Road Trip

Chapter 8; Road Trip

A/N: I know the songs are all by Sabrina Carpenter, but I figured since Paisley's character is played by Sabrina Carpenter, Paisley might as well have made those songs up on her own.
ALL CREDIT GOES TO SABRINA CARPENTER FOR THESE SONGS, don't come at me xo (it's just for the book!!)

PAISLEY'S POV

I'm excited. I'm so excited, I couldn't stop thinking of how much fun we'll have. I've never really been anywhere huge, other than L.A. I didn't go out much when I was at home and going to Vegas made me extremely nervous and happy.

I kept my eyes on the road and the music drowned out and my thoughts poured in. Corey was playing the radio, I wasn't sure of the name but it was a good song. I rest my head on the cold window, watching the cars zoom by us.

My eyes traveled over to the bag I had in front of me and I reached over and grabbed it, pulling out my song book and my pen that came along with it. I had suddenly gotten some inspiration for writing a new song. I had at least six songs in the book, I've never actually told anyone about these songs.

I lean forward slightly and start to scribble down some lyrics, pushing back a strand of hair. A smile grew to my face when I started to hum out a random tune, I keep my eyes wide open. Bless this ground, unbroken.

"Whatcha doing?" Colby broke away from my thoughts, I turned to him and stopped writing.

"Scribbling down some lyrics that I thought of." I told him honestly, glancing down at my book. "This is my songbook, I guess."

"I shouldn't be surprised, but you write songs?" Colby asked, raising an eyebrow. "You are so like Aaron it's starting to get creepy,"

I let out a laugh, pushing some more hair back that had fallen out of place. "Yeah, I write songs. I only have a few though, so..."

"Can I hear one?" Colby asked. "Corey, did you know she writes songs?"

"No," Corey said honestly, turning down the music. "Can we hear, Pais? I'm actually interested in what you've got."

"You should do a collab with Aaron," Devyn suggested, flashing me a grin.

"Yeah," I agree, nodding to both. "Okay, um... here's a finished one. It's still kind of, eh, but... yeah," I paused taking a deep breath.

"Somewhere in the world there,
is a father and a mother
And the father is a son, who has a mother
the mother has a daughter who gets married to the brother of a mother, and they all just tryna multiply with one another.
Cause that's just the way of the world,
it never ends till the end, then you start again, that's just the way of the world, that's just the way of the world
Somewhere in the world, they think they're working for themselves
They get up every day to go to work for someone else
And somebody works for them and, so, they think they got it made
But they're all just working to get paid the very same..."

I had trailed off, not sure whether they wanted to hear the rest of the song. I shy off, holding the book closer to me. This song was called Thumbs, it was the year that I couldn't stop twiddling with my thumbs with anxiety, the year that Aaron and Corey had left and I had no one.

"Why'd you stop?" Devyn asked quietly. "That's so catchy,"

"I didn't... I just... I don't know," I admit, frowning. "There are other verses' to that song, I just didn't know if you want me to continue."

"You're voice is amazing!" Colby bursts out, his eyes widening. "You're going to become a star with that voice, Paisley,"

"I want a copy," Corey grinned at me. "Because you are an amazing singer, you're so talented, Pais. How the hell did you come up with that?"

"It took me only a few hours to come up with it if I'm honest." I shrug, once I made one song I couldn't stop. "This is the oldest song I've written, it was my first. It was the year that Corey and Aaron had left."

"Oh," Corey said gently. "Well, we're here now, Pais. That's all it matters, I guess."

"Continue, please," Devyn smiled at me. "Or, at least sing another one of your songs. I think I might start a fan club for you, Pais."

I grin. "President of my fan club?" I joke.

"No, Colby will be," Devyn smirked, I rolled my eyes lightly.

"Okay, um, be in mind that I've never actually sung these songs to anyone before, so I might be a bit nervous. Or shaky, a matter of fact-"

"You weren't shaky on the first one," Colby pinned out. "You seemed so confident and passionate about it. You could hear that in your voice."

"He's right, you know," Devyn quickly said.

"Wait, before you sing, someone call one of the others to ask where we'll go for lunch, we can't leave on an empty stomach." Corey buts in.

"I'll call Aaron," I tell Corey, getting out my phone and pressed Aaron's contact number. I had only eight numbers in my phone. Sad, I know. But before I moved here, I only had three numbers, Corey, Aaron's, Mum', and Dad's..

He answered in two seconds. "Hey, Pais, what's up?"

"We just wanted to know where we're going for lunch, Corey said we can't leave on an empty stomach." I tell him.

"Um, taco bell?" Aaron suggested.

"Taco bell?" I repeated to everyone. They all seemed to agree. "Everyone agrees on this end, what about your end?"

"Same," Aaron said.

"Okay, we're going to the nearest Taco Bell which is like... ten minutes away," I informed him, smiling at Colby who had placed up his fingers.

"Sweet, see you then, love you,"

"Love you too," I say back, before hanging up on him. "Taco Bell it is." I stayed quiet.

"Sing another song!" Corey pleads. "Please?"

"Okay, fine." I flipped through my pages, looking at them carefully.
"Here I am again, the same old situation
Why does the guy thing have to be so complicated
I should've played it cool, instead, I made a fool
Oh, the things I do...
'Cause I'm young and I'm dumb
I do stupid things when it comes to love
And even if I always end up crying
Well, you can't blame a girl for trying, oh oh
No, you can't blame a girl for trying,
oh I should've shut my mouth,
I could've kept it quiet might have freaked him out 'cause I was so excited but I just couldn't wait, I took a leap of faith
Oh, the things I say...
'Cause I'm young and I'm dumb,
I do stupid things when it comes to love
and even if I always end up crying
Well, you can't blame a girl for trying, oh oh...
No, you can't blame a girl for trying, oh no no
and I think sometimes I tend to be my own worst enemy a
nd maybe someday
I'm gonna catch a shooting star falling out of the blue what I do
and just as I'm giving up, my heart is palpitating
Here comes another one and it's so intoxicating
Being where I've been I know that in the end
I'll do it all again
'Cause I'm young and I'm dumb
I do stupid things when it comes to love
And even if I always end up crying
Well, love will find me, there ain't no denying
That you can't blame a girl for trying, oh-oh
No, you can't blame a girl for trying, hm oh." I heard clapping, making me smile and I realised I actually loved singing to the people I care deeply about.
