Rose hadn't noticed anyone as excited for the dance as her - which was totally something that she wasn't used to. All the other years she had declared it as something that stood in the way of her precious study time, plus, why even bother going without a date? It was something that excited Lily so much too. Never ever had she been able to drag her cousin along to something like this and now she was volunteering? That was amazing!

"But," Rose asked as they were in Hogsmeade searching for accessories, "who's your date, Lils?"

"I don't have a date, actually. I go with some friends of mine, we are each others date!" Lily said excitingly. She held a pair of earrings up to show to Rose, but Rose nodded her head. No, these weren't the kind of earrings that would fit nicely with her dress.

"That sounds fun!" Rose said, while looking at all the bracelets she saw.

"It does, doesn't it? It's something I've only been suggesting for years now, Rose," Lily answered with a laugh.

"I just...fell right into that one, didn't I?" Rose laughed softly. The two of them looked around for a while before Lily started talking again.

"It's just strange to think that next year, you all will be gone," Lily said in a timid voice. Rose hadn't realised this herself. This was her last dance, but also her last year at Hogwarts. Every little thing she would do this year, she would do it for the last time.

"You'll have the twins tho," Rose said, "and perhaps we'll visit you at next year's dance?"

"Yeah, James said the same thing, but he didn't come last year, I don't think he'll come this year either," Lily answered softly.

"He really wanted to come, you know, with Fred, but with Fred gone...he just didn't see himself doing all those pranks on his own," Rose said laughingly.

"Like you would have approved of that tho," Lily laughed, "but I did forget that." They both sighted. There had been a time there where so many siblings of them had been at Hogwarts - they were almost able to fill their own table. The full Gryffindor table was crowded with gingers and ginger-likes. Everyone just loved them. They thought everyone was like everyone.

As pretty as Victoire for example, who had a pretty jealous boyfriend. She told them that when Teddy was in his last year and a boy tried to flirt with Victoire, he dueled with him until all the boys realized Victoire was his girlfriend. That didn't mean they really stopped flirting, because when Teddy wasn't at Hogwarts, they still were into her.

Or as funny as Fred, who could make the best jokes. Having uncle George as a father wouldn't really help that, though; he was a meant-to-be prankster.

As popular as James, who really did flirt with everyone. Sometimes his own family! He always talked in this cheeky way.

And then there was Rose. Rose, the smartest witch. They all thought she was funny, pretty and popular too, but no. No one was more disappointed than she was. Rose never knew where to leave her hands or what to say or do, so she decided to trust books instead. From time to time she could've a really good talk with James. It always seemed like when anyone wanted to talk with someone about something serious, they all went to Rose. And Rose? Rose went to Teddy, because he was really helpful and was a few years older. He was charming and smart. Rose got it why her cousin would fall for him. There was this awkward time when she was in love with him too, but Merlin's beard, that time was over. She had been eleven at the time or something? And really mad at Victoire, of course, but Teddy was just 'the older guy' around them. He'd been nineteen 'and soooo coool'. Rose looked up at her mother like crazy. She loved and admired her so much, that slowly she started to want to be her and even further. Rose was almost done with Hogwarts and then she could finally begin with reaching her goal. The goal her mother never had and the goal her mother rejected when she was offered it, but Rose wanted it. Rose wanted to become the new Minister of Magic. She would do anything to become minister. She knew she had the right family. Her mother, father, uncle Percy and uncle Harry were in good terms with the minister now, Kingsley. She also knew that in a matter of time uncle Percy would become the new minister. Maybe...it would be her turn after him.

These were the goals Rose really wanted to focus on. Not the strange love-focus with the Head Boy-thing. There only were two Head People. A girl and a boy. She could stay in the special room for the Head Boy and Girl, but she didn't want to be any part of Malfoy's snog-party's. Plus, she practically lived in the library, which was much closer to her common room. The only thing was that her hormones never stopped her from thinking about it. When her uncle Harry told her the story of his parents, Rose had never wanted anything as much as that. As Lily had said: "That's soooo romantic!" and now it was her goal. Who didn't want a guy who was so in love with you, that he couldn't stop asking you out? Together with the love story of her parents, where she knew was so much love involved, she had figured out her own love story. The only problem? The guy flirting with her AND being the Head Boy was Scorpius. Na-ah, that wasn't an option.

"Aren't you coming?" Lily asked, to snap Rose out of her dream. She was looking at the most perfect necklace ever and when fantasising of being given that by her great love, she had been dreaming.

