„Hey Don.." Harvey greets her, as she comes in.
„Hey, how are you?" she asks in response.
„I don't know..you just left and I.." he starts.
„I am sorry, I just..let's say that ‚we' are really complicated." she explains, „What do you remember anyway? I mean what do you think happened between us?"
He's quiet for a while.
„I know that we met 13 years ago in a bar and that you've been working for me ever since. But before we went to PSL, we slept together." he starts.
„That's true..go on." Donna says, giving him an encouraging smile.
„Okay..I remember you telling me to forget what happened and us working together at PSL." Harvey murmurs.
Donna nods.
„Can I ask you something?" Harvey asks.
„Sure."
„Why did you wanted me to forget that?" he asks, looking her in the eyes.
„Because you where nowhere near to have a serious relationship and I didn't want to lose you." she whispers, looking down at her hands.
He normally wouldn't have asked her that, at least not that bluntly. But it's a question that he kept asking himself over the years and since they were talking.
„I am so sorry. I really don't get my past self sometimes." he answers honestly.
Donna gives him a sad smile.
„So what else do you remember?" she asks then.
„I remember telling you that I love you and running away. Again. And acting like a total jerk. Again." he replies, realizing how bad he had treated Donna at times, „How did you cope with me all these years? Honestly."
Donna's heart knows the answer to that, but instead of answering she just laughs it away.
„I remember being with Paula and telling you about it.." he starts again, „and then you kissed me and we fought about it for days. I broke up with Paula, I chose you over her. I invited you over one evening...and I told you that..I'm in love with you and that that's the way I love you. We talked for hours, trying to figure it all out. And I guess you can imagine what happened after."
„One of us ran away?" Donna asks quietly.
„No, no. We spent a really hot night together. And the next morning I woke up and you brought me coffee, telling me that it had been worth the wait." Harvey says.
Donna nods, trying to get the images from their first night out of her mind. That indeed has been the best night of her life.
„Okay, so uhh..we did kiss. And we fought for days, you chose me over her. And then we just kind off went back to our old dynamic. You didn't tell me that you love me and neither did we sleep together." Donna explains, trying to keep it all together.
Harvey nods slowly. Donna looks down at her hands.
„Hey, come here." he says, making some room for her on his mattress.
She slowly stands up and lays down next to Harvey. He puts his arm around her, making her feel comfortable and safe. Whoever said that being in the arms of a person you love, feels like the safest place on earth, was right.
And then they just lay there. Next to each other as if there bodies where shaped for it. After some time they both fall asleep.
Later that day, Mike and Rachel come in to check on them, finding them peacefully asleep in each other's arms.
„They are so made for each other." Rachel whispers and Mike nods in response.
She is right. He hopes that they're finally in the same place. Even when Harvey's brain is a little messed up at the moment, he's convinced of their love. Maybe that's even what needed to happen for Harvey to finally open his eyes and see what's right under his nose.
