It was late afternoon by the time I got there; of course the bus had to be all stops. The bus pulled to a stop just at the top of Premier Rd, I thanked the driver and got off the bus, watching it pull away from the bus stop knowing I was now out in the open, I kept observant to my surroundings making sure if my father followed me I could spot him, his changed so much, his brown shaggy hair was now short and blonde, his blue eyes were flat and dull anymore they were now vibrant and his personality, well unfortunately that didn’t change.

It was a warm, sunny day, no clouds in sight, I strolled down the street, tapping away at my phone, looking up every now and then to making sure I didn’t run into anything, I sent a text to Beau, Luke, Jai, James and Daniel telling them that my father was back and he might be looking around for me, I gave them a description of what he looks like as well, I didn’t tell them where I was going though, I didn’t want them to. Before they could reply to me I turned off my phone, slipping it into my bag. It wasn’t long until I got to my destination, I walked along the pebbles and up to the small cottage like house, I knocked on the door 3 times, before taking a step back, the door flung open, “Gina!” I squealed before she could say anything, she engulfed me in a hug before pulling back with a smile sketched across her face.

“What brings you here Sky?” she questioned me in an cheerful voice, she stepped aside letting me in, I walked towards the lounge room and sat down.

“I lost the baby” I said with a long sigh at the end, I felt the couch dip next to me, the smiling Gina was now a confused Gina

“What baby?” she asked, Beau hadn’t told her I was pregnant?

“You know… The baby… I was meant to have with uh… Beau?” I said softly, my head hung low, Gina looked shocked, I felt a lump appear in my throat, he obviously hasn’t told her about Savannah either, every time I hear her name makes me sick. “It doesn’t matter though, I had a miscarriage” I smiled slightly trying to let her know I was fine.

“Sky” she breathed weakly before pulling me in for a hug, a few tears trickled down my face, it felt good to cry in a mums arm, she might not be my mum, but she definitely has acted it for the past 5 years. I’d do anything to have my mum back, but if I did, maybe I wouldn’t have met half of the great people I have, my cries got harder as I thought about my mother, I felt Gina’s shirt starting to become wet, and her fingers run through my hair as she rocked me back in forth in her arms, and if I didn’t know better I think Gina was crying too.

After a good hour of staying in that position it was already becoming dark, “do you mind if I stay here the night Gina?” I questioned her as we watched TV, Gina had put on called Dodge Ball, it was quite funny surprisingly.

"Of course you can sweetie!” she said joyfully, but a concerned look still on her face as it had been since I told her I had a miscarriage, “what do you feel like for dinner?” she asked, her eyes never leaving the TV screen. I know now where the boys get it from.

“How about Chinese?” I asked

“Sure”

-----------------

Long after dinner was finished Gina went off to go to Zumba down at the community hall with a few other mums or what she would like to say her friends. She had always loved to dance. It was 9:45pm, Gina said she would be home around 10:30, so I locked up the house except for the back door which she asked me to leave unlocked, I then trailed up into the spare room, there was a TV, I turned it on and just snuggled up under the covers, the house was quiet, it kind of scared me. I was kind of zoned out when something caught my attention on the news,

“3 found dead in Broadmedows” the blonde lady informed everyone watching, I froze up, a horrible feeling pooling at the bottom of my stomach, video footage was show outside the house, my house, the Brooks brothers house. I couldn’t pull my eyes away from the TV, this could not be happening. “Police are currently investigating, there isn’t any information on the story, victims still yet to be identified” The lady said once again showing no sign on sympathy.

I sat there in shock, they can’t be dead, they just can’t. I ran into the bathroom and quickly splashed some water into my face, I definitely wasn’t dreaming. I ran down stairs jumping the last 3 steps and landing with a loud thud, I put on my chucks that were at the door, and quickly unlocked, I ran over to next door noticing they had a car, “open up! Please!” I screamed, but no answer, “please! If you can hear me, open up!” I screamed out again, my voice as loud as it can possibly go. I saw a light turn up, “please, please, please open up!” I screamed out again, tears now rolling down my face, the door slowly open

“Can I help you?” a lady said sounding very annoyed, her brown hair ruffled everywhere,

“I need to borrow your car, I’m Gina’s daughter in law, and I think her sons may be… dead” I chocked on the last words thinking about them, fear racked through my body sending loud cries out of my mouth.

