Carl's pov
We walked for what felt like forever. Daryl was infront of me with his crossbow raised towards the trees. I had my gun pointed on the opposite side of the Forrest. This was really weird. He never takes me out hunting. He never takes anyone unless it's kayla. I was brought out of my thoughts when he stopped and lowered his bow. I hesitated but lowered my gun and looked at him confused. He looked at me and then ran a hand through his hair,
"Need ta talk to ya"
"Bout what?" I asked.
"Taylor" he said.
I froze and immediately said,"it's noth..." I started to say but he cut me off,
"She ran away from ya in tears, ya wanna tell me it was nothing?" He said walking closer to me.
I avoided eye contact and just starred at the ground.
"Now don't go given me that shit. Tell me what happened" he said.
I looked at him and gave him a disgusted stare,"why do you care? It doesn't matter to you"
He sighed,"yer family."
I remained silent and felt bad for snapping at him. I sighed and said,"I kissed her"
I looked immediately back to the ground as he stayed silent. It was a couple minutes till he replied,
"How'd it feel?"
My head snapped up quickly at him. I gave him a confused look and he just arched his eyebrow.
"What?" I asked.
"Da kiss? Was yer first one right?" He asked.
I hesitantly nodded and he asked,"so how did it feel?"
I thought about it. In all honesty it made me feel like I was on cloud 9. I felt so much fireworks in my stomach I thought I was gonna be sick. It made me feel like we weren't in a walker infested world. Like we were the only two in the world and safe. I couldn't tell daryl that. He grunted and I looked at him,
"It was good"
"More than good. I see it in yer eyes" he said.
I just sighed and didnt say anything.
"If it was good why the hell ya actin like that to er" he asked.
"Can't focus on that stuff anymore. Makes you weak. Caring gets you killed" I grunted.
"Don't make ya weak. Ya care about her sisters? Ya dad? The twins?" He asked.
"That's different, that's family" I said.
"Ain't different." He said.
"Did kayla put you up to this?" I asked.
"Nah, I just know what yer doin. The same thing I did to kayla In the beginnin. Thought it would be safer fer her if I stayed away. Thought she was too good enough fer me. I was wrong and I hurt er more than I should've. Don't make the same mistake I did at first. Can't do things without people anymore." He said.
I starred back down at the ground realizing he was right.i sighed and felt a hand squeeze my shoulder. I looked back up at him and he said,
"Tell er before it's too late"
I nodded and he let go of my shoulder and we headed back to camp. I had about a million things on my mind and the nervous feeling in my stomach returned. Daryl gave me one last glance when I watched as the twins ran to him with kayla in tow. He bent down to their height and kissed their foreheads and then stood back up taking kayla in his arms and kissing her. In that moment I realized how truly right daryl was, ya can't do things without people anymore.
Kayla's pov
I had been watching the kids playing in the dirt all day. I hadn't seem daryl since earlier. Normally it would worry me, but you get use to it having him as a husband.
"Daddy!" Elaina smiled as both her and Connor ran towards their father.
I followed seeing daryl come out of the woods with Carl? What was that about? Daryl bent down and kissed both kids on the head as I watched Carl. I smiled at him and he smiled back. Wait? A smile? What happened? Daryl stood up from the kids and took me in his arms. I smiled into his warm chest as he held me tightly against him. When he pulled away I whispered,
"Thank you"
He looked at me confused,"fer what?"
I smiled,"for whatever you just did...with Carl"
He pulled away and rested an arm around my shoulder,"didn't do nothin...he just realized it on his own"
I smiled and he sighed,"hey?"
"Yea?" I asked.
"Promise me you'll always be ere. Ya won't leave me." He said.
I looked at him weird,"daryl?"
"Just promise me" he said.
"I promise daryl. I'm not goin anywhere" I said.
