Chapter 21

Marissa’s POV

It was finally Friday and I had a date with Alex tonight! I think this might sadly be the highlight of my week. He was great when I first met him and I have a feeling that tonight is going to be great. I did my morning routine, shower, brush my teeth, and throw on some clothes. I didn’t really care what people thought about me so I didn’t really dress to impress. I had on a simple pair of tight sweat pants and a long sleeve shirt.

Snow had started to fall now, there was a light brush of the white fluff outside, it was still coming down and I hope there’s a lot. I love the snow, it’s beautiful and after all winter is my favourite season. I walked down the stairs in a happy mood. This morning was a little different from the rest, usually by the time I'm down here most of the pack had already left but there was about ten people I didn’t really talk about sitting in the kitchen.

I saw no sign of Derek and Zane though, usually they ask me if I wanted a ride or they let me know when they’re leaving. That’s kind of weird, well I guess I'm walking then. But after training session with john a few nights ago I wanted to sit on the couch all day. he had worked all my muscles to the bone, I was so sore when I woke up this morning. But I can already see the improvement in my fighting.

“Hey Marissa Derek told and ran outside. The air was frosted and cold, every time I breathed out I could see my breath frosting but I loved it. it only made my smile bigger to know that winter was here. Just as I was about to get in the me to tell you that he had to leave so he took a ride with Zane and left you the keys” some random guy said then threw a pair of keys at me. “Ok thanks” I replied. Well that was nice of him to consider me. I grabbed a granola bar from the cupboards and walked out the door. I don’t know what they’re all still here for but I was close to being late if I didn’t get going.

I grabbed my little black jacked car I saw two people that made me freeze in motion. Running towards me was Kyle and Sean. A full out grin broke out on my face as I rant towards both of them.

“I missed you guys so much” I said as I was pulled into a hug by the two boys. “We missed you too Marissa, you don’t know how long we’ve been wanting to come back. I thought you were going to be mad that we up and left without telling us” Sean asked confused. I simply shook my head with laughter.

“I know the alpha and I don’t blame you guys. I'm just so glad that your back, please tell me your coming to school today?” I pleaded. “Well we just got back an we need to unpack and stuff, and you see we have to do some uh other stuff” Kyle went on and on trying to get an excuse not to go to school which only made me laugh. I knew they would go if I asked them anyway.

“Get in the car so we can go now please” they smiled but did as they were told. I climbed in the car and watched the snow, thinking about all the time that has passed.

It had been two months since Zane had rejected me and since we went to the club. It has been a couple weeks since Alex had asked me out and since we finally decided to make it happen. And it’s been a month or so since me and Derek have started getting along. It the last two months my life has changed drastically and I couldn’t help but smile.

I had a reason to wake up and smile every day because I had friends and people who cared about me. my mom was now back for four days, well until my birthday. I still don’t know what I want to do for that, I don’t want a big party because I think those are useless. I want to spend time with the people I care about not have some huge party where people drink and dance, that’s not really my scene or my idea of a fun birthday.

I actually haven’t talked to Zane in three days, I’ve been avoiding him ever since he blew me off that day. he’s tried to talk to me but when I asked him to tell me the reason he could never tell me exactly why all he would say was that he had pack business to take care of and it was confidential. I didn’t buy his shitty excuse though, because he was with her and she isn’t even in our pack, I would have noticed by now if she was.

By the time we reached the school I didn’t even notice, I was too wrapped up in thinking about my life. I walked out of the car to be greeted with the cool winter air and  the chill breeze of the wind. “the bells going to ring any minute now so I guess I’ll see you guys at lunch?” I said grabbing my books and fumbling to get everything I needed.

“Yea sounds good, we have a lot of catching up too do” the way Kyle said that I knew he meant more than just about school and his trip. I'm glad I had him to talk too about Zane and all those problems, because no one but him knows about it and I would have probably exploded by now if I had to keep it all in all the time. I'm dying to get some sort of opinion on this. Zane is confusing the heck out of me with him asking the hang out then ditching me then acting sorry then acting like he couldn’t care less.

I walked into the school and to my first class which I had with Zane. I noticed him surrounded by his friends, talking and laughing. I tore my eyes away from them and took a seat in my usual spot. I stared at the front of the classroom waiting for the teacher to come in. I bet Zane didn’t even notice I walked in, he probably didn’t care about me at all. I was a fool to believe any of it.

Zane’s POV

I could smell her as soon as she walked in the room, but I didn’t show her any attention. I continued to pretend to have fun with these people that I call my friends, even when half of them will go and talk shit about me behind me back next period.

I only have a couple real friends and there is only a certain amount of people that I care about and one of those people were sitting in this classroom, in her usual seat waiting for class to begin. I want to explain so bad to her about why I left her to go with Sarah but I couldn’t. it’s pack business and it’s important.

