Clarke ran back to her tent and slipped inside.
Oh God Oh God Oh God!
What had she done?
How could she have been so stupid?
She lay quietly down next to Octavia and wrapped her arms desperately around her.
She tightened her grip.
She loved Octavia.
Bellamy was a temptation.
A trial she had to pass in order to be worthy of the beautiful girl in front of her.
She had failed.
But God did it feel good to fail.
She remembered his lips on her own and a shudder ran through her whole body.
"You okay baby?" Octavia asked through the veil of sleep.
Clarke falsified a smile.
"I had a bad dream." She whispered.
She felt sick to her stomach, lying to Octavia. But she would never forgive her, and there was no way she was losing Octavia over one kiss. Even if the thought of it did make her toes curl.
"Come here." Octavia said sympathetically.
She pulled Clarke into her arms, spooning her comfortingly.
Clarke could feel Octavia's heartbreak- strong and steady- through her back.
Clarke began to cry silently.
She didn't suspect a thing.
***
Bellamy Blake had stormed into the forest for some fresh air.
The sun was almost up now and he was marching angrily through the woods.
How could she do that?
How could he do that?
He shook his head.
He and Clarke had something magnetic.
It was spiritual, not practical.
He would never deliberately hurt his sister but man Clarke was making it hard.
She had said that she wanted him, but couldn't.
He knew then that she was a good person who had made a mistake, while he was the ass that imposed the mistake onto her.
He thought of his baby sister, lying in the arms of the girl he wanted.
His blood boiled.
With rage, jealously, lust.
He couldn't fathom how he could want something and not want something at the same time.
Guilt filled him.
He screamed, loudly for a moment, letting his frustrations flow onto the wind.
Taking another step forward, Bellamy spilled over, his foot slipping on a loose rock.
He fell a short while down a hill and into a small river.
He screamed again, this time with a long string of curses accompanying it.
***
Clarke Griffin woke to the sound of screaming.
She shook Octavia.
"You hear that?" She asked carefully, forgetting for a moment what happened the night before.
"That's Bellamy!" Octavia exclaimed, running out of the tent.
Worry hit Clarke's gut, and she suddenly remembered what had happened last night.
'I can't'
The words felt like they were being ripped from her gut.
She couldn't.
She couldn't lose the only person who had ever loved her.
But the thought that maybe Bellamy was hurt now, was enough to make her run.
***
Bellamy was fading in and out of consciousness when Clarke and Octavia found him.
Octavia cussed. (A trait that must run in the family)
And knelt down beside her brother.
"Bell?" She whimpered.
Clarke moved in.
He had an obvious but not fatal head wound, more prominently he had a broken arm. There was heavy bruising and swelling.
"We need to get him out of here." Clarke stated, her voice evidently worried.
"He's gunna be fine thought, right Clarke?" Octavia pleaded.
Clarke forced a smile.
"If we get this big lug out of here, he'll be fine." She joked.
The girls grabbed half of Bellamy each and carried him toward camp.
He began to protest, in a subconscious slur.
"Shhh. Shhh. Shhh." Clarke settled.
"We got you."
***
Bellamy Blake awoke to a pair of ice cold hands on his face.
He opened his eyes, and though his vision was fuzzy he could plainly see Clarke Griffin's silhouette standing before him.
"Couldn't get enough ayy?" He joked, coughing.
Clarke made a displeased sound in the back of her throat.
"Quiet." She warned.
"Where's Octavia?" He asked, blinking as his vision returned to normal.
"She went to boil some water for you." Clarke said professionally.
Bellamy felt an ache in his chest, that was not from the fall.
"Clarke I'm sorry... not that it happened... but that I caused you pain and..." Bellamy began, but Clarke cut him off.
"No Bellamy." She asserted, she was wrapping gauze around his head now.
"You don't get to say anything. You have nothing to lose here." She lamented.
Bellamy looked at her confusedly.
"My sister. My responsibility." He whispered, his eyes glassy.
"What?" Clarke asked; worried he had a concussion.
"Clarke I raised her." He whimpered.
"I raised her. I'm the only thing she has left in the way of family and I betrayed her." He began to sob.
