Kate
“Mom, what do you think is wrong with Brittney,” I asked my mom.
“I don’t know, Kate,” my mom sighed.
I heard footsteps coming towards the waiting room. I looked up to see Dr.
Williams coming towards us.
“You guys can go sit with Brittney now,” he told us.
“Do you know what’s wrong with her,” I asked him.
“Unfortunately I don’t know what’s wrong yet, but I promise you that she will
be okay,” Dr. Williams told me. “Do any of you have any questions?”
“Do you have any ideas as to what might be wrong with Brittney,” my mom
asked.
“I don’t know right now, but like I said I promise that I’ll keep you posted,” he
said before he walked away.
I was the first one to get up and walk towards the emergency room. Christian
and my mom got up and followed me, and we walked into Brittney’s room.
“Hey, how are you feeling,” I asked her.
“My stomach still hurts, and I really want to sleep,” Brittney answered.
“I bet,” I told her. “Have they not given you anything for the pain yet?”
“No, they said that I have to wait until after I have the ultrasound,” Brittney said.
“Which I think is stupid,” Nate mumbled.
“They have their reasons,” my mom told him.
“What’s their reason for not giving somebody who is in pain any pain
medication,” Nate asked.
“They have to make sure that they give her the right type of medication. If they
don’t know what’s wrong with her and they give her random medication it can
make her condition worse,” my mom explained.
“How is there a wrong type of pain medication,” Nate asked.
“They’re going to help her if you calm down,” my mom told him.
“Whatever,” Nate muttered.
“Nate, I know you’re tired, but you need to cheer up a little bit so that you’re not
so grumpy,” Brittney said.
“How do you be happy when your girlfriend is in the hospital,” Nate asked.
“Hey, buddy,” Christian said, “how about we take a little walk so that you can
calm down?”
“It’s four in the morning I don’t feel like taking a walk, especially when my
girlfriend is in the hospital,” Nate grumbled.
“What’s wrong,” Brittney asked him.
“I basically just summed up all that’s wrong,” he told her.
“Nate, go on a walk with Christian so that you can calm down,” Brittney said
sternly.
“Fine,” he grumbled. He got up and left the room with Christian.
Brittney
Dr. Williams came and got me to take me to get an ultrasound done. It fley by
fast with hardly anybody talking. After the ultrasound the doctor finally gave
me pain medication so I was able to sleep.
Nate
I missed Brittney’s ultrasound because they made me go on a stupid walk with
Christian.
“Why are you mad,” Brittney asked me. I jumped because last I had known she
was sound asleep.
“What do you mean,” I asked.
“I know you’re mad, but why,” she asked me.
“Well, why did you guys make me go on a walk with Christian? You knew that
I didn’t want to go,” I said.
“Is that seriously why you’re pissed off,” she said.
“Brittney, I’m really not that mad,” I told her.
That’s when Dr. Williams entered the room.
“Okay, Brittney,” he said, “we’re sending you home.”
“Shy, did you find out what’s wrong with me,” Brittney asked.
“That’s the thing, for some reason we couldn’t find anything wrong with you,”
Dr. Williams said. “Although, if you start having pains or start bleeding again
you should probably make an appointment at the clinic. Do you have any
questions?”
“Okay, let me get this straight,” I said. “My girlfriend, who came here because
there has to be something wrong, is supposed to just go home? You haven’t told
us what might even be the problem.”
“I told you that we couldn’t find out what the problem was. I did tell you what to
do if Brittney starts feeling like she did again,” Dr. Williams said.
“Okay, we got it,” Brittney said glaring at me. “Now what do we have to do to be
able to go home?”
“Sign these forms and you’ll be able to go,” Dr. Williams said. He handed
Brittney a couple of sheets of paper.
“Where do I take them once I’m done with them,” Brittney asked.
“You can just take them to the front desk,” Dr. Williams said. “Do you have
any other questions?”
I didn’t dare say anything. Brittney seemed mad at me for telling Dr. Williams
off because he was releasing her without knowing what was wrong.