"Joe is waiting for you, did you know that?" Lily continued. She showed Rose the bag that she'd gotten from the cashier and smiled at the necklace.

"That's a really pretty necklace," she said.

"Can you tell Joe that I'll be joining him a few minutes later? And that he doesn't have to wait here if he doesn't want to?" Rose asked Lily, while Lily shot her strange looks.

"Are you sure? I really have to go, because my friends are waiting, but are you okay?" Lily asked. Did it even matter to ask her this when she was in an hurry? Or was it actually true that the thought counted?

"I'm alright, Lily, thanks," Rose answered, but she wasn't. Everything should be perfect. Her dress was perfect, her hair was perfect, Joe was perfect, but it didn't feel perfect. Why was it that in this period that was called "the honeymoon fase" she was already feeling mixed feelings? As in it wasn't meant to be? Rose breathed in and out. Everything would be fine. Everything.

Dancing and laughing at the dance with Joe swiped all her worries away. He really was perfect and everything really was fine.

"What are you thinking about?" Joe asked her. He was wearing this amazing suit that made him even more handsome than he already was.

"This is...this is so perfect. Right now, I want time to stop and that we can stay in this moment, for ever!" Rose said and she closed her eyes. Suddenly she felt his lips on hers and what started as a sweet kiss became more and more intense. Intense on a level that Rose actually didn't know whether she actually liked it, but Joe kept going on and Rose felt like she didn't had a choice.

"Woah mate, get a room!" Albus laughed and he pulled Rose back. Ella was holding his hand and smiled softly at Rose.

"I hear my cousin hates you very much?" She asked Rose, when Albus decided to talk to Joe for a while. Rose grinned a bit and shook her shoulders.

"Well, what can I say? He does deserve it," she answered. Ella nodded and was thinking about her answer.

"I can't entirely deny it, because his behaviour is pretty...extreme this year. Compared to normally. Are you sure you have nothing to do with it? He normally doesn't get so worked up about things," Ella said carefully.

"Of course not, she's an angel!" Joe said, when Albus and he turned their conversation towards them. Rose smelled an enormous alcohol smell coming from Joe. When she looked around she saw some flying trays with firewiskey shots on them. Right, okay. So he was drunk, which would explain his...intense behaviour from earlier, but also the reason why Rose wanted to call it a night. She was tired anyways and her date wouldn't get any less drunk. She needed to go now. She turned around and immediately saw Malfoy. He was laughing and dancing with his date. Clearly one of them - or maybe the both of them - couldn't dance so they were just doing silly things. Rose felt for hem and that confused her. She really had to apologise, because maybe she was actually the reason why Malfoy was an extra brat towards her this year. She hadn't been easy too, that was for sure.

"Come on Joe, I want to go to bed, plus you're drunk," Rose said to Joe and offered him her hand. He slapped her hand away and laughed at her.

"Nonooooono I'm noooot drunk, no, drunk? No. I'm not drunk," he giggled, but when he saw Rose looking serious he stopped giggling.

"Baaaabe, it's only one o'cloooock, please staaay!" he said while pouting. Rose laughed a bit.

"Sure, of course you're not drunk. I'm tired, so I'll be going,"  she said determined and she gave him a smile.

"Okaaay, okaaay, I'll take you to youuuur bed and then I'll return. GOODBYE MY FRIENDS!" Joe shouted. If she wasn't completely sure about it before, she would be sure now. He was really, really drunk. It was more like she took Joe to his bed instead of otherwise. When he lay down his bed, Rose started to leave, but Joe stopped her.

"Stay with me, love!" he said, while closing his eyes. Calling her 'love' made her think of Malfoy and his various ways to call her. Sweetheart, darling, dear. Rose smiled and lied down next to him.

"Of course," she said and she closed her eyes. She felt Joe shifting and suddenly he was kissing her. More intense and passionately than he'd done before. This time, Rose knew she didn't like it and Joe kept pushing her.

"Joe, stop! This isn't you! You're hurting me! STOP!" she said, but he didn't stop. This actually turned him on, as he started forcing himself even more on her now. Rose didn't know what to do, she wasn't exactly experienced with boys and her relationship with Joe had been too short for her to actually thinking about...doing this.

"STOP JOE! PLEASE!" Rose said. She was crying by now. She tried to hit him and she was looking for her wand, but it was nowhere to be found.

Suddenly Joe was gone, but as soon as Rose looked up, she saw that someone else was in the room, keeping Joe away from him.

