Vikk's P.O.V.
I tucked my tail underneath me, curling up in the corner of the box, pushing myself underneath the blanket they had given me. I mewled pathetically, I was cold and tired, barely able to keep my eyes open anymore and sometimes, I wanted to close my eyes and never wake up.
I let out another high pitched mewl as the box opened and a hand came in, picking me up and gently began examining me. I mewled and squirmed, wanting them to put me down. They were huge compared to me, I could see their face in front of me and although I had had interactions with humans as a cat before, not many had ever picked me up.
"Alright this one's a wee boy, about 3 months old. He's not great with humans, we think he was probably born to stray and he either got lost or is the only survivor Been here for a few days, just got his blood results back."
I was handed off to someone else who gently began petting my back, setting me down on the table in front of them. I wandered around for a few seconds before they gently pinched the scruff of my neck, sticking a needle into me and pushing some sort of liquid inside of me.
I yowled and tried to scratch the person holding the needle, but they simply held me up to their chest, comforting me.
"He'll be okay, keep him warm and give him some food and water. He should be into a new home pretty quickly, kittens are normally the first to go. He'll be out fast, now that we know his blood tests are negative so just put him on the adoption floor tonight."
The person gently cradled me in their arms and carried me as they walked, out onto a new floor that I had never been on. I was placed into a new box, with a little nest of blankets in a cat bed, a scratching post and with a glass front for observation.
"Hang on little buddy, you'll be out soon." They gently clipped a collar around my neck, the one that I had been dragging along the ground when I had been found. The name on the collar read Vikk.
------------------------------------------
I rolled over, thinking about everything. I wasn't exactly a kitten, I had a human form that I was normally in, at least until my parents kicked me out of the house. Since then I had stayed in my kitten form, which never changed as I didn't age as a cat, and had gotten caught and placed in an animal shelter.
I might have only been 16 but my parents thought I could go on my own, especially after they found out that I could shapeshift. I hated them for it and ran far away, never leaving my kitten form because I didn't want to be in human form. I much preferred it as a kitten.
People were wandering past my little box, some of the younger children stopping to look at me every now and again. I wandered around, climbed the scratching post, fought with the blankets, that sort of thing until I noticed one boy had stopped and was staring at me.
I crawled off the cat bed and wandering close to him, looking up and into his eyes. He was about my eyes in human years, maybe 16 years old and he was very beautiful, tall with bright blonde hair and sky blue eyes.
He placed his hand up against the glass and I raised my paw, hitting the glass where his palm was resting and mewled at him. I liked him, he seemed nice and he seemed like someone who could understand me. He called to someone over his shoulder.
"Mum!! I think I've found the one I want." I tapped my paw on his finger and he smiled, lighting up. A worker came up behind him.
"Is that the one you like?"
"Yeah! Does he have a name?" She nodded, scratching the glass in front of my face. I mewled and pushed myself up on my hind paws, scrabbling at the glass.
"He liked you. And yeah he does, he was found was a collar that had the name Vikk on it. We don't know if it was his collar but that's his name now." He lit up.
"Vikk. That's a nice name."
"It is. What's yours?"
"Lachlan." He said, smiling as the lady opened the glass, picked me up and placed me in his arms. "And I think I've found the cat I want."
He scratched my head, smiling when I started purring, picking my paws along his arm.
"I think he's found the one he wants too. He liked you." I purred happily.
I liked him.
--------------------------------------------
I quickly became used to life at Lachlan's house. He lived in a large, multi storied house with his parents as he was an only sibling, and he loved me dearly, rarely letting me out of his sight when he was home from school or sports.
I loved the weekends the most because we could spend so much time together, he played with me all the time, let me curl up on his lap when he was doing homework, fed me little bits of food when I sat by the table, begging him.
Cat food wasn't bad, because my taste buds had changed from my human taste buds it actually tasted okay and when he varied what meals I ate it was very nice.
It only took a month of so for him to noticed that I wasn't growing. He took me back to the vet and the vet said that I might have some form of dwarfism or something and that I might have been older than they originally thought. He said there was nothing that could do because I was in perfect health and maybe I would remain small for the rest of my life.
I knew that one day I would have to tell him about me, me as in the human side of me, and over a period of months I started to gather the courage to tell him.
One day during his school holidays when both of his parents were at work I wandered from his bedroom, knowing he would follow me if I mewled at him, and he did. I wandered down the stairs until I nudged at the door, telling him I wanted to go outside. I wanted to be in a place that I could escape if necessary, in case he took it badly.
Slowly, painfully, I began my shift back into my human form. It was sore and painful because of how long I had spent in kitten form and I saw the look of shock and almost fear on his face.
When I was back as a human I almost completely collapsed, exhausted and barely able to move because of how little time I had spent as human. Lachlan crouched down beside me and moved his head into his lap, concerned.
"What- how???" He asked, practically pleading with me for answers. "How.. but you were a cat... and now... human? What?"
"I'm a shapeshifter." I said breathily, as the only way of explanation. I could barely move and I didn't have the strength to talk, and he realised that.
"Shit! Are you okay? You aren't- you aren't dying are you?" I shook my head, my eyes flickering closed as exhaustion completely took over me. "Are you sure you're okay? You're-"
I cut him off with a wave of my hand.
"Tired." I mumbled. "Need sleep."
He sighed gently and then scooped me up into his arms, carrying me inside.
"Sleep then. Explain everything when you're stronger."
I closed my eyes, drifting off to sleep peacefully for the first time in quite a while.
-------------------------------------------
"Vikk?" I looked up from where I was unloading boxes, finally moving in a new house with Lachlan. He was moving out of his parents house for the first time and I was going with him, even though his parents still thought he was taking that little dark brown kitten, not an entire human.
"Yeah?" I said, sitting back on my heels.
"Hey kitten." He mumbled, crouching down beside me and wrapping his arms around me. "Sorry. It's just been a long day."
"I know Lachy." I stood up and took his hand, leading him into our new bedroom. It was the first room we had properly set up, stacking most of the boxes in the corner and making the bed, ready for sleeping in that night.
We both collapsed onto it and I transformed back into a kitten, crawling up onto his chest and rested on it. He started patting me gently and I began to purr, pushing myself closer to his hand.
It had been like that for quite a while, just the two of us most of the time. Lachlan's parents were constantly working in other parts of the world so as he finished high school and entered a local college he rarely saw either of them.
This was an advantage for me because it gave me more time to spend in my human form and for Lachlan to spend more time talking to me and teaching me. Because I hadn't been able to go to school since I was 16 Lachlan taught me what he had learned in those years I had missed, giving us more time to spend together.
He confessed his feelings for me about a year after I revealed my human form, when we were both 17, and I reciprocated those feelings. I loved him too and our friendship quickly became something more, me often sleeping with him in his bed when I was a human.
We had planned on moving out for a while, since we were both 18 I think and a year on it was finally happened. We were in a single bedroom apartment in an okay part of town, as some of the rent was paid for by his parents, and I already loved it, despite it only being the first day there.
"Night little kitten. Love you." He whispered, kissing my forehead.
I simply purred, knowing he would get the message. I love you too.
