February 15th, 1959. 12:49 am. Springfield, Illinois Airport

Buddy, Dion (and his Belmonts), Waylon and I couldn't get a flight for after the show back to New York, so we all decided to get a hotel and just leave tomorrow.

"It was super great meeting you all!" I smile, hugging Ritchie.

"Aw, Vi, you're super great, I'm glad we met." Ritchie says.

I pull away from him and turn to Bopper. "It was really great to meet you."

Bopper smiles. "You too, Vi. You're a pretty chic gal."

"We gotta do more stuff together, y'all are real talented." Buddy says, shaking Bopper's hand.

"Yes, 'course, I'll make sure to call." Bopper nods.

"Well, y'all gotta go get on the plane, yeah? Be careful, don't die." Buddy laughs.

Bopper and Ritchie laugh aswell. "We'll try not to." Ritchie shakes his head.

"Okay, well, I'll see you later!" I smile.

Bopper and Ritchie turn and head to their terminal. If I'm honest, I don't know where either of them live currently.

We manage to find a hotel near the airport and we check in. Buddy, Waylon and I to a room and Dion and the Belmonts in the one next door.

"I have never, ever, been so excited to sleep in a bed. An actual bed." Waylon says, flopping down onto one of the beds.

"Same here." Buddy sits on the bed opposite of Waylon.

"I need to shower before I actually die." I say, ducking into the bathroom.

I figure out the shower and peel off my dirty clothes, stepping under the warm water. I quietly sigh.

September 7th, 1952. 4:32 pm. The Holley Household

"You must be Miss Violet!" Buddy's mom exclaims, pulling me into an unnecessarily tight hug. "You're so pretty!"

"Haha, um, thank you!" I say, trying to pretend that I'm not super uncomfortable.

"I can see why Buddy likes you!" We pull away.

"Mom!" Buddy says, his eyes going wide.

"Oh! Sorry, hun. I'll go fix somethin' up for y'all." She hurries back into what I assume is the kitchen.

I turn to Buddy. He's bright red. "Sorry 'bout that." He mumbles, putting his hands in his pockets.

"Oh, no problem. I understand. My mom is the same way." I hope he doesn't see through that lie.

"It's sorta embarassin'..." he looks up to me. "Well, you okay?"

"Aside from almost being crushed to death? Great." I smile

He smiles back. Is it bad that I think he's super cute?

"Uh, d'you wanna sit down?" He asks nodding towards the couch.

"Um, sure." I mutter. I feel so awkward.

We sit down and he looks at me. "Hey, so, uh, I know we haven't known eachother too long, but I-"

"Here, I made y'all some sweet tea and whore-deserves." Buddy's mom bursts in.

I cringe at her pronunciation of hors d'oevures. "Thank you, Mrs. Holley." I manage.

"No problem, Violet. Please, just call me Ella!" She sets down a tray. "You ever tried sweet tea?"

I shake my head. "No, can't say that I has. I mean have." God damn it, why can't I speak English!?

"Aw, you gotta!" Ella smiles, shoving her way between Buddy and I on the couch. "Y'all don't got sweet tea in Europe?"

"No, we don't really. Most of them are tea purists."

"Aww, c'mon sweetie, you gotta try some!" She grabs a glass and hands it to me.

"Uh, okay..."

Buddy looks over and me and smiles. "You don't gotta."

"Oh hush, she has to! She gotta be a true southerner!"

"She's not a southerner, though." Buddy cocks his head to the left.

"If y'all are gonna be together, she gotta try it atleast once!"

Buddy and I both turn bright red and look away from eachother.

"Mom, please don't..." Buddy mumbles.

I quickly sip the sickingly sweet tea, just to shoo away Ella.

"D'ya like it, Violet?" Ella smiles.

"Yeah," I force a smile. "It's good."

"Great! Well, I'm gonna leave y'all alone now. Make good choices." She stands up and leaves the room once again.

Buddy and I avoid eye contact.

"Happy birthday, by the way." I say after a few minutes.

"You've said that four times today." Buddy smiles.

"Well, has it been happy so far?" I ask.

"Yeah, lot better than my last ones." He looks over to me. "I'm real happy we're friends."

"Me too." I look at him back.

Should I kiss him?

No, I can't.

It's supposed to be the guy who makes the move.

He's so cute.

Jesus, I can't have a crush on this guy already. It's been a week!

But he's so cute...

"Uh, do you wanna go somewhere? There's a park not too far from here." He asks.

I nod. "Yeah, sure." I say, standing up.

He stands up aswell and we head out the door.

I really want to hold his hand...

After a while of walking and talking, I feel Buddy grab my arm and stop walking. I turn to him.

"Doll, we turn here." He laughs.

I can't help but realize that he called me doll and hasn't let go of my arm yet. My eyes flick from his face to his hand and he quickly lets go.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean..."

"No, it's okay. Really, I don't mind."

"Oh...well, the park is this way." He says, pointing to the left.

"Allons-y." I laugh.

"What's that mean?" He asks, starting to walk in the direction.

I catch up to him. "It means 'let's go'." I really wish we were holding hands right now.

"Oh, cool. Is it fun knowin' more than one language?"

"It's useful, I guess. Sometimes I can't remember words in one language so I have to sort of talk through it." I feel his hand brush mine and my breath hitches. "Um, sometimes I mix the two together."

"I noticed you have once or twice."

"Avec words like...wait, I just did it. With words like... like, well, with and...and." I raise my eyebrows. "Sorry, I'm stupid."

"No, you're actually pretty smart." He smiles.

"Thanks." I can't help but to smile. "You're pretty smart, too."

"Thanks." He looks at me.

I look back at him. I think about kissing him again.

God damn it.

Shut up, mind.

We walk into the park and we sit on a couple of swings.