"Lumos," a voice Rose would recognise everywhere, said.

"Malfoy?" Rose and Joe both said surprised. The little bit of light that had been spreading in the room and Rose recognised now his blonde hair too.

"Baaaack off, Malfoy, myyy giiiirl!" Joe said angrily, but still drunk.

"You back off, you dimwit, you hurt her!" Malfoy answered. Rose couldn't understand what was happening.

"Yessssh, but didn't you heeeaar, you hurttt her aassssh well," Joe was hissing now and turned to Rose.

"Rooooosssieeeh, why diiid you reject meee?" Joe asked and he pouted again.

"Because you're drunk," Rose hissed back. She really didn't need to discuss this in front of Malfoy of all people.

"Nooooonooonooo, I knoooow! It's beecauuusse of feerrett hereee," Joe laughed and he got out of the bed.

"What? Joe, why should I do that? This is crazy," Rose rolled her eyes and looked away.

"Pluh, paaaarty-poooper, I'm going to the reaaaal party," Joe said and he run away.

"JOE!" Rose screamed, because this wasn't okay. Joe should be resting by now. This wasn't like him, he wasn't like this! Malfoy, however, pushed her back and didn't let her go.

"He's drunk and he's not seeing this right. He'll probably be hungover tomorrow so just ignore him for a few days and then you'll have your boyfriend back," he said and he sat down on Joe's bed.

"What were you even doing her?" Rose asked with her hands on her hips. Was he following her or something?

"My date is a Gryffindor, so, gentleman-like as I am, I brought her here and then we heard you. She didn't care, but I thought it wouldn't be wise to have a crazy-ass Head Girl, so I came here," Malfoy explained. The story was a little fishy, but Rose just rolled her eyes.

"Yeah sure, because it's not like you actually do like me, don't you?" Rose asked. Just to be sure, she told herself. She just wanted to be sure Malfoy didn't like her. Yes. That was it.

"Nah, I don't, but now everybody will like me even more because I saved the day," Malfoy grinned and Rose slapped him.

"Who was she actually, your date?" Rose said. She couldn't remember anyone talking about being Malfoy's date, which wasn't what most girl would chose for. Plus, someone from her house that didn't like her? Most people just thought nothing of her, found her okay-ish, were her family or Malfoy. She didn't know there was another special kind of hate-club focused on her.

"Daisy. She's in our year," Malfoy said. Rose noticed they were actually having a some kind of normal conversation. Which was weird for them.

"And she doesn't like me, because...?" Rose asked.

"I think she also went for the spot of Head Girl," Malfoy answered. Rose nodded. That made sense. If Daisy would've become Head Girl, Rose would dislike her as well, even though Daisy was nice enough.

"Ah, okay, I can understand that," Rose said and she sighted. Maybe it was time now. They seemed peaceful enough, now would be the perfect time for an apology.

"Look, Malfoy. I really do want to apologise. For everything, you know, for real. I didn't mean it when I said "I'm sorry" before and I think I didn't even realised it by then. And you saved me from Joe just now, while you didn't had to and while you still dislike me. I'm really sorry about what happened to your dad. I can ask my family for help? Not my dad of course, he would love to hear that your family is in trouble," Rose said, she smiled softly. This would be a good enough peace offer, right?

"Thank you for that, but you don't have to do that," Malfoy said after a while.

"I'm also sorry for being tactless, but I think it's because you make me kinda nervous," Rose admitted. She might not have drunk as much alcohol as Joe did, but she did had some and somehow it turned her now into someone who tells all her secret at the one person she really shouldn't tell them to.

"Nervous?" he smiled amusingly, "why though?"

"Why? Because...you're like...the last person I would talk to. You're way to popular to be actually talking to me. I'm more of a person who talks to her books. Plus, you ditch girls really fast, so, yeah, that makes me nervous," Rose said with a blushing smile on her face. Why did she tell him all of that?

"No I don't do that!" he exclaimed.

"Ooooh, okay, so you're actually thinking about having a next date with Daisy, aren't you?" Rose said, Scorpius opened his mouth, closed it again and discovered she trapped him.

"Yes...I am?" he answered eventually.

"Liar!" Rose grinned and Scorpius started laughing soon enough with her.

"Friends? I think it makes everything much easier. You know, the Head stuff and with Sophia and Sean, too," Rose said and she offered her hand.

"Friends,"  Scorpius accepted.
