Adrien felt ruined and put together again. His hands shook as he grasped his letter and his tears fully blurred his vision. His breaths came out uneven and as he stood numbly rooted in his spot. He realized he was hyperventilating.
It hurt. God, it hurt. It hurt so much.
His chest felt like it was on fire. The awful burn moved through lungs and he was gasping. He couldn't breathe. Air wasn't registering no matter how much he sucked in.
Adrien crumbled to the floor because no one was there to put him back together. His legs were shaking—no, his whole body was shaking. It didn't matter, he couldn't hold himself up. He was also shivering for some reason.
Adrien wrapped his arms around himself leaving the letter that broke his heart on the floor. His back was against his bed as he tried to catch his breath. Plagg moved from the pillows to the foot of the bed. The black cat tried to soothe him by rubbing his head on Adrien's, by purring near his ear. Anything to get him to calm down. He sort of laughed, sort of sobbed, at his cat's actions.
Reality was setting in. Marinette was gone. She was never coming back. Adrien had to realize that Marinette was dead and he wasn't. He had to move on and live exactly as she said.
He started smiling despite the heartbreak he felt. Adrien knew he would be okay. Maybe it wouldn't happen today but there was always tomorrow.
There would always be a tomorrow.
