Pic of Tessa to the side-------->
Tell me what ya'll think :)
*****
"Abby, where are you going?" Asked a worried Justine.
"I have to go to my locker to pack. Ya'll- I mean you guys can go without me." I replied.
Ugh! I'm still getting used to being a northerner.
"You sure?" She asked.
"Yea, I'll live." I answered.
No one wanted to go to lunch. We all knew that I was going to get made fun of and humiliated, but I didn't care. I needed to see why Casey started this in the first place.
I walked down the blue tiled hallway to my locker.
The place was fairly empty because the bell for lunch rang about ten minutes ago.
I saw James crouched on the ground getting books out of his locker. If I wasn't still irritated with him I might have felt bad for him because he had a bottom locker. I was surprisingly lucky because I always got a top locker.
When he realized my presence, I glared at him and kept walking.
"You're not still mad at me are you?" He asked. I couldn't see him because he was behind me, but I imagined him smiling.
I stopped for split second, but kept my gaze ahead, "I don't know."
Then I continued my journey down the long hallway.
I came to my locker and attempted to do the combination, but with everything on my mind it wouldn't open. I tried again to no avail. I sucked in an annoyed breath.
"I can bust it open for you, if you want." A familiar male voice said.
Why was everybody scaring me today?
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." He said apologetically.
"It's ok. Thanks but," I glanced behind me, it was Matthew, "I'll get it someday."
Oh, God.
"I'll wait for you then."
Oh, triple G!
I finished the combination and pulled the lock, and it clicked open,"YES!" I was quite proud of myself.
"I mean why." I said just realizing that my outburst wasn't just in my head.
He laughed, "Is it bad that I want to walk you to lunch?"
Maybe...
I swung open the locker and smiled, knowing that my back was to him, and he couldn't see me.
I loved his laugh.
"Oh, no I was just... curious." I replied trying not to sound nervous.
I pushed the hair out of my face and picked out the books that I needed for the remainder of the day and squeezed the ones that I didn't need anymore into the tiny locker.
Quickly zipping my backpack and tossing it on my back carelessly, I stood up (not forgetting to grab my lunch kit).
"Lets go."
We walked down the hall in casual conversation. My heart raced. I must just be nervous about Casey.
"So why did you move here?" He questioned.
"My dad's work. He's in the marines." I replied wishing I had a more interesting answer.
"Nice." He commented.
"Not really he's always away, and when he's not, he's only home for a couple weeks then he's gone again."
"Yeah, I understand." He stared straight into my eyes.
"You do?" I asked surprised, but looked away it was too intense.
"Yep. My dad used to be in the army." He answered staring at the ground.
I noticed there was uneasiness in his voice, so I decided not to question him further.
"Would you like to sit with me at lunch?" He popped the question so quickly I had no time to react.
Sure! My heart pleaded.
"I'm sorry I can't."
"Isn't that what they always say." He shook his head.
"I'm sorry- I mean I would like to, but Casey is making me sit with them and-"
He cut me off. "Why is she making you do that?" A slight crease formed on his forehead and his smile dropped with... was that irritation? It was pretty funny.
"Well I mean she says 'we have to talk' and if I decline she'll hate me and that's the last thing I need right now."
"I say to heck with her. I mean she doesn't rule the world, but it's your choice."
He does have a point.
It was weird how he had the ability to change my stubborn mind, and no one else could.
"I didn't feel like dealing with her anyway." I decided and we walked through the doors of the cafeteria together.
The place was crowded and loud, like usual. It made sense why- because there was food. That special four-lettered word draws everyone's attention, and makes everyone happy.
Except I rarely eat cafeteria food... It grosses me out. I've been bringing my lunch for the longest time.
He walked over to the table in the middle of the room and I followed suit, until I realized Casey was sitting at the table closest to the one he was leading me too.
I looked from him to her, undecided on what I should do now.
"Just ignore her, what's the worst she can do?" He whispered in my ear then walked to his spot on the other side to the red table.
