Ominous sounds filled the room and a bright light filled the surrounding area as Papyrus wrapped his arms around you tighter. Asgore's low growl could be heard and his footsteps shook the castle as he walked towards the barrier.
A loud whooshing sound echoed around the room and strange sounds bounced across the walls as you cowered into your boyfriend's chest. Your breathing was heavy and you clenched your eyes shut as you hoped for the best.
Suddenly, everything was quiet. Completely and utterly quiet, it was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
*The barrier has been broken.
"He did it! the barrier has been shattered!" Toriel exclaimed happily.
Everyone quickly whipped around to see the faint glow of the outside world though the tunnel that once held the barrier. Sans looked towards the light with concern in his red iris. He must be worried that Frisk will reset the timeline. You pulled out of Papyrus' grasp and walked over to Sans. He looked at you immediately and lifted a 'bone'brow, he doesn't know what you are planning, but you do.
You quickly ran up to him and threw your arms around him, pulling him into a big hug. "Don't be scared, Sans. I have control now and I am not planning on ever resetting the timeline." You spoke to him calmly.
He stayed frozen in your hold for a good ten seconds before he hugged you back. "thanks, sweetheart." He responded with a sigh.
"No, thank you, Sans." You spoke as you pulled away with a gentle smile.
"thank you for what? i've just pretty much been an ass to ya this entire time." He replied in confusion.
"You may have been quite rude at first, but you've really come around. You have been there for me and protected me for your brother's sakes, even though you could care less if I was alive or not. That's why I'm thanking you, Sans." You responded.
He stood there silently for a moment before he smiled and chuckled, "ey, dollface, i'm so sorry for all the crap i made ya go through." He quickly apologized.
"It's okay Sans, I understand so, you don't need to apologize." You responded as you smiled happily.
"U-Undyne... H-holy... T-The barrier... It's gone!" Alphys screeched which made both you and Sans jump.
You whipped around to see Undyne run in and practically trample her girlfriend in an attempt to see the missing barrier. "King Asgore, you did it!" Undyne remarked in surprise.
"Yes, Undyne. I did, now... Are you all ready to see the stars?" He asked everyone.
"Hell yeah!" Undyne exclaimed as she grabbed Alphys, throwing her over her shoulder again.
"U-Undyne! B-bloody h-hell! Put me down!" Alphys protested.
Asgore let out a deep chuckle and walked over to Toriel, he looked the same as he had before. Maybe he looked different when he absorbed the souls but once he used them to break the barrier he changed back? You wouldn't know though since he said not to look.
Asgore reached over and took Toriel's hand, "Let's go, my love." he spoke with a genuine smile.
Toriel nodded and returned the smile as he led her to the tunnel and outside. Undyne quickly ran out the exit after them with Alphys still on her shoulder and Papyrus looked to you and Sans. "DO WE GO NOW?" He asked as he nervously played with his phalanges.
"Do you want to see the surface?" You asked him in response and he nodded.
"Then yes, let's go." You responded as you started walking towards the tunnel.
"HOLD UP, COME HERE FOR A SECOND." Papyrus spoke, his voice unwavering.
You nodded and walked back to him, "Yes, Papyrus?" you asked him curiously.
"WALK BEHIND ME FOR A MOMENT." He ordered which caused you to lift an eyebrow suspiciously.
Despite how suspicious you were, you walked behind him like he said and waited. "Now, what's this about?" You asked him curiously.
He bent down slightly, grabbed you by the waist and lifted you up onto his shoulders. "THAT." He responded as a pink tint appeared on your face.
"But Papy, I can walk myself." You protested.
"SO? CAN I NOT LET YOU RIDE ON MY SHOULDERS?" He responded.
"Well, I guess you can..." You replied with a sigh.
"you two are cute as hell." Sans commented which caused you to giggle.
"HOW CUTE DO YOU THINK HELL IS, SANS?" Papyrus asked him in a contradicting way.
Sans froze for a few seconds and just shrugged, "i dunno, boss. i really wasn't expectin' ya to point out how ridiculous that was." Sans replied with a deep chuckle.
"Papyrus, I need to tell you something before we go outside... Sans, go on without us." You told Sans quietly.
Sans nodded, "alright, kiddos. i'll be outside, talk to ya in a bit." he replied before he walked outside.
You kissed the top of Papyrus' skull and held onto his shoulders. "WHAT IS IT?" Papyrus asked you nervously.
"I just wanted to say that I love you with all my heart, thank you for helping keep me alive." You told him as you leaned your chin on the top of his skull.
"NO, THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME THERE WAS HOPE. YOU HAVE HELPED ME MORE THAN YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE, YOU EVEN HELPED REKINDLE MY BOND WITH SANS. I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THAT." He responded.
