The entire field was packed. I was surrounded by people decked out in our school colours of black and blue and on the bleachers opposite me, people were decked out in red and green. I found myself wondering what the hell I was doing at a football game when I didn't understand the sports or the excitement behind it. Put me in a soccer game and we're good, I'd be able to tell what was happening, heck I'd probably even admire the players, but football was a whole other ball game.
I hadn't been to one in two years and despite the fact that both my brothers played the sport (Ethan being on the varsity team that were playing now) and James on the junior division I wasn't clued in on the sport's inner workings.
I sigh and look to my left where I can see Joey and Leo sitting, both of them were playing on their phones. Typical. My own cell phone was clutched tightly in my hand, I was waiting for the text message to signal when I should move. Lana was sitting in front of me a wide grin on her face as she talked to her friends and I shook my head with a small smile. No one would suspect that she had just come out of the girls' changing rooms where the cheerleaders were currently changing. If all goes to plan than today's cheerleading performance was going to be...interesting to say the least.
The cheerleaders from both teams filed out shouting out encouraging words to boost the crowd's enthusiasm. I grit my teeth in annoyance as their cheers become louder. The game hadn't even started yet and I wanted to wring their necks, they were so bloody annoying...though that just may be the nerves talking. Our football team ran out onto the football field soon afterwards. They were wearing dark blue shirts with a black tiger in the centre and white pants. With their helmets on it was hard to tell apart who they were, especially since I wasn't familiar with the football players aside from Brad and Ethan of course. I knew Ashton was somewhere in the team too but I didn't know what number he was so it was pointless trying to look for him.
I guess it goes without saying that our football team was called the Tigers. They were versing one of the other private schools, St Claus. Since this was the first game of the season there were posters all over the school so that the Tigers would have student support. I wasn't completely clueless when it came to the Academy's sporting events. The crowd is cheering loudly now and my grip on my phone tightens. I had no one I could talk to while I waited for my cue, I was the loner, I couldn't exactly strike a conversation with the random people around me. I should've asked Juliette while I had the chance but I didn't want her to find out about the plan just yet. I sigh, my spirits dropping as I watch the players throw around an oval ball as a warm up, the rival team doing the same thing. The game starts soon after and the boys are off.
My eyes shoot back to the cheerleaders dressed in mini skirts and short sleeved shirts. One cheerleader in particular caught my eye, her red hair standing out and drawing attention to her. I smirk slightly as I see her wiggle uncomfortably in her clothes, scratching at her back. I sneak a glance at Leo to see him pretending to record the game even though he was making sure to focus on Justine's jerky movements. He catches me looking and winks before directing his attention back to his phone.
I don't pay attention to the game and tune out the various groans and cheers coming from my peers as I stare at Justine. They were only really jumping around to keep warm right about now, shouting some nonsense about team spirit. Or at least her team was, Justine was too busy jumping sporadically while scratching here and there. I can only imagine how'd she go when they decided to do the human pyramid at half time.
After fifteen minutes, the first quarter ended and I slumped in my seat, only fifteen more minutes and then this will all be worth it. When half time comes around the cheerleaders take centre stage while the players recieve a pep talk from their coach. I don't even realise that I've zoed out until my phone buzzes and I quickly head over to the concession stands that had been set up near the field. I answer my phone admist a crowd of St Claus students.
"Hello?"
"Isabelle, meet me behind the bleachers, you know where right?" Damian speaks quickly and softly and I nod before realizing he can't see me.
"Yeah I know where. Give me five minutes" I quickly purchase a chocolate bar so I don't look suspicious before heading to the St Claus bleachers. I shed off the blue and black scarf I have on and exchange it for my red and green one. I quickly blend into their crowd and I sigh in relief, power walking to the bleachers.
Damian was standing hunched over when I reached him. I wasn't surprised to see that he was wearing his usual leather jacket and jeans, his combat boots tying the whole bad boy look together. Funnily enough whether he wanted to admit or not, he was dressed in school colours. He quickly grabs my hands and together we stumble through the junk under the bleachers until we reach the corridor that leads to the changing rooms. It was just a small building with a boys and girls changing rooms for easy changing on days like this.
I breathe in a deep breath trying to calm myself down and recite the plan over and over in my head. We couldn't afford for anything to go wrong, I had to make sure that I didn't mess this up for all of us.