I wanted her to just forget about that already so we can be friends. I snuck a glance over in her direction to see her texting away on her phone. What bothered me though was the smile on her face, who could she be talking to that made her smile like that without even being around?

I don’t know why but I felt jealous at the thought of her talking to some other guy. I groaned at the thought of her going out with Alex tonight. they’ve been putting off for like two weeks now and I was hoping they would simply forget about it, but I'm not that lucky. Tonight I have too see her leave with another guy.

I turned away from her as the teacher walked in, but out of the corner of my eye I saw that she glanced at the teacher then went back to her phone like it was more important.

“OK class get in pair, you can choose your partners but then you will be paired up with another group to act out a scene” the teacher bellowed. I looked to my right seeing Claire, that was good enough. We both nodded, knowing that we would be partners.

I looked over at Marissa to see she had paired up with some red head girl, the girl had an eyebrow piercing and a nose piercing. She wore all black and looked anti-social. I just gave her a weird looked before turning back towards Claire.

“Ok I'm going to give each group a number which will go into this hat. I will pick out two numbers at a time and those two groups will be partners ok?” so basically she let us get into groups of two then she would pair us into groups of four? What was the point of that?

Oh so we could at least have someone we wanted…. I see her reasoning now. she gave me and Claire a number seven and then put it in her little hat. This was wasting a lot of time, not that I was complaining.

“Group three and group six, group eight and group one, group two and group nine, group seven and group ten” I looked around too see who ten was and i saw the red head start walking over too us. oh no, she’s partners with Marissa. I silently prayed in my mind that I was wrong and I was not partners with the red head and Marissa.

Ever since that day me and Marissa haven’t talked at all, well she hasn’t responded to anything I said anyway.  I'm not sure if I should look at this as something bad or good. I saw Marissa go up to the teacher and get a piece of paper with our skit that we had to act out.

She then brought it back and threw it on the table. It said we were supposed to make up a story of love and betrayal. “I have an idea. how about two people are so madly in love then the guy goes and cheats on the girl, breaking her heart in the process. In the end he regrets everything he’s done and wants her back but she’s already moved on” I noticed how Marissa looked directly into my eyes as she said it.

I scoffed, that was nothing like us. “Why Is it always the guy who cheats?” I shot back. “Because they are always the ones letting the girls down” this was no longer about the play and I could see that. “maybe they don’t always mean to let them down. Maybe the guy is just trying to do what's right” I seethed out,

“Well the guy is wrong, there is no reason for breaking a girl to pieces” her voice held anger in it, it was all finally coming out. All the things she was feeling.

“There is a reason for everything, you don’t always get what you want” my voice leaked anger, she just doesn’t get it does she?

“Whoa guys it’s just a story calm down” the little red head piped up. Marisa took a deep breath and let it out. She looked away from me and down at the desk instead. I don’t see why we always fight. My anger vanished as soon as it appeared though.  I just wanted to be done with this all and be able to talk to her.

“Whatever” she mumbled while still looking down at the desk. It frustrated me how strong willed she was, she would never just listen to someone and believe them.  she should be able to trust me, I’m her mate and even if I'm not able to fully be with her she can always count on me when she needs me.

I simply sighed, I didn’t want to fight with her. I looked away and let Claire and the little red head write the skit. I would do my part in acting it out when it’s all done. The bell rang a few minutes later and I couldn’t help but be relived. Marissa shot out of her seat and walked out of the classroom before anyone else had even made a move to get up.

I smiled at how typical that was of her, no matter how mad she gets she doesn’t storm out of class. She waits for it to finish like the good girl she is. That’s the way I know her and it’s the way I like her. I got my stuff and walked out of class, it was going to be one long day.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I saw Marissa at lunch, she was sitting with Kyle and Sean. Ever since Kyle stood up for her that day he’s been more of a friend to her than me. he didn’t even tell me when he was coming back nor did he even say hi. I was his friend first and this is the first time I’ve seen him since he left.

It kind of hurt too lose your friend to a girl, especially one that I didn’t have the best relationship with. I decided to make  a bold move, I picked up my trey of food and walked over  to where Marissa Kyle and Sean were sitting.

“Hey” I said happily while pretending I didn’t notice how they all stopped talking. “Uh what brings you here?” Marissa asked with curiosity. Her voice didn’t hold one shred of anger or anything negative, simply curiosity.

“Well I haven’t seen Kyle for a while so I decided to come and sit with you guys” I said. I looked into Marissa’s warm brown eyes. they stared back at me with longing and sadness. She never let her true emotions surface, she was to strong to let anyone in. But I could see through it, I can see all the pain and hurt she has bubbled up in there and one day it’s all going to come out.

“Um ok” she muttered then went back to eating her food. It looked like my presence wasn’t bothering her at all, but I could see the way she slightly hunched over and busied herself with something else that I was making her a little un comfortable. I knew her better than people think I do. I know her because I care about her. if only she could see that.