"I only wanted the best for you two, sibling bonds are wonderful and I hated seeing that yours was broken." You replied.
"WELL, IT'S NICE TO HAVE SUCH A BOND BACK. THANK YOU, (Y\N)." He spoke happily.
"No problem, my love." You purred in response which made him turn a faint shade of crimson.
"READY TO GO NOW?" He asked and you took a deep breath, "Yes, let's go." you replied excitedly.
Papyrus quickly walked inside the tunnel and froze when he saw the faint glow of the moon. "IS THAT THE SUN?" He asked you curiously.
"Actually, no. That's the moon, it's nighttime." You replied with a slight giggle.
"OH... THAT'S COOL! WHERE DOES THE SUN GO AT NIGHT?" He asked you.
Oh my gosh, he's so precious. How could a homicidal skeleton ever end up so much like a cinnamon roll? Wait no, how could an edgy homicidal skeleton ever turn out to be such a cinnamon roll underneath?
"I'll explain later, come on. I want to see your reaction to the outside world." You told him with a smile.
He nodded and continued walking forward, when he took his first step out of the tunnel, he looked around in amazement. "WOW..." He gasped in awe.
The stars twinkled in the night sky and the moon shown brightly, lighting the mountain and the ground below. Papyrus looked around the dark blue sky and let out a happy sigh. "IT'S B-BEAUTIFUL." He remarked.
"Yes, it really is." You replied as you sighed happily.
Papyrus put you back on the ground and he took your hand, his red pinpricks looked deep into your (e\c) eyes and he smiled. "BUT, IN MY EYES... YOU'RE STILL THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I'VE EVER SEEN." He told you softly which caused a dark red blush to creep upon your face.
"Aw geez, you're so sweet..." You replied bashfully as you turned your gaze away from him.
He fumbled through his pockets before he pulled out his phone. He looked around to make sure nobody was present before he pushed a few buttons and as you looked at him in confusion, a song came on.
"(Y\N), I DO BELIEVE YOU OWE ME A DANCE." He spoke with a smile as he but the phone in his pocket, speaker up so that it wouldn't be muffled.
You giggled slightly and blushed, you had promised him a dance a while back. That was back before you had even confessed your feelings to him. If you remember correctly, you had made that promise right after he had gotten hurt. You are really glad that he had healed well, it was great to have the normal Papyrus back.
"Hm, I guess you're right, Papyrus." You responded with a kind smile.
"WELL, MAY I HAVE THIS DANCE?" He asked you.
"Of course, love." You responded as you stuck out your hand.
He took your hand and put one hand on your back and in return, you put your free hand on his shoulder. He pulled you close to him and you both swayed back and forth dancing a slow dance.
You were happy that Papyrus was able to see the surface on a beautiful night like this, no clouds filled the dark night sky and all the stars seemed to be out, twinkling with all their might. This was the absolute perfect time for a romantic dance, you were glad you had accepted his offer.
"I'M SO GLAD I'M SHARING THIS MOMENT WITH YOU." Papyrus breathed happily.
"I'm glad I'm sharing this moment with you as well, Papyrus." You replied as you continued to sway back and forth.
Papyrus looked deep into your eyes again and once the music stopped, he leaned forward and pressed his teeth against your lips. You wrapped your arms around his neck in response and he held you closer, deepening the kiss. His arms were wrapped around your waist and he eventually broke the kiss.
When he pulled away, he looked at you for a moment before he let out a deep sigh. "(Y\N)... THERE ARE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU.. " He started.
"AND, I KNOW THIS MIGHT BE TOO SOON BUT... I JUST KNOW THAT YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE I COULD EVER LOVE, SO..." He continued as he got down on one knee and held out a black ring box, flipping it open. Inside was a beautiful silver ring with a red ruby in the middle.
"(Y\N), WILL YOU MARRY ME?" He asked you.
You quickly held your hand over your mouth in surprise as you looked at him in shock. You hadn't expected him to ask this question anytime soon, but... You were happy that he did. You soon nodded your head up and down quickly as tears welled up in your eyes. "Y-yes! Of course Papyrus!" You responded to him as you looked up at him with a wide smile.
He smiled too and got back up, walking over and sliding the ring on your finger. He leaned forward and kissed you yet again and you pulled him into a big hug.
"I love you so much, Papyrus..." You spoke to your new fiancé.
"I LOVE YOU TOO, MY PRECIOUS ROSE." He replied as you buried your face in his chest.
And in that moment, you could hear Gaster's faint whisper echo "I live.", that was the final thing you had needed to relax completely into this new lifestyle. Gaster had survived Frisk's terrible attacks and everything had gone back to normal. You could only wonder what life would bring next.
