Nate
“What,” I exclaimed. “Brittney, you are not going to have an abortion.”
“Why the heck not,” she shouted.
“Because that baby isn’t just yours, it’s ours,” I said. “We can do it; we can
raise that baby.”
“What makes you think that, Nate,” she asked practically crying. “We’re in
high school, we have no money, and your mom’s going to flip when she finds
out.”
“We’ll figure something out,” I said.
“No, we won’t figure anything out because there’s nothing to figure out,” she
replied. “I’m sorry, Nate, but there’s no way that I’m going to get fat and ugly
and lose you.
“Please, Brittney,” I begged her, but she just shook her head. I looked to Kate
for help.
“Give us a minute,” Kate told me nodding her head towards the door. I left the
room still freaking out over what Brittney had said about getting an abortion.
Kate
“Brittney, take a moment to really think about what you’re saying,” I told her.
“I’ve though about it, Kate,” she shouted hysterically at me.
“Well, what’s the real reason you want an abortion,” I asked her seriously.
“I don’t want Nate to leave me and make me a single parent,” Brittney sobbed.
“Nate wouldn’t do that, he loves you too much,” I said.
“How can you way that,” she asked me wiping her eyes. “You don’t share his
thoughts; you have no idea what he will and won’t do!”
“I don’t,” I admitted. “At least don’t get an abortion, there’s other options. If
you think that the baby will ruin yours and Nate’s relationship then you can
give it up for adoption. But this is something you really need to talk about
with Nate. He is the father, he should be able to state his opinion.”
“But he won’t want me anymore,” she said shakily. “I’ll get fat and won’t be
able to do anything fun over the summer.”
“He won’t care,” I told her. “Again, he really does love you too much.”
“I think that I should talk to him about this,” Brittney said trying to stop the
tears from escaping her eyes.
“I think that’s the best idea,” I said. “i think that I’ll take Christian and we’ll
go back to my house. You can call me whenever if you need or want to talk to
me. Stay strong, I love you.” I gave her a hug before I left Nate’s room. I found
Nate in the living room talking to Christian.
“Is she okay,” Nate asked me as I entered the room.
“She wants to talk to you,” I said. He nodded his head while standing up.
“Christian and I are going to go to my house. Have Brittney text me once she
calms down.”
“K, see ya guys later,” he said before heading to his room.
“Actually, can we go over to my house? My mom wanted us to sit down and
hang out for a bit,” Christian asked.
“Works for me, but I might pass out on your bed. I’m so exhausted,” I said
around a yawn.
“That’s fine,” he said wrapping his arm around my shoulders. “I think my mom
wants to talk to me mainly about what happened the other day.”
“Oh, if i was your mom I would want to, too,” I said with a small smile playing
on my lips. “I never asked, or at least I think I never asked, but what happened
to your dad?”
“Kate, I really wish I could tell you, but... I just can’t,” Christian said sadly.
“Christian, I don’t want to push you, but I feel like it’ll make you feel better if
you just let it out,” I told him as we walked to his house.
“I’ll tell you later tonight,” he said quietly.
“Okay, but don’t go all depressed on me,” I said.
“Sorry, I can’t help it. Every time I think about what happened it’s like I go
back to that day...” he trailed off sadly.
I stopped and turned to give him a hug.
“It’s okay,” I told him.
“No, it’s not,” he replied. “Kate, I can’t keep acting like a baby about what
happened to him. I can’t tear up every time someone asks me who my dad is.”
“It’s okay, let’s at least make it back to your house before we get sick,” I said
grabbing his hand and dragging him the rest of the way to his house.
Nick
I smiled down at the sleeping form of Sarah. I knew it was weird to just sit
there and stare at her while she was sleeping, but I could help myself. My
phone buzzed and I looked down to see who it was. It was a text message
from Nate:
You’ll never guess what I just found out:) [N@+3]
What??? >N!ck<
I’m going to be a dad!!!:) [N@+3]
Really? That’s awesome:) >N!ck<
Brittney doesn’t think it’s awesome:( [N@+3]
Why not??? >N!ck<
She thinks that I won’t want her anymore and that we won’t be able to raise
a baby [N@+3]
What? That’s ridiculous! >N!ck<
I know I think that it has something to do with her mom. I gotta go we’re
going to have dinner together. Cya:)
Bye, congrats:) >N!ck<
“Who was that,” Sarah asked groggily.
“Nate,” I told her. I gave her a kiss on the lips since I just couldn’t help myself.
“You seem kind of worried, what’s wrong,” she asked me.
“Brittney’s pregnant, I guess,” I told her.
“What’s wrong with that,” Sarah asked me confusedly.
“She’s not happy about it,” I replied.
“Why not,” she asked.
“I don’t know for sure, but Nate thinks that it has something to do with her
mom,” I muttered. I still couldn’t believe that Nate was going to be a dad.
“Maybe we should go hang out with them and try to cheer her up,” Sarah
suggested. I thought about it for a minute, and then shook my head.
“Pretty sure they’re having dinner with his mom to let her know,” I told her.
“Oh, fine we’ll stay inside,” she frowned.
“Are you bored,” I asked.
“Yeah, kind of,” she answered. “It’s just that for the past couple of days we’ve
been staying here and mostly sleeping.”
“I’m sorry if I bore you, I tend to do that a lot with people,” I said.
“It’s not your fault,” she assured me. “Can we see what Kate and Christian are
doing?”
“Yeah, I’ll text Kate,” I told her. I texted Kate and asked her what they were
doing, but I didn’t get a reply.
Brittney
I was going out to dinner with Nate. We had decided we weren’t going to tell
his mom until after my first official doctors appointment. I had promised Nate
that I would stop thinking about getting an abortion, but I secretly still wanted
one. I didn’t want to be just like my mom. She had me when was was only
nineteen and Abigail when she was seventeen and now look at where our
relationship was.
“What’s wrong,” Nate asked as he walked up behind me and started rubbing
my shoulders.
“Nothing besides hoping that I’ll be able to keep dinner down,” I said partially
telling the truth.
“You haven’t actually puked, have you,” Nate asked me.
“No, but I could,” I said. “Maybe we should just stay here for dinner.”
“No, we’re going out so that my mom doesn’t overhear us talking,” he replied quietly.
I looked down at what I was wearing and back up at him.
“Can I wear this,” I asked.
“You can wear whatever makes you happy,” he smiled at me.
“Can we go to Subway,” I asked hopefully.
“Of course we can,” he said with a smile playing on his soft lips.
“Can we order sandwiches and then see if we can go to like Kate’s house? I
don’t really want to talk in public about this,” I said.
“I guess we could, but i think she’s at Christian’s house,” Nate told me.
“Well maybe she’ll let us go over there to talk even though she’s not there,” I
replied.
“Most likely; I think she would do anything for you right now and any other
time,” he said.
“I know, she’s a pretty good friend,” I smiled for the first time that evening.
“It’s nice to see you smile,” Nate said, “it makes me happy.”
“Why,” I asked.
“Because it let’s me know that you’re happy about something, even if it’s
small,” he answered.
“You’re so weird, Nate, but I love you,” I said kissing his lips and smiling.