“No, I think we’re goo,” Brittney told him, and then her left the room.
“I can’t believe that they’re sending you home,” I said.
“Why, they obviously couldn’t find out what’s going on,” Brittney replied.
“When did they ever try to figure out what was wrong with you,” I asked.
“The whole time,” she said.
“Fine, I’m walking home,” I said. “Call Kate for a ride.” I got up and left the
hospital.
Brittney
What was wrong with Nate? Who knows, I thought to myself as I walked to the
front desk to give them the paperwork. After that I ran outside to go catch up to
Nate.
“Nate,” I called after him once I saw him. He turned around to look back at me.
“What do you want,” he muttered once I caught up to him.
“Why are you so mad,” I asked him.
“I’m not even that mad, Brittney. I’ve been up all night sitting in a hospital
thinking that you were practically dying just to find out that the doctor couldn’t
find anything that was wrong with you. It’s just too much for me, that’s all.”
“What about me, Nate? Don’t you think that it was way too much for me? I was
in excruciating pain and I didn’t have a clue what was wrong with me. I still
don’t know what is wrong with me.”
“I did think about you, Brittney. Why do you think that I’m so mad that they
didn’t find out what was wrong?”
“Look, we’re yelling at each other for stupid reasons and I’m sorry,” I told him
as I wrapped my arms around his neck. I stood up on my tippy toes and kissed
his lips.
“You’re right,” Nate said, “I’m sorry, Brittney. Am I forgiven?”
“Most assuredly,” I smiled and kissed him again.
“I love you, Brittney,” he said, and then he kissed me for a third time.
Christian
I woke up to find Kate fast asleep next to me. We had gone back to Kate’s house
after Brittney was given pain medication and fell asleep. I looked at the time on
my phone. It was almost twelve in the afternoon, and I had a voicemail from my
mom. I listened to it to see what it was my mom wanted.
“Hey, Kate,” I whispered while I gently shook her shoulder.
“Huh,” she said groggily.
“I’ve gotta go home,” I told her.
“Okay, text me later,” she said while turning over so that she could go back to
sleep.
I got up and walked downstairs.
“Oh, hey Christian, what are you doing,” Kate’s mom asked me from the kitchen
table.
“I’ve got to go home, but I’ll be back later,” I told her.
“Okay, I’ll see you later, I guess,” she said.
“Yep, bye,” I said before I headed to the front door and left to go home. It didn’t
take me long to get from Kate’s house to my house.
“Hey, mom, I’m home,” I announced when I walked inside.
“Oh, good,” she said as she walked up to me.
“So why exactly did I absolutely have to come home,” I asked her.
“Your Nana Lou is coming from Nephi to visit. I thought that it would be cool
for us to have dinner together,” my mom told me.
“Have I ever met this “Nana Lou” before,” I asked.
“Once when you were way little, but not since then. By the way, she’s not really
your actual grandmother.”
“Then why do we call her Nana Lou,” I asked.
“She’s your great aunt but she just likes to go by Nana Lou,” my mom replied.
“Why exactly do I have to be here while she’s here?”
“Because she hasn’t seen you in forever and it would mean the world to her,” my
mom explained.
“Sorry mom, I’m not going to stay,” I said. “I’d rather hang out with Kate.”
“Christian, why don’t you want to stay?”
“Mom, is she a relation to you or dad,” I asked.
“She’s part of your dad’s family,” my mom said quietly.
“That’s why,” I told her.
“Christian, you can’t keep pushing your dad’s family away. In fact, why do you
keep doing that?”
“I don’t want to talk about this,” I said.
“Honey, you’re going to open up about this sometime,” my mom told me.
“I don’t want to open up about anything,” I replied close to tears.
“Christian,” my mom said.
“What do you want? I already told you that I don’t want to open about this.”
“Why not, Christian,” my mom asked.
“Because I’m not going to stay here any longer,” I said while turning to leave.
“Christian, don’t leave,” my mom pleaded.
I opened the door and walked outside and down the street.
