Next Day
Y/N's POV
I wake up and roll off my bed, making sure my feet hit the ground so I don't fall. I get up and walk into the bathroom. I look into the mirror and just stare at the horrifying reflection.
My face is pale as snow, my hair looks almost black when it should be about twenty times lighter, I have big black bags under my eyes, and my long hair is a ratted mess. I pick up a chunk of my hair and try to imagine myself with shorter hair. Maybe I should do that! Maybe if I change everything about the way I am—not personality wise—I might become happy. If I cut my hair, maybe even color it, wear more colorful clothing, and wear makeup to cover up my scars, cuts, and pale face, it might effect me in a good way.
I walk out of my bedroom and look for some clothes to wear. I found some light,
washed-out, blue, ripped skinny jeans, light grey vans, and a maroon hoodie. I put the outfit on and start to brush my hair. Once it's brushed, I start to pull it back into a long French braid. My hair is so long that the end of the braid reaches about to my waist line.
I walk back into the bathroom and start brushing my teeth. Once I finish brushing my teeth, I look at the clock—9:34–then walk down stairs.
I look around and see Dad sitting on a barstool eating a bowl of grapes. I go and sit next to him and try to start a conversation.
"Can I-Can I cut and color my hair?" I ask bluntly.
Dad practically choked on a grape and snorted, which almost caused me to laugh.
"Uh I don't know, why do you want to do that?" He asks.
"I don't really know. I just want too." I reply.
"Um okay, well how about you ask Pepper and see what she thinks," Dad suggests.
"Okay, where is she?" I ask.
"Where's who?" Pepper says as she walks into the kitchen.
"You actually," Dad says, "Y/N here would like to cut and color her hair, does that sound okay to you?"
"Yes of course! New school, new life, new style, it sounds perfect!" Pepper exclaims with a clap, "Let's go get it all done today!"
"Okay, what time are we gonna leave?" I ask.
"The salon I go to opened about seventeen minutes ago, so we can leave in a few minutes if that's alright with you," Pepper said.
"Sounds good to me," I say, my head perking up as I say it.
"Let me just go put my shoes on and grab the car keys then we'll get going," She says as she starts to walk towards the shoe rack by the front door.
"Okay," I say, "I'm gonna go grab my phone I'll be right back."
I hear a few 'okay's as I walk away and jog up stairs. Once I reach my room I walk in and grab my phone and my ear buds.
As I walk back down stairs I see that I have a text message from Peter.
Peter: Good Morning😁
Morning😊
"You ready?" Pepper asks.
"Yep lets go."
Time Skip
As we walk in a little bell rings, notifying the middle aged female at the counter that we entered.
"Hello," the woman says, "how can we help you two lovely ladies today?"
"My daughter here would like to get her hair cut and colored," Pepper says as she wraps her right arm around my shoulder while her left holds her purse.
I get this feeling in my chest as Pepper says the words "My Daughter", I feel my heart warm up and I feel almost ten times better. My birth mom would never say that I was her daughter. She always said I was a niece or a cousin.
"Okay, follow me please," the woman says as she leads us to the salon chair in the far right corner.
"What color are you thinking for your hair?" Pepper asks as we follow the woman to the chair.
"I don't really know yet, am I allowed to do any color?" I ask.
"Vibrant colors are okay as long as it isn't your whole head, just your tips," Pepper says as we teach the chair.
I sit down and the woman says that there will be a woman to help us in a few minutes.
"Okay well I'm thinking lighter hair so something like a brown base with blonde highlights and strips," I say.
"Okay that sounds good."
After a few minutes of sitting in the chair, a young looking girl with bright pink hair tied into a top-notch bun, walks up to us and introduces herself.
"Hello! I'm Ally Mercado, I'll be your hairstylist today!" The hairstylist exclaimed with a huge smile.
"So what are we thinking? I heard that's you want a cut and color, so I need to know length and color," Ally asks.
"Um we'll hold on let me show you how long my hair really is," I say as I start to undo my braids.
Once my braids are out, I run my hand through my hair which now reaches about to the back of my knee.
(Visual)
"Wow...that-that's a lot of hair," Ally says.
"Yeah, uh so I'm thinking about half of all of it off and like a brown base with lots of blonde streaks and highlights," I say.
"Okay sounds great, first we'll start with the hair cutting,"
Time Skip
"All done," Ally says as she turns the blow drier off. "Here's the final look."
As Ally turns the chair around to face the mirror behind it, I almost die from shock.
(Visual)
I actually look less pale with this hair color. I might ask Pepper if we can go make up shopping or go to a tanning bed or spray tan.
"Oh my God I love it!" I exclaim.
"Great!" Ally shouts while clapping her hands.
"It's beautiful, thank you very much, Ally," Pepper says with a smile.
In car
"Pepper?" I ask.
"Yes?" She replies.
"Um, can we go makeup shopping too?" I ask shyly.
"Of course we can!" Pepper said, as usual, with a smile. "Let me tell Tony then we'll go."
I mumbled a quick 'okay' then took my phone out. I saw that I had two texts. One from Peter and one from an unknown number.
Peter: Isn't tomorrow your
first day of school?
Yeah
~
Unknown: you better watch
who you're seen with, or might
end up just as pathetic as them.
Who is this?
~
"Okay, you ready?" Pepper asks.
"Yep," I say and look up from my phone.