Seriously, the red tables did not go with a blue tiled floor. This was my first time sitting in the school cafeteria, but I passed through here everyday, and I was just noticing this? The person who decorated this room did not know their colors.
I took my seat between a guy and a girl. Luckily no one at our table seemed to mind that I was there.
The girl had curly brown hair, light brown eyes, and tan skin. "Hey, my name's Rebecca." She smiled at me.
"Hi, I'm-" I started.
"We know who you are." Said the guy on the other side of me.
"Well that's a first." I half-turned to face him.
His dark eyes seemed to stare straight through me. It was very unsettling.
"It's nice to meet you both." I tried my best to smile.
He did not return the smile, just rolled his eyes and directed his attention to the ground.
Ok, then.
"Oh, don't let Nick get to you. He treats everyone like dirt. He'll never change." Rebecca said shaking her head.
Oh, he will. I'll make sure of it. He's not going to continue to treat me like that.
"I'll introduce you to everyone else, if you want." She offered nicely.
"Sure, I think I'm starting to like you." I told her truthfully.
She giggled, "Why thank you."
We both laughed together. It's amazing how one acquaintance can change your whole thought on a day.
"Alright. So that's Derek." She pointed to the guy on the right side of Matthew.
He also had tan skin with light brown eyes, but his hair was straight and dark brown.
It was obvious that he did some sort of sport because Derek, like Matthew, had a strong muscular figure.
"And over there is Tessa." She gestured to a beautiful red-haired girl who was sitting next to Derek. Her eyes seemed to sparkle when she laughed,"She's Derek's girlfriend."
"You two are talking about me, aren't you?" Derek eyed us suspiciously,"Don't worry, I'm fine with it. Everyone talks about how awesome I am."
Tessa giggled once again.
"Oh, shut it Derek." Rebecca glared at him. Then I got it.
"Family resemblance?" I guessed.
"Yup," Derek laughed at his sister's glaring face.
"I wish it wasn't so obvious." She finally dropped her glare from her brother, who was still laughing.
"Don't listen to Becca, she'll just tell you lies about my amazingness." Derek whisper-talked, pretending his sister couldn't hear.
The whole table laughed (including Nick).
"You wish you were amazing." Rebecca shot back, trying to hide her smile.
"I know you were laughing Beckie!" Derek pestered his sister more.
"Will you leave me alone?!" She yelled irritatedly.
"Just because you said that, I won't." He smirked,"in fact..." He whispered something into Matthew's ear.
Rebecca and I glanced at each other and shrugged.
The two boys laughed.
"That, my friend," Matthew shook his head,"is a stupid but awesome idea."
"What are you two up to?" I questioned.
"You'll figure it out soon enough."
Derek laughed and him and Matt fist bumped.
Boys.

"That wasn't so bad now, was it?" Matthew asked me as we headed down the brick pathway that lead to Spanish class.
"Surprisingly no." I had forgotten all about Casey and had a good time,"your friends are really great."
"Yeah, they're pretty fun." Matthew agreed as we approached the final turn of the path.
I took in a deep breath of fresh air."I never thought..." I stopped myself.
"You never thought what?" He asked opening the door, and let me go in first.
"Thanks." I blushed,"That New York would be this fun and just a great-oh I don't know."
"Experience?"
"Yeah," I smiled at him,"I didn't really want to come in the first place. I mean leave all the memories, people, and traditions behind." I shook my head,"But everyone was excited to leave. Excited to leave our home and everything about our life in the past behind! I just didn't understand."
He looked unsure of what to say and really did look sorry, and not just saying it like some people do.
"Don't be. I'm here, aren't I?" I smiled at him reassuringly as we approached the wood door that meant an hour of lecturing in a foreign language.
I sighed,"Here we go. You ready?"
"Ready as I'll ever be to sleep." He joked.
"Well, grab your pillow." I laughed and he opened the old door and it creaked on its hinges.
