As we walked quickly out of sight, Rae then asks, "Is your neck doing fine?"

"Y-yes." I replied, even though it wasn't. It burned like hell right now, aching with every step we took. However, I wasn't concerned of that. Deep in my mind, I was thinking about them; Matt and Remember. The intense military fight that is still going on, just almost half a kilometer away from us.More gunfire's, explosions and screams from the dying echoes behind us. It truly was like a battlefield.

And we were running away from it- Especially me.

I was only 12. Why did I have to be so young, hopeless, and most of all: Useless.

All I could do before I left was watch and say a sad goodbye to Matt and Remember. And I've left them to fight off Professor Grant's group, even though they've probably ambushed us for one reason: Me. That's when I realized how guilty I was. Here I was, running away from a fight that was indirectly supposed to be targeted at me.

That's when another thought hit me; Not only that, but I didn't even say goodbye to Remember.

Soon, my paranoia was getting the better of me. What if he was in trouble? What if they're in trouble right at this very moment? What if they've lost? Or worse: What if they've died?

And it'd be my entire fault.

With that last thought in mind,I wheeled around, running back to where the action was. Back to help Remember and Matt.

Rae immediately notices what I was doing and turns too.

"HEY!" She yells, running to catch up. "You're going the wrong way!"

But I ignored her. Right now, my mind was focused on the task ahead. There was no way I was going to pussy out from a fight.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

A few minutes later, I then decided to continue on but undercover. From this point on, I was nearing the battlegrounds. A havoc of scrap and rubble littered the landscape. worn bicycle tires, broken glass, trashed beds, yellowed newspaper, all scattered amid of a pile of more junk, bricks and slabs of cement. Finding some rusted sofas nearby, I quickly ducked in one of them, and began to crawl my way through.

"Rima!" An angry voice whispers aloud from my back. "What on earth do you think you're doing?! You're going to get cau-"

A loud explosion beside us makes her stop. Dust floated around us, but I ignored it. A few minutes later, I found a car with cracked windows close by, and decided to hide there instead. And from this point on, I was watching the whole show, from beginning to the end. A not so happy ending.

Matt was in a farther distance, hiding behind a large refrigerator which was on its side. He begins sniping some of the soldiers that was attacking Remember. But hardly any of them noticed, since they're only guess could be Remembers doing.

And among the soldiers himself, was Mr., Mr. Chantell leading the whole group of soldiers. He seemed relaxed, confident of winning over the lone zombie.

Disappointment rose within me. Why, Mr. Chantell....?

Almost none of them noticed Matt (or can even find him). So he was pretty much safe.

However, there where two people beyond the battlefield that I couldn't stop looking at; one was Matt, sniping few of the oblivious soldiers. The other--more of my focus was on Remember. The situation he was in was far more difficult to handle.

It was a full out battle now. There were 10 times the number of action then there was before. Tons to thousands of bullets and missiles were being thrown at him. Soldiers from all direction surrounded Remember (plus, the tank as well). Not only that, but it influenced Remembers movements and sense of direction too. With almost every step or move he made, surely it would trigger a mine or an explosive assuch. So far from when I started watching, 2 mines had been triggered by the zombie. Luckily though, he still lived.

Blood was drooling down his left arm and the side of his head. A huge cut was on his right leg, letting red leak all over it. His arms and legs was covered with uncountable scars and bruises, which worried me sick. And with every move he took, I would feel my heartbeats grow faster and faster. I was scared-worried of Remember. Will he be ok?

"Squad 4 and 27 to all units!" Mr Chantell yells to a certain group of men. "Open combat!"

Just as Remember evades other thousands of gun fires, he launches himself towards the tank, claws at the ready. He was planning to knock out the military vehicle first.

Yet somehow, they anticipated this to happen. Mr. (who was standing right by the tank) quickly points at the murderous ghoul and yells out, "NOW!"

At that moment Remember quickly stops, but it was too late. Before he even knew what was happening, a harpoon-like weapon attached with a rope is shot towards him from the tank's main gun. Seeing this, Remember tries to avoid it, yet wasn't able to by being too close in range. A second later the spear goes jabbing straight in his left leg, digging deep into his dead flesh.

He yelps, falling onto the floor in vain. I covered my mouth to prevent screaming. Oh no.

He looked as if in a lot of pain; Real pain. As in something that zombies are said to never feel nor experience. This was the first time actually seeing a zombie feel. And yet, it looked so...so real.

