Desperate to save her drowning marriage, Alyson Taylor gets her attention grasped by her husband Evan's charming, handsome, father Joseph Taylor. A free-spirited Joseph comes into town when he finds out that his father has passed away and has left him a successful wine company, a butt load of cash and more estates than a non-materialistic Joseph knows what to do with.
The death of his father puts life into perspective for Joseph who realizes he needs to try and meld the estranged relationship he has with Evan. Unfortunately, Evan wants nothing to do with him.
Stepping in for her husband, Alyson does her best to make Joseph feel welcomed and apart of the family despite Evan wanting to do away with him.
A friendship ensues between Joseph and Alyson when she starts helping him with his family business and finances. As her relationship with Evan worsens, the more time she spends around Joseph, the more their friendship starts turning into something more.
All while, Alyson's twin sister, Mia is struggling to ease the fears of her daughters who are scared that their abusive father will eventually find them and change their life for the worse again. Between always worrying about Alyson and her kids, Mia can't seem to find a moment of peace.
Her ex and very close friend Rick intervenes by request of the kids to watch out for them and make sure they're safe. Being the nice guy that he is, Rick steps up to the plate looking out for Mia and kids which causes friction in his own marriage.
Mia begs and pressures him to leave her alone but he doesn't listen. It isn't until secrets, lies, and betrayal surfaces in Rick's marriage that Mia realizes it's her turn to be a friend to him.
