Kat got there in no time, it not being long before the girls showed up.
They grabbed their pizza, making their way to a nearby park where immediately Zendaya went right to it.
"So what is going on?"
"I've been baking- like a lot. So far I've made flan, tres leches cake, cookies, brownies..."
"Wait. Why are you baking so much?" Laura asked between bites of the pizza.
"Tom may have... he may have said he loves me- or thinks he loves me, at least."
The girl's mouths hung open at the revelation, neither of them sure what to say.
It was finally Zendaya who spoke up, "What did you say back?"
"I... I hung up."
"You what?!" both girls yelled, earning some looks from others but they didn't care.
"He was drunk! I- I didn't think he was being serious! I mean- he was about to fall asleep. Surely, he didn't mean it."
"Don't drunk people speak the truth?" Laura questioned.
"That's not entirely true. I never tell the truth. I actually lie."
"Yeah, sure," Laura scoffed, "So wait. You haven't spoken to Tom about it since?"
"No!" Kat frowned, "What am I even supposed to say? Hey before you fell asleep you may have said 'I think I love you' and I just wanted go know if you really meant it?"
"Why not?" Zendaya asked, earning a look from Kat, "What? Why not say exactly that?"
"Okay you probably never had any problems with your love life cause you look like that but in the real world, we ordinary folk aren't so lucky."
"Okay, you need to stop complimenting me and bringing yourself down at the same time. It's very uncomfortable for me."
"Oh what a hard life," Kat said sarcastically, getting an eye roll from Zendaya while Laura giggled.
"I'm going to call Tom now."
"What?" Kat asked wide-eyed, "No! I'm sorry. I was just joking-"
"Maybe this is a good thing," Laura smiled, "This will definitely give you all the answers you need, to sooth your mind."
"Oh dear god," Kat whispered when Zendaya put it on speaker, the girls hearing the ringing in anticipation.
Luckily, it didn't take too long for Tom to answer.

"Just hanging out with Z, enjoying our free time here in New York."
"Sounds nice. I miss New York."
"You miss New York or someone in New York?"
"Yes. How did you know I missed Laura?"
"Cut the crap, Tom. You don't miss me."
"I miss you so much."
"Not as much as you miss Kat!"
"I hate you."
"I mean, she's not wrong Tom. You obviously really miss Kat, like a lot."
"I hate you both."
"So what are we just not allowed to bring her up anymore? She's our friend too you know?"
"I know but hearing about her isn't so easy on me, okay?"
"So because the white man wants what he wants, we're just supposed to roll over and listen?"
"Z-"
"Please don't start with me. I don't want to be stressed out and sometimes I can't tell if you're joking or not-"
"What even happened between you and Kat?"
"You know exactly what happened. You were mad at me for like a week after you found out."
"Yeah, well, it would've been longer if we didn't have to work together."
"Wow that's nice to hear. You're a great friend."
"Thank you Tom! I know I am!"
"I was being sarcastic."
"And I wasn't."
"Okay, let's try to get back on topic, shall we? Tom what happened between you and Kat recently?"
"What? Nothing. Hello? She's ignoring me."
"So you didn't give her a little drunken call?"
"Fuck. Yeah. I did. I'm trying to forget about that though."
"Forget about the whole conversation or something specific that you said?"
"Way to make it obvious, Laura."
"What? I need answers!"
"Wait. Did Kat tell you I said something embarrassing?"
"No-"
"Whatever it was- tell her I didn't mean it. I was being a stupid drunk. I- I shouldn't be held accountable for my blabber mouth."
"So you really don't remember a thing?"
"No! I- maybe I remember saying I wanted to fly to her but I only said that cause the boys were rubbing it in my face that they saw her and I was jealous. I wasn't going to actually fly to her."
"Unless someone did actually get you to the airport."
"My drunk mind would've gone, yes."
"Oh please, Tom. Your sober mind would've gone if Kat said she wanted you here."
"... So are we done here? Did you guys just want to embarrass me a little more?"
"We just wanted to know if you remembered anything else."
"Yeah we've been dying to know what the conversation was about."
"Well I genuinely do not have a clue, sorry to disappoint."
"It's okay, Tom. You always disappoint."
"I swear to god, Z-"
Zendaya ended the call, looking at Kat with a smile on her face, "There we go. That was easy."
Laura smiled softly before looking at her too, frowning a bit seeing the blank look on her face, "Kat? You okay?"
"He-he doesn't remember," Kat whispered.
Zendaya and Laura exchanged looks before Zendaya reached over to hold her hand, "I'm sorry."
"No, no this is good," Kat forced a smile, "Now I don't have to stress out wondering if he loves me or not- cause now I know he definitely doesn't if he can't even remember what he said."
They both only nodded, knowing deep down Kat was really bothered.
But even Kat didn't know why. She should be happy but here she was, feeling like Tom just kicked her heart just one more time for fun.
She hated feeling this way.