Yet the soldiers looked pleased, as if they've accomplished their objective. Mr. then takes out a walkie- talkie and says to it, "Experiment No: 16 found and fully intact. Preparation for capture sequence is complete. Capture target, now."

Capture????

Just then, I caught sight of the helicopter zooming in to the scenery. Remember sees this too, and looks panicked. He had to escape.

Shivering madly (from the amount of blood he has lost), he uses his large skeleton hands to help and begins to crawl his way out. Heaven in his agonizing state, he struggles, dragging his body away from both the tank and helicopter, desperate to escape by a force beyond his control. Now with his hand doing all the walking, he seemed to grow in even more pain with every rough pull he makes.

His eyes are squinted in vain. Blood drools down a corner of his mouth. He shudders and spasms a bit, but still continues to move.

Gritting his teeth, he continues on like this until a person in a military uniform spots him. He then realizes what Remember was attempting to do and quickly calls to the others,

"Sir, the target is resisting!"

Mr. Nods and turns to the tank. "Draw back, tank 4."

And with that, the tank begins backing up, hoping to stop the ghoul from escaping as well. However, Remember didn't. Remember still manages to keep pulling himself away from the troops. Noticing what they were planning to do, he adds even more strength and effort to his claws, digging his bloody claws into the soft grounds too.

The military vehicle then had to use more force as well. It was now like a tug-and-war game, between zombie and vehicle, with Professor Grant and his military group against just 1 Remember.

But Remember wasn't the type to give-up: Neither was the tank.

At one point, Mr. had to motion a stop sign at the controller of the tank.

"Stop." He says calmly, "We want to capture number 16 alive and as whole. Ripping his leg off may result in dangerous consequences."

He then turns to nod at a sniper beside him.

The sniper then reveals his DESERT-CAMO sniper rifle and loads a few darts in. Once finished, he then aims it at the injured ghoul. One eye peering through the scope, he steady's the gun and shots. Unfortunately it makes a direct hit, poking right into Remembers shoulder.

He gasps, as if suddenly being overcome by numbness. But still, he keeps moving onward. My eyes then looked closer to realize that they weren't just ordinary darts; They were sedatives.

That's when another hits him. Now looking even more exhausted then he was before, he finally gives up. Now being possessed by the injected chemical, all Remember could do was lie there, with only an expression of pain in his face-yet, he still try's to hold it inside.

As for me, all I can do was stare in shock. I couldn't believe what just happened. What Remember had struggled for, endured and had to go through-just to end up getting nowhere.

And especially at me, for doing nothing.

I then found myself standing up and quickly rushing towards him. I had to help him. I had to save him!

Suddenly, a hand grabs me from behind, pulling me back to where I hid. And just before I could yelp another hand cups my mouth. Now feeling panicked, I turned only to see Rae though. She too, had a horrified look.

"Don't." She hushed harshly. "We shouldn't attack yet."

"B-BUT REMEMER-"

"I know," Rae whispers calmly. "But don't forget Matt, Rima."

She then released me. I managed to nod, tears forming in my eyes. Now facing back to the ambush scenery, Remember still remains exhausted, hardly able to move. The helicopter then soars over Remember, casting a shadow over him. Once that happens, Mr. Then stated, "Launch capture sequence."

At that moment, a wide net then drops from under the flying vehicle. I watch, flabbergasted, as closes on him, landing completely over Remember--subduing him inside the brown ropes, the boy I first befriended in my long journey, my companion.

He hiss and roars defiantly, but the net only tightens further. With the inal cry of frustration and defeat, he falls to the floor, thrashing weakly. Trapped in a living hell.

It was no use. He was trapped.

How could one simple net capture him? I wondered, but looked closely to then realize that it wasn't just any ordinary thrown net. They must've had weights or something heavy attached to the nets.

Plus, it was an electrical net. Even the tank itself, had to quickly eject its harpoon a split second before the net could cover its target.

Now entangled, Remember writhes to crawl out, but couldn't.

At that moment, the whole net flashes electrical sparks, emitting a bright light along with sizzling sounds. But Remember cries even louder, pain filling in my ears.

However out of nowhere an explosive then goes off, along with some other men. The rest looks in horror and confusion. But the leader (which was Mr.) remains perfectly mature. He then turns towards where Matt was hiding, eyeing that area suspiciously.

Oh no.

"You there!" He calls, making everyone freeze. "Come out and show yourself. Don't think I don't know where you are! I know where you're hiding."

An abrupt tense then runs down my spine.

No response. Although behind the tipped over refrigerator, I could picture a worried Matt, gripping his firearm tightly.

