True Story

You were now intrigued. After all, Matt was known to just disappear when you, Jessica Brianna and him were lounging around.

"Oh? Please go on," you urged, wanting him to go quickly. He looked anywhere but your curious face.

"Um... well... it's an organization... up in the sky... and..." He droned, fidgeting in the metal seat. The trees swayed in the almost non-existent breeze, carrying the silence away from atmosphere. The black-haired male took a deep breath.

"Okay. I'm not actually alive, but I'm not dead either. Many would call us beings 'angels,' but we're the farthest thing from that. I guess you could call us modern-day reapers."

"Wait!" You shouted with a surprised look on your face, "you're not even human? Why didn't you tell us this!"

"Well, you would just brush it off or would freak out," Matt replied with a dead look in his eyes. "Now, you wanna hear my story or not?"

You chuckled with a smile. "Go on, young Padawan."

"What? Well, anyways this thing is, like, BIG up there. Now when you die you go up there as a free spirit. No one cutting your memories or any of that. Instead, you kinda end up in a purgatory of some sort. I... dunno what to really call it. It's not heaven and it's not hell."

"Then what is it?" You asked.

"Purgatory, like I said. But soon after you arrived, you're whisked away by a reaper. Now, these reapers don't really get out of the office and reap souls like they did back then. I think they stopped in the 1920's or something. I don't have the details on that. But now you're confined to a pretty large office that is a white block with the reaper."

"After that, you watch a documentary on your life. From your happiest moments to your most embarrassing, us reapers judge you. Now, most souls get to be reincarnated while the very few go to hell."

"What's hell like?" You blurted out, but quickly covered your mouth.

"I don't know, never been there before," he shrugged, "but all I know is that it sucks to be you if you're stuck there. I guess it's your interpretation of hell that really shapes it."

"Ah, cool. Keep going."

"Okay. Well, after we're done evaluating, you have the choice to be reincarnated and lose ALL your memories, or you can work for the Heavenly Organization and keep your memories; possibly making new ones! When I was alive... oh man, how long has it been! A few hundred years?"

"Wait, you're hundreds of years old?!" You questioned in surprise. He nodded.

"I know what you're going to say. I don't look a day over (age)!"

"Okay okay, I'm done recovering from my shock. Keep going."

"Alright then. So yeah. I work for the Heavenly Organization and stuff. Surprisingly, many people want to join H.O., so that's why everything's smooth within the large building. The reason you can't see it is because of the blanket. I call it 'mist' like in Percy Jackson, but yeah it's just called a blanket."

"Okay, but why're you here now?" You asked. He laughed nervously.

"Well, I forgot to mention a little thing. There's a thing called the Council of Gods, and they aren't seen by any reaper within the establishment. It was only until a little while ago since I've been working with Auna; one of the goddesses that is part of the council. She's the goddess of the moon and water."

"So one day I'm working as usual and working on some paperwork that was piling up in my apartment- it's here on earth and that's why I don't invite you guys over- I heard a knocking on my door and a bedraggled lady was standing in my doorway with a large mug of coffee in her hands. She had a crazy look in her eyes as we're just staring each other down, before she dug around in her pocket and gave me a small gemstone, which then exploded into a large packet. With a glare, she said one thing. 'Read.'"

"Now I freaked out when I realized that my body subconsciously started to flip the pages. My brain was wired to read the packet! And that's when I realized that she was a goddess. We reapers have no real powers. Only gods and demons have them. So yeah, she basically blackmailed me to work for her."

You nodded, trying to comprehend this all. So far, you learned that Matt was a modernized reaper that worked in some sort of office and is now on break with a goddess that seemed to have forced you to take care of characters that mistreated her.

"Wait... then how did the characters from Black Butler come alive?" You asked, everything finally clicking together in your head. He sighed.

"Oh man, this may be a little hard to explain but... let's just say that there are other universes out there, and they're probably from that. Space is big. Our universe is big. They're probably really far away, and only goddesses and gods can reach those places but it requires a lot of energy," he replied, rubbing the back of his neck. "That's not a very good explanation. But lady Auna hops from universe to universe for FUN. And it usually takes a lot of effort for other gods to do."

"So yeah. I dunno what they did to piss the lady off, but they must've done some pretty messed up shit. Although she's probably one of the most powerful goddesses out there, she's really sensitive which makes her different from all the gods. She acts human."

"So?"

"So she's more sensitive than others, and has an actual heart. Lady Auna is the only goddess that roams the earth freely for nothing that has to do with business. You can say that she slacks off a lot. Surprisingly, she hates water and prefers the land, and likes day more than night. A rebel, I must say? Well, now I'm roped in this game of follow the leader, and I guess I do her dirty work. I don't know how to get your friends back home but I do know that the packet I gave you is something."

"It does have something. I mean, I was the one that stole it!" Another irate voice piped in. Matt jumped, knocking over his chair as he stood up. You immediately knew that it was Auna, with her unnatural long, flowing hair and shining blue eyes. She had a mug that said "Freeze your Brain", which held steaming hot coffee. She also had a light green shirt and some jeans, a sweatshirt tied around her waist.

"Hello lady Auna," Matt said with a bow. She scoffed, and patted his head. You also noticed that she had very long fingernails. She then turned towards you.

"If you think you're the chosen one, think again (Y/n)." She deadpanned. You pursed your lips before letting out an exhausted sigh.

Great, I can't be important, you thought, slouching. She picked up the chair and set it back in place with a loud clang, before sitting down.

"Now, I know the packet looks like some kind of fantasy quest, no? Well, all you have to do is send, like, two people into H.O. and steal some supplies. I've done it before and never got caught. But if they get caught-" she paused, taking a sip of her coffee- "they're boned."

"Oh great, I'm just gonna send some of my friends out on a SUICIDE MISSION," you drawled. She shook her head.

"I wouldn't call it a 'suicide mission'; I guess it's more like  chance or something."

"Ah, I see. So... when am I suppose to do this? Like send the guys out or something," you asked.

"In about three months. I have to get more power, since earth weakens mine and I've been draining my powers with summoning coffee from Indonesia," she answered.

Matt just watched the two of you continue to talk, trying to understand what's happening. It was like he was just cast aside from the entire conversation. He shrugged and began to turn around, but Auna glanced behind her, and snapped at him.

"Where may you be heading?" She asked. Matt froze, before answering.

"To see Brianna." You perked up with a sly grin.

"Oh? Since when did you two start to hang out?" You teased. He whirled around, face a blushing mess.

"Since today!" He cried, running away. You and Auna exchanged glances, before she spoke up.

"Any chance you think he likes her?" She asked. You shrugged in reply.

"We may never know. Also, how long have you been listening to our conversation?"

"Since the first word spoken. By the way, the ice cream shop is great! I'll have to stop by again. Other than that-" she stood up- "I think it's time to go, no? You have three months to think about this."

The goddess turned and walked away, mumbling about her coffee supplies. You took your phone out, looking down. No new messages. You started to head home but was stopped with a hand placed on your shoulder.

Yelping, you spun around into a chest. Tilting your head up, you stumbled back in surprise.

"Hey (Y/n). Going home?" Brian asked with a smile. "May I accompany you back?"
