A/N:

My cat just fell off the windowsill. Nice. (Like 3 years ago. I didn't want to take this down. xD)

PS. I think this song goes with it perfectly. T^T

There was a knock on the door, stirring me awake.

I bit back a groan and moved closer to the lump of warmth that was at my side. I really didn't want to move and wasn't planning on it.

The lump of warmth moved from my grasp, causing a small whine to escape my lips. "Who are you?" someone asked.

I opened my eyes to see Xavier near the bed before turning to look at the door. A small smile appeared on my face when I saw the doctor.

Dr. Trent had his head bowed. He didn't seem scared with Xavier glaring at him, and I was sure it was because he had seen a lot of angry people. "Dr. Cornelius Trent, Alpha," he said. "I have been told that I was needed."

"By who?" he asked, growling.

I looked at Xavier and saw him glaring at the doctor. I could tell that he was tense and did not trust him.

"The twins' father," I said, causing Xavier to look at me. "Dr. Trent works with both the members of the Royal family and the Guardsmen."

Xavier hesitated but nodded his head. "Are you going to check over her, or do you want to get some rest?"

"Check over her," he replied. He glanced at me. "If that is all right."

I nodded my head. "You know that you can always just check me over tomorrow. I know that you are tired."

Dr. Trent walked over to me and set his black bag on the counter. "And miss seeing my favorite person?" he asked. He shook his head, no. "Besides, we need to get you eating as soon as possible. When was the last time you had a full meal?"

I shrugged my shoulder and watched as he pulled out a notebook. "A year or two ago?" I asked.

He paused and looked up at me, his brown eyes warm. "Party?" he asked, causing me to shrug my shoulder. "Hmmmm."

"Should... I leave or stay?" Xavier asked, looking between Dr. Trent and I. He shifted on his feet, and I could tell that he was nervous.

"You can stay if you like," Dr. Trent said, looking up from his notebook. "When was the last time that you had shifted?"

"You can stay," I said, looking at Xavier. I took a deep breath and looked at Dr. Trent. "I don't know," I said, honestly. "Probably the fifth or sixth month that... my ex and I were together."

Dr. Trent paused in his writing and peered at me. Worry filled his eyes, and I could understand why. "Not good, not good at all," he said. "Last time you had contact with your Wolf?"

I shrugged. "'Bout two year ago."

He clicked his tongue and shook his head, staying silent.

"I still heal quicker than Humans and still have keener senses than them," I said, trying to ease some of those worry lines off of his face.

He sighed and shook his head. "It's still not good," he said, fiddling with his glasses. "Have you been taking your medication?"

"Medication?" Xavier asked from where he was seated. Concern was on his face, and I could tell that he didn't like the news of me not shifting. He and I knew that our Wolves could die, and sometimes, the Human spirit follows.

I shook my head no. "I don't have a wolf to "control". I haven't seen the need for it," I said.

"The medication is to help control her Wolf when she gets angry, Alpha," Dr. Trent explained. "Cassandra is feral. Her anger is much worse than yours and much more destructive."

I looked down and didn't say anything. Between the two of us, then I was the monster. That was why I had been sent to the Guardsman training in the first place at a very young age. I had stayed there for almost ten years when the King had deemed it safe for me to return to my pack.

By that time, my uncle and my aunt had their first child and claimed me as their own. They had trusted me with their child, even though others wouldn't because of my past.

"I... shifted when Rogues had attacked my parents," I said, not looking at him. "I was six." I felt him stiffen and shift in his seat. I could feel his gaze on me, but I didn't meet it.

"Six months after her parents' death, she came to the kingdom and started training. She was very destructive to both herself and to others around her. She didn't know how to control the anger inside of her," Dr. Trent added.

"Was she like this?" he asked. "So skinny?"

"Yes, Alpha," Dr. Trent said. "But, she got better and stronger. She learned how to control her anger through medication and pills." He grabbed my hand and squeezed it, his grasp familiar.

I looked up at him but didn't say a word. I could tell that my eyes were wide and had the same look that they had in them all those years ago.

Dr. Trent smiled down at me and squeezed my hand again. "We'll bring the confident girl back again," he promised, softly. He cleared his throat. "Now, let's go get you checked up and washed before bringing in that baby of yours in here. Ya? We can see if we can't wake up your Wolf that way."

I nodded my head and stayed silent. I wasn't sure if I would find that confident girl again, but I was going to try.

If not for my sake, then for my baby's sake. He needed to have a strong parent figure and not some shell of a person.