Still not daring to show himself, Mr. Chantell then ushers the group to approach Matt's hideout. As they all began walking cautiously over there, I knew that this was my chance-my chance to save Remember and Matt. Heck, maybe my only chance to save them.

Just as the last soldier draws his focus away from Remember, that's when I dove in to the scene. Coming out into the open, I quickly dashed over to Remember, how was still imprisoned within the terrible trap, As I approached him, Remember in the other hand looked both surprised and horrified to see me.

"Rima," He says aloud, eyes wide in shock. But another electric shock cuts him off, and it was back to the painful expression he shows on his face.

Seeing him like this up close made my eyes water. I couldn't stand watching him like this. However, I held them back, since right know, freeing Remember was the main task at hand.

"D-Don't worry." I replied, voice trying to sound calm, but shaky. "I-I'm going to get you out Remember."

But just as my hands touch the entangled ropes, a sudden spark zaps from beneath my hand. I yelped falling back, now with a burnt index finger.

Not only that, but in addition my surprised cry alerted someone else, adding in to the odds.

"So, you that lil' Rima girl." A voice says from behind me. I arched my head back to see who it was, but only to have a hand grab my arm harshly. I was screwed.

Another yelp escapes my throat, as I kicked and punched him. But it was no use. His hard grip refused to release me. At that moment, his other hand raises as well, revealing a syringe he held tightly. The same kind that Professor Grant and another soldier had back at the hospital, and the one that subdued Remember.

Eyes wide in horror, I was in full panic now.

"NOOO!" I screamed, continuing to struggle loose, even though it was no use. Soon enough, I would then experience the feeling of having a tranquilizer injected into me, feel the numbing pain that Remember felt right now and-

Out of nowhere a figure then appears right beside the man, holding a sword at the ready. It was Rae!

"Oh, I don't think so~" She whispers in his ear, sending a terrified look to spread all over his face. It was too late for him to react now. One second later, a sword goes piercing through his ribs, sending a squirt of blood to spray from behind his back.

Now having blood drooling down the corners of his mouth, Rae swiftly pulls out her bloody sword. And with that she abruptly tackles me behind a nearby truck right before another flash of bullets go shooting towards our way.

"Rae, I-"

"Shush!" Rae grumbles. "Now's not the time. Right now, we need to help the others. But not how you did it before, running into the open like that..."

Oops. I bit my lip with embarrassment.

"Look," She says, "I'll go distract then while helping Matt. You go straight on to your zombie friend once I've got those bastards full attention."

"B-But how will I know when you've-"

"Just stay here for a few seconds before coming out ok?"

I nodded, feeling both afraid and nauseous. My stomach churned, as nervousness grew within me. Will this plan work?

"Rima listen," Rae replied, as if reading my thoughts and feelings. "You're no longer a little kid anymore. You're now a young pre-adolescence, I know I can count on you. And no matter what, always be brave, young Rima."

Instantly I recognized those words. It was the same thing Professor Amy told me. The same thing that Matt had told me as well.

Rae had already jumped out of cover and ran over to assist Matt.

Stay here for a few seconds before coming out. Okay. Squeezing my eyes shut, I counted to 5 seconds. To 10. The violent sounds of gunfire's, screams and explosions continue beyond the hiding spot. I could feel the adrenaline rush begin to flow within my bloodstream.

And once I hit 30 seconds, I was out too, exposing myself to the open and sprinting towards Remember as fast as my legs could carry me. From the corner of my eye, I could see Rae and Matt handling the military people of Professor Grant. The helicopter (Where the vile Professor Grant was), was still hovering high above us. Probably noticed me, but I didn't care. Right now, saving Remember was my first priority.

Finally reaching to the trap he lays in, I examined the nets, hoping to find another way to pry open the nets. Unfortunately, none came to mind.

That's when something draws my attention. My eyes turn to gaze down upon that bright light too see a large shard of wood. It was somewhat bigger and longer then my arm. And, it looked preferably sharp. Strong enough to tear through any type of rope.

An idea then pops into mind. Carefully grasping the knife-like timber in my hand, I took a deep breath before placing it upon the center of the net. My hand began to shiver a bit, but I managed to harden my grip. Looks like I'm going to have to use this knife to cut open the cords.

Okay, this was it.

And in the next move, I sliced through the braiding twines, (Avoiding contact with Remember ) pulling it vertically towards my direction with one swift pull. Successfully, the twines split in half easily, as the metal goes diving through each piece of rope. My ears can hear the sound of knots ripping as my hand flinches a bit whenever it hits a cord.