Clarke instinctively pulled him into her arms.
He winced but was grateful for her touch.
He had a sling on his arm.
He had woken with it.
Clearly Clarke was very smart.
She pulled away to look at him.
A boy so broken by love that he didn't know how to deal with it.
"This is not you fault." Clarke whispered.
Bellamy laughed incredulously.
"I kissed you Clarke. It's my fault." He admitted.
The sound of the water bowl dropping rung through the room.
Octavia screamed as some boiling water splashed against her.
She cussed.
"What did you just say?" She scowled, cradling her burnt arm.
"O I can explain." Clarke whispered.
Octavia looked back and forth between the two of them.
Her eyes growing wider as she realised how blind she had been.
"How long?" She demanded.
"O..." Bellamy began.
"How long have you been screwing my girlfriend Bell?!" She shouted.
Clarke moved forward.
"O we're not having sex." She admitted.
"He kissed me. Once. He was drunk it meant nothing." Clarke stated rapidly.
Octavia was silent.
"Please let me look at that burn." She whispered.
Octavia held her arm out to Clarke, she was eyeing Bellamy cruelly.
"Come sit down, I'll bandage it up." She said calmly.
Octavia sat on the only other bed in medical and let Clarke bandage her wound.
"O... I..." Bellamy began.
"SHUT IT BELLAMY!" Octavia shouted at him.
"O..." Bellamy said again, trying to stand.
Clarke turned to tell him off... just in time to see him hit the floor.
"Bellamy!" She exclaimed, abandoning Octavia's wound.
She moved toward him, turning him to lie flat on his back.
"Bellamy talk to me." She demanded.
She pinched his arm. Painful stimulus. Nothing.
"Bell come on." She pleaded.
Octavia was beside her now, watching the girls face.
She used to look at her like that.
She shut her eyes and tears ran down her face.
She had lost Clarke and she knew it.
"Bellamy!" Clarke screamed, tears in her eyes.
She hit him once, hard in the chest.
The boy flung forward, gasping horribly.
Clarke steadied him, she held his arm with both hands.
"Can you get up?" She asked him.
He nodded and she put him back into bed.
"What happened?" Octavia asked.
"He probably has a concussion. One of us should probably stay awake with him for the next 24 hours so that he doesn't fall asleep and do more damage." She explained.
Octavia smiled sadly.
"It should be you Clarke." She admitted.
"O please don't do this." Clarke whimpered.
"I know you. Clarke. I can see it in your eyes. How you feel about him. I would be pathetic if I continued to be with you." She said, no longer angry, but sad.
"Finish up my bandage and I'll leave." She said softly.
"O..." there were tears in Clarke's eyes.
She knew she was right.
She cared about Bellamy and was desperate to explore that.
But the thought of losing her forever made her heart skip a beat.
Clarke silently took to fixing Octavia's bandage.
Once it was finished Clarke held tightly to the uninsured part of Octavia's arm.
"I don't wanna lose you." She whispered.
Octavia smiled sadly, getting off of the bed and walking toward the door.
She turned to Clarke, a tear on her cheek.
Clarke desperately ached to wipe it away. To comfort her, the way she has done a million times.
"You already have." Octavia said, disappearing around the corner.
Clarke let herself cry.
Bellamy watched, totally helpless as she sobbed.
He moved to comfort her, but she just scalded him for getting out of bed.
She sat in the rickety chair beside his bed and didn't say a word for hours.
She only poked him when she thought he was falling asleep.
As if he could fall asleep with everything that has happened.
It was 2 hours before she spoke again.
"I'm a monster." She whispered, tears spilling down her face.
"No Clarke..." Bellamy began, sitting upright,
"You're not."
She sobbed.
"I'm horrible." She whispered.
Bellamy pulled her into him with his good arm.
"If you need forgiveness..." he began, as Clarke pulled away to look at him,
"I'll give that to you. You're forgiven okay?" He admitted.
Clarke couldn't take it anymore.
She grabbed him by the shirt collar and kissed him, passionately.
He gasped against her lips, but soon fell into the kiss.
"Okay." She whispered against him.
Bellamy smiled.
"Okay."
