his outburst. I place my hands in my lap twirling my thumbs and gaze at my hands.
I hear Jonas let out a deep breath.
"My mom"
I shoot my head up and look at him
"What?"
"I was on the phone with my mom"
"Is everything okay?"
His parents were always like my second set of parents, we grew up together, they were family.
"No lulu, nothing is okay"
"What's happened?"
He hesitates, I know he doesn't want to tell me.
"Jonas, hey, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to"
He shakes his head.
"No I do, I want to tell you, I need to tell you. But it's just hard to talk about"
I grab his hand and lace our fingers together
"I'll be here whenever you ready. I'll always be there to listen Jonas."
Just as he opens his mouth to speak the waitress comes back with our nachos.
"Can I get you some more root beer ma'am?"
"Uh yes please"
She nods her head and leaves the table, before quickly returning with another glass of root beer.
Jonas starts eating the nachos as I just stare at him, I was hoping he would continue where he left off. But he didn't.
"Oh my mom says hi by the way, I forgot to tell you in the car"
Jonas flashes me a forced smile before continuing to eat his nachos. Suddenly his phone pings with a text. He pulls it out of his pocket and looks at the screen.
His face morphs into one of sadness, and fear. His eyebrows furrow and his lips quiver.
"Uh I'll be right back" he says, his voice cracking.
Without allowing me to react, he stands up and makes his way outside the restaurant. I watch as he holds the phone up to his ear and starts talking. He runs his hands through his hair, aggravated.
I wanted him to tell me so I could be there for him, comfort him like he always has me. But he wouldn't tell me. I start munching on the nachos, glancing up at him every once in a while, making sure he was still there. I knew he wouldn't just leave me here, he wasn't like that. I glance up at him, he wasn't on the phone anymore, instead he was running his hands down his face, he was stressed about something.
Eventually he comes back and sits down. He doesn't say anything just starts eating again. I knew he didn't want to talk about it so I didn't press it, he'd tell me when he was ready. I stand up and move to sit next to him in his side of the booth. He puts a chip up to my mouth and I take a bite. While chewing I grab his hand, interlocking our fingers and lay my head on his shoulder.
His body slacks and he lets out a breath.
"It's my dad" he says in a whisper so quiet I almost didn't hear him.
"What?"
"He's sick lulu. Has been for awhile. My appointment earlier was with the doctor and my mom, he had to run tests on him to see why he wasn't getting better. Just now that was my mom on the phone, she was calling me to update me on his progress. His condition is worse and there's nothing that they can do to help him"
He takes another deep breath causing his body to tremble. I put my free hand on his arm and rub it slightly, showing him comfort.
"He's dying lulu"