In the end, the net was now fully opened, having a huge rip through the center. The electricity currents stop too, which made it even better.

Remember sees this as well, and begins to slowly crawl his way out of the entangled ropes. My hand drops the blade as I assist him.

A minute later he was finally out, kneeling unsteadily on the floor. Pushing the ropes away, I was so happy he was finally safe again. I couldn't help but hug him warmly, feeling my eyes tear up. I cuddled him, wrapping my arms warmly onto my chest, feeling him shivering still from the electric shock.

"Remember," I sobbed, finding myself shivering as well; Shaking with both fear and joy he was safe now.

Remember was even colder now, covered in blood, scars bruises and cold sweat. It stained my arms and outfit, but I didn't care. As long as we were both safe and sound.

Though not for long.

Remember starts to move, struggling to get up. My hands begin to loosen him.

I gasped. "R-Remember, a-are you ok-"

"Why are you here...?" Remember asks, voice barely a horse whisper. "R...Run..."

Out of nowhere a shadowy figure appears behind us both. My head wheels around, only to see another guard. And in both of his hands, was a syringe.

Staring in mortal terror, I abruptly began backing up, just as he moves forward to attack. And a split second before the kill, I closed my eyes praying for a miracle to happen.

Oddly enough, a miracle does happen.

My arms suddenly lost grip on Remember, and a minute I hear a shocked cry. Opening my eyes with caution, I then see Remember on the man, as he tackles the soldier down.

Now kneeling on top of the man, Remember raises his hands and finishes him off, with his claws stabbing straight through the man's ribs. And there was another squirt of blood, yet another dead soldier.

A small victory cry cheers in my mind. Remember saved me. But more importantly, he was safe! But not for long.

In a split second later, Remembers eyes suddenly grow wide in shock. His eyes were still attached to the dead mans, just as a shiver runs down my spine.

What was wrong?

That's when I see Remember rise, slowly and unsteadily. Now in full height, at that moment I could see, what had happened to him. My expression changes, rom relief to horror as well.

A syringe was stabbed, one in his guts and the other on his leg. They were the exact two syringes, one's which the man was holding. Even worse: They were fully emptied, meaning....

Now's looking even more agitated, Remember raises a trembling hand and painfully unplugs both injections out. He simply tosses them aside, right before he falls down again.

"R-Remember!" I cried, quickly catching his fall. Thank god he was still able to sit up, at least. Sitting sort of legs crossed, both our eyes draw to the two empty tranquilizer darts. Holy shit, that was a lot. This was more anesthetic than what anyone could handle, despite living or infected.

Yet, he was still able to remain conscious.

That made me wants to cry even more. However I couldn't, especially not now.

"Rima!" A voice calls out of the blues. Turning to the yell, I then see Matt, surrounded by a few of Professor Grant's soldiers now (having most of them killed). But where was Rae?

"RIMA RUN!" Matt shouts, "RUN QUICKLY, BE-"

Suddenly a figure appears behind him, stopping him short. It was Mr.

Matt realizes this too, but wasn't able to react fast enough this time. As if predicting Matt's movements, Mr. dodges Matt's back punch easily and in 2 seconds flat has both Matt's hands entrapped behind him and a knife at his throat.

This makes Matt freeze, along with a look of fear. Cold sweat rolls down his forehead, just as Mr. slowly begins pressing the blade on his neck, forming a faint cut. He then mutters something in his ear: Most likely a death threat, though we couldn't hear it. Matt gulps, nodding slowly.

Yet just before we could help him, another figure pops up in front of them, standing just a few meters away. In front of me and Remember, was a man lifting a huge rocket-like weapon, supported by his shoulder. And the rocket's direction was pointed straight at us, ready to fire.

My whole body moves back, ready to run but it was too late.

A moment later he shoots, releasing something big enough to knock the man himself back as well. A huge purplish round object goes zooming towards us, somewhat fast. However it wasn't a bullet. Halfway the fire then opens to reveal a spider-like web, heading straight towards me, though faster this time.

I couldn't dodge it now. A whimper escaped from my throat, as I continued to back away, even though it was no use. Any moment now, the trap will devour me and....

But instead, something else happens-Something far more terrifying then the launched weapon itself. It was Remember, who was beside me who takes a leap forward in front of the net; And as he did this, he was protecting, me as well.

Eyes wide in horror, I watched what was next. I saw it all; A second later it hits Remember, subduing him (just like the last thrown net) as he goes tumbling roughly to the cold, bare sandy floors.