"Hey, Buddy, can I tell you something?" I ask, swaying on the swing.

"Of course, you can tell me anythin'." He looks towards me.

"My parents aren't really my parents." I say, avoiding eye contact.

"Whaddaya mean?"

"Uh, I don't know my real parents."

"You're adopted?"

I nod.

"Oh, okay. How old were you when they took you in?" He asks.

"Nine."

"Hey, it's okay that you're adopted. My parents got stuck with me. Your parents chose you."

I smile. "I've never thought about it that way, Buddy. I always have just felt unwanted."

"I want you. I mean, as a friend. I want you as a friend."

"My parents aren't even from France. They're from England."

Buddy nods. "See? They went to an entirely different country to get you."

"I appreciate you, Buddy. That makes me feel better, honestly."

"You're a real great friend, Vi. I know we've known eachother for like a week, but you're real amazin'."

"Thank you, really. It means a lot."

I slowly zone back into the reality of the shower.

I finish washing my face and start to turn off the water.

Wait

Is that

Blood?!

I frantically try to locate the source of the blood.

Nose?

No.

Did I cut myself?

No.

Is it...

God damn it!

I just started my fucking period.

Well, atleast we're going to be home tomorrow.

I don't have any tampons or pads!

I'll make Buddy go buy some.

I reach out of the curtian and open the door, somehow not getting out of the shower.

"Buddy?" I call.

"Yeah?"

"Come here."

I hear him stand up from the bed and walk in.

"What's wrong, doll?"

I peek out from behind the shower curtian. "I just started my period." I frown.

"D'ya have anythin' for it?"

I shake my head. "Can you go get me some tampons?"

"Yeah, I think there was a 24/7 pharmacy down the street. I'll be right back."

I sigh and sit on the floor, leaning back onto the edge of the tub. No wonder I was cramping so badly for the past few days.

I contemplate getting out, getting into PJs and stuffing toilet paper in my panties or to wait it out in the shower.

I decide that I'll wait here in the shower and just shave while I wait. Thank God that the hotel provided a razor.

July 14th, 1954. 10:32 am. The Winter Household

"Buuuuudddddddy." I complain. "My tummy hurts."

"What's wrong, doll? Why's it hurt?"

I frown. I don't think we're at the 'I'm on my period, get me chocolate and pain killers right this second' stage yet. Maybe we are, but I don't know. "Nothing."

"Vi, please don't be mad," He starts. "But is it your period?"

I blush and nod.

"Aw, I'm sorry, doll. D'you want me to get you anythin'? Pain killers, candy, chocolate, food, anythin'?"

"Can you get me some tylenol and some water?" I ask, slowly curling into a ball.

"Yeah, of course. Where's the pills?"

"Juliet and I's bathroom in the mirror cabinet. White bottle, blue text."

"Be right back." He says as he opens my room door.

Eventually he comes back. I slowly sit up and he hands me the pills and a glass of water.

"Thanks, Buddy. You're the best." I smile, quickly taking the pills.

"D'you want me t'leave you alone?"

"No, please stay. I enjoy your presence."

He sits on my bed with me. "Okay, doll."

"I'm tired." I lay back down.

"Wanna nap?" He asks.

"Maybe." I roll onto my stomach and put my arms under my head.

He lays next to me, placing a hand on my lower back. "You have any interestin' facts?"

I wonder why he's asking that. "Um, let me think." I look towards him. "Did you know that Snow Lepords can't roar?"

"Nope, didn't know that."

"How about that Walt Disney voiced Micky Mouse for a while?"

"I did know that one."

"You suck!" I shove him. "Uh, Albert Einstien didn't fail math, but he did fail French?"

"Huh, always thought it was math that he failed."

"In the spirit of being miserable, did you know that orgasms are supposed to help cramps?"

He shakes his head. "Can't say I did know that. Did you know that I could supply you with pain relief?" He laughs.

I laugh too. "But, like, blood."

"I don't mind if you don't."

"Pain relief then a nap?"

"Sounds like a plan." Buddy says, pulling my face into his and kissing me.

2:19 pm

"I do admit," I stretch. "I feel significantly better."  I rub my eyes. "Just waking up from a good nap is the best feeling."

"Naps and 'cramp relief' seem to be a great cure."

I finish shaving and Buddy still isn't back. It feels like he's been gone for an eternity, but it's probably been five minutes. I'm not hairy by any stretch of the mind, which I'm thankful for. Even if I was, I'm ginger anyway. I'm way too lazy to keep up.

I hear a knock on the door. "Vi, got 'em." Buddy says.

I open the door once again and he sets the bag from the pharmacy on the counter by the sink.

I turn off the water and dry myself off as quickly as I possibly can.

I pull on my nightgown, put a tampon in, pull on my panties, and walk out of the humid bathroom.

"Are you okay, Vi?" Waylon asks, rasing an eyebrow.

"Uh, yeah, why?" I grab my hairbrush and sit on Buddy and I's bed.

"You're on your, uh, umm, lady days."

I roll my eyes. "Period, Waylon. I'm on my period. I've had one every month for ten years, I know how to handle it."

"It's weird to talk about..." Waylon looks out the window.

"It shouldn't be," Buddy chimes in. "Every woman has one. Dunno why it's so taboo."

I nod in agreement. "Yeah, exactly. Anyways, Waylon, hand me my purse, please."

Waylon gets up and grabs my purse from a chair, tossing it to me.

I open it, grabbing my anti depressants and some pain medication.

Buddy hands me his water bottle and I take the pills.

"Jeez, it's already two in the morn!" Waylon's eyes go wide.

I nod. "My sleep schedule is so messed up," I laugh "Even more than it wad before this tour.

"Mine too." Waylon replies. "Mine too."