“I’ll drive you, just let me get my keys” the lady said quickly running off to get her keys,

I walked off over to the car soon followed by the next door neighbour, she pressed a button causing the car to unlock, we jumped in and before I could even put on my seatbelt she took off, I went to say something but was cut off by the lady

“Don’t worry love, I know where they live, been there plenty of times” the woman said, I continued to cry but just wanted to get there and know they were talking about the wrong house.

It wasn’t long until we got to the house, and by what I could see, it was definitely my house that was on the TV. Blue and red lights filled the street, police cars and ambulances where everywhere. I got out the car, running over to the scene pushing past police and through the caution tape, when someone pulled me back

“no interviewers on site ma’am” a police officer told me

“I live here” I said sternly, ripping out of his release and running towards the house before he could stop me once more

The house was filled with photographers, police and investigators, I walked through the front door, my stomach turning, blood covered the white walls, I turned into the lounge room, blood was all over the floor, the table was turned over, books were scattered everywhere, the TV was smashed on the ground and there sitting on the lounge was Jai, Jai’s alive? His alive! He was being treated by a paramedic, “Jai!” I screamed an ran over to him, lunging myself in his direction before anyone could stop me, he didn’t look at me, just beyond me, he looked like he had just seen a ghost, his face was pale and he was shaking, “Jai” I said a little more softer moving bits of hair out of his face.

“Excuse me ma’am, do you live here?” a deep voice said behind me, I turned to see a tall man dressed in black,

“Who are you?” I said taking in his appearance

“FBI, private investigator ma’am” he said holding out a wallet that had a picture of him and a symbol I had never seen before

“Yes, I do live here” I said wrapping my arms around me, it just hit me. 3 dead. If Jai was alive, who were the other 3?

“Would you be able to come outside please ma’am?” he said moving towards the door, trying not to interrupt anyone in the crowded house. I followed him outside and to a black van, “we need you to identify these bodies please ma’am, you will need to say there full name, date of birth and age please” He said in the same dull tone.

I took a big gulp and stepped up into the van, the bodies were covered by a thin blanket, the investigator and a photographer stood beside me, the first body was revealed, I chocked on my tears.  “Luke Anthony Mark Brooks, 3rd of the 5th, 1995, and he was 21” I said chocking on my tears, my Lukeey, was gone. I felt faint, I didn’t even get to say goodbye, the last thing we spoke about, was our fight, blood covered his face, a bullet hole straight through the middle of his head. Tears ran freely down my face, but I made no noise, I lent down and kissed his cheek, “I love you Luke” I breathed weakly as I stepped back and a photographer took his picture, the investigator quickly covered it up with the thin white blanket.

We moved onto the next person, the blanket was removed and I felt my body freeze up, how this could be happening, this is all a bad dream I thought, it has to be. “Ryan Levi Partridge, 19th of the 4th, 1972. 43 years old” I could never love my father, not after everything he has done to me, I moved quickly over to the last body, and the photographer took a photo of my father and then the investigator covered up his body.

Onto the last person, I knew who it was; I didn’t want it to be him either. I knew it was though. The body was revealed, I felt the tears run heavier down my face, “Beau Peter Brooks, 31st of the 7th 93, age 23” I said before feeling my knees give out on me, this couldn’t be happening. It can’t be. I saw the bright flash of the photographer taking a photo, I saw the investigator pull the thin blanket over the top of Beau, I had to say, with all the strength I had left in me, I grabbed the edge of Beau’s bed and stood up, I pulled the blanket off, blood covered his face, but he was still beautiful. I leant in and gave him a soft kiss, but didn’t feel the usual fireworks; I was greeted with cold, lifeless lips “good bye Beau” I sobbed, I took a few steps back and jumped out of the van, tears never leaving my eyes. I saw a lady standing nearby a tree, her hand covered over her face, and silent sobs left her, it was Gina. I ran over and gave her a hug, she pulled away from me looking at me as if she didn’t know me,

“I’m sorry Gina” I sobbed, but she gave me the same look as she did before, she shook her head

“Why didn’t you tell me?” she asked in a shaky voice,

“I didn’t think it was… important. I didn’t want to worry you, I told the boys, and I’m so sorry Gina” I cried to her but she shook her head again and walked off,

I could feel myself hyperventilating, Gina hates me, Jai will probably never talk to me again, and Luke and Beau are gone. I felt a lump at the back of my throat come up until I was sick, everywhere, a paramedic came over and took me to an ambulance, I could feel my body swaying and getting dizzy, i looked over to the house and saw Jai and Gina walk out, “Jai!”I screamed it echoing through my ears, “Gina!” I screamed, before I felt myself falling back,

“Skyla” the paramedic said, my eyes got heavy I could feel them dropping.
