Day and Night (Poetry)

Sometimes Late at Night

Sometimes late at night,
I think I can hear the world sigh,
In the sound of my beating heart,
And the cars passing by.
Sometimes early in the morning,
I think I can feel the earth shake,
Not in the actual way,
But as if it's just about to wake.
Sometimes in the middle of the day,
I think I can see silence fill the air,
In the spaces between clock chimes,
And the sun's unwavering stare.
But sometimes late at night,
Between twelve am and five,
I think that I can tell,
The world is secretly alive.