"I'll stand on guard and distract anyone that tries to come in and you try to hurry up with the dye okay?" he asks patiently and I nod. He smiles softly at me, squeezing my shoulder in comfort and I smile in response. Is it that obvious that I'm freaking out right about now? I take another gulp of air before walking inside the room.
"Holy crap" I mutter as I'm hit with the smell of several strong perfumes, I cough in discomfort and fight through the dizzying smell towards the lockers. There weren't any locks on these, thank goodness it just made my job easier. I reach into my purse and pull out the small bottle before finding her locker.
I dig through Justine's things looking for the shampoo bottle, upon finding it I smirk. Bye bye red-head.
I dump the contents of the bottle in my hand into her shampoo bottle and after a couple of minutes, I've packed up her stuff into the exact way it was before. I race out of the changing room and am surprised to see Damian sucking faces with one of the cheerleaders. Well, that's not what I expected his form of 'distraction' to be. My eyes widen dramatically and I freeze in my steps unable to move like some sort of idiot. Damian's eyes snap open at the moment and he quickly shifts his eyes to the door a silent way of telling me to get the hell away. Biting my lip I quickly rush outside, making sure that there aren't any other team members hanging around. Gah, I'm such an idiot! Who even stands there watching people make out?
Unfortunately I don't get very far before a hand is wrapped around my arm and pulling me against a very built chest. Gasping in surprise I tilt my head up praying that it isn't who I think it is. When I notice the grey eyes peering into mine I almost collapse in relief.
"Dammit Ashton you scared me!" I whisper, I was almost highly conscious of the fact that his hands were either side of my head barricading me against the brick wall of the building. I curse mentally as I realize that not only am I trapped but that he saw me here, of all places. He was bound to be suspicious.
"What are you doing here Ice Queen?" he mutters and it's like a switch has been flipped because instead of feeling scared I was incredibly angry. Placing my hands against his chest, fingers splayed I shove him. I'm not surprised when he doesn't budge an inch and instead smirks condenscendingly.
"None of your business, now let me go! Don't you have a game to be playing or something?" His eyebrows quirk up and he leans closer.
"I'm not playing right about now, besides I'm more interested in the fact that you slipped away from the game with Damian" Shit! I try not to give anthing away and maintain my cool facade as he keeps talking.
"I didn't know you two had a thing. Poor Brad" His eyes glint and my own eyes widen out of shock. No...he couldn't have...could he?
"I don't know what you're talking about. But if you'll excuse me I have game I want to be watching"
I run out of there and lean against the wall once I'm under the covers of the bleachers. I can feel myself blushing furiously and I shudder as I think of why Ashton brought up Brad. He couldn't know and I really don't want to talk about what happened again. Shaking those thoughts out my head I hurry towards the concession stands. Once there I take in the empty lines and I know that half time's over. Swapping my scarves once again I walk back to my seat after buying a can of coke. If I was going to endure half an hour more of this torture I may as well have some sustenance.
The crowd was buzzing with laughter and gossip when I got back, Justine was nowhere to be seen and Leo's phone was back in his pocket so I assumed that things went to plan. I smile to myself as I take a drink of coke, it's about time Justine got a taste of her own medicine. I shake my head clear of thoughts just in time to hear the announcer scream.
"AND that's a touch down by the Lakeview Acadmey's very own Ashton Knight!" I freeze in my seat as everyone screams in ecstasy. The game was over and Lakeview had won, thirty to seven. But that wasn't what made me freeze, no I was stunned by the grey eyes looking into mine.
Ashton sends me a wink and smug smirk before racing over to his teammates to join in on their celebrations. The girls around me swoon thinking that he was winking at them and I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion wondering what the hell that look even meant. I didn't even know that Ashton was actually a good football player but with the arrogance that surrounds him I can't say I'm surprised. Looks like he's cemented his place in the Academy's elite.
I walk down the bleachers avoiding screaming girls and tired parents. I was eager to just go home but I see Juliette standing at the railing outlining the field and I smile before heading over to her. She couldn't make it to the game earlier because she was skyping with her parents in France somewhere and because of the time differences she could only really talk to them then. A smile lights her face when she sees me and she pulls me into a bear hug. We talk quietly as we wait for Ashton to come out of the changing rooms and when she gets distracted by his arrival I look down at my phone to see a text message from Leo.
Video Uploaded, now we just wait and see.
