"You sure you wanna pull up to this together?" Izzy asked, me as we stopped at a red light.
"Well I mean, you made a scene at the party last week so why not" I said, playfully rolling my eyes.
He chuckled, "I was just trynna congratulate you, thats all"
"I know.. I love my shoes" I said, smiling down at them, as we pulled off.
"I knew you would.." he said. "I remembered you telling me you fuck with Louie, so my plan was to get you a nice lil bag, but I had no idea how many fucking bags they got for y'all.. so you gotta pick your own bag out"
"You thought it was gonna be sweet?" I said laughing. "But i'm fine with my cute shoes, thank you friend" i said, making him cut his eyes over at me.
He smirked at me, "You welcome friend" he said, adding emphasis on friend.
"Ohh i knew it was something I was meaning to tell you" i said, pulling out my phone opening Instagram. "Soo last night after we hung up, i got this Dm" I said, as he glanced over looking at the phone.
"Lemme see" he said grabbing it. "She weird"
"Oh so you do know her?" I asked, laughing.
"I used to fuck with her a while back.. like 6 months ago" he said.
"Well she seems real real worried about what you doing" I said. "Sis said 'you fuck with Izzy?' " I said, using a ghetto voice.
He shook his head, "Like I said, I ain't talk to her in 6 months... I don't know why she coming at you" he said. "My fault about that"
"It's not that deep, I thought the shit was funny" I said. "She saw a few heart eyes under my pictures and lost it" I said laughing, as we pulled up where everyone else was.
He chuckled, "You stupid" he said laughing. "Peep G" he said, directing my attention out the window to look at G scoping the car out as we parked.
"He be on everything, I swear that man don't miss a beat" I said laughing.
Today, was Mir's birthday and since we were all in New York right now, G said we would do a memorial at a spot in the projects that they used to chill in when they were younger. It had been a whole year since he's been gone and today was just a reminder, that he wasn't with us anymore.
Me, Lani and Chy had always been friends since my freshman year in college, so that makes it about 4 years now. But since Chy and Lani had been friends since they were in middle school, they were always a little closer than I was. Not that they treated me any differently, because they didn't, but when Mir came along, it did feel good to have a friend of my own.. you know? Over the pass year in a half, my friendship with Lani and Chy has deepened, because at some point we all needed to be there for each other, to help through a rough time.
I never wanted to feel like I'm using Izzy to fill Mir's spot, but he's been there exactly like I needed him to be for the las few months or so.
"Ashley" Izzy said, knocking me from my thoughts. "You good?"
I nodded my head, "Yeah.. come on" I said, opening the door, stepping out, as he did the same. We walked towards where Lani and everybody else were, having to get through the crowd that was surrounding them. They all stared at us, making faces. I chuckled, "Hey y'all" i said.
"Well look who it is" G said, dapping Izzy. "Who would've thought y'all be pulling up together" he said laughing, as he side hugged me.
"Hey sis" Lani said. "G leave them alone" she said laughing.
"Hey Ash" Chy said, leaning up against the gate, smirking.
"Y'all are so shady, I can't stand it" I said laughing. "Where's the kids?"
"In the car" G said nodding his head towards his truck, that was surrounded by his security. "They watching that Boss baby shit"
"Damn security heavy today huh?" Izzy said, laughing.
"Fucking right, I got my kids.." G said, drinking his water. "You see how they crowding around, half these people don't even know Mir..."
"The cameras out here and allat" Izzy said shaking his head laughing. "How everybody know about this"
"You know the streets talk, all it takes is one ear to hear and it's all over" he responded, as Troy came walking up.
"Wass good" he said dapping Izzy, and then G. "This shit packed, this a party or what?"
G shrugged his shoulders, "Fuck it, we got Mir shit lit" he said laughing.
"Facts" Troy said. "Wassup sis" he said hugging me, and then Lani as well, leaving Chy out. I watched as they eyed each other for about 10 seconds before he looked away walking back over near G. This shit was so awkward and I wish it was over, or never happened.
"Did you talk to Jarell?" Lani asked G.
"Nigga said they was 5 minutes away 10 minutes ago" G said. "He gone be late to everything now that he got a car, you know how slow he move.. imma start leaving y'all together, cause y'all both move slow"
I chuckled, "Facts"
"Un uh, don't do me" she said, laughing.
"Aye G, wassup" a guy yelled from the crowd.
G squinted his eyes, trying to see who it was "Oh shit wassup nigga" he said, walking off towards the guy. "I be right back" he said, as all the girls started screaming since he was walking in that direction.
"They love them so G" I said, picking with Lani.
She shook her head laughing, "Nah they love them some East, they don't know G"
"Period" Chy chimed in laughing a little, but stopped when Troy looked in her direction.
"It's too many cameras out here for me to light my shit up" Troy said.
"Niggas sparking over there, but that camera's ain't on them" Izzy said, shrugging his shoulders.
"Fuck it" Troy said lighting his blunt, as Rell and Breah, came walking up with Wendy's.
"Hey cutie" I said to Breah.
"Hey Ashy" she said in a baby voice. "Hey everybody"
"Y'all ain't bring us no food?" Lani said, hugging Breah.
"You don't eve eat Wendy's La" Rell said, laughing.
"My kids do" she said.
"Where they at?" he asked, and she nodded her head towards the car. "Damn, they in Maximum security" he said laughing.
"You know G don't be playing" I said, laughing.
"Thank you" Lani said, snatching his bag of food walking towards the car. "You gone give my babies some nuggets" she said laughing.
"That ain't right" he said, laughing. "Now you gotta share yours B"
"Un uh.. i'm hungry" Breah said, gripping her bag tight, making us laugh.
Since everybody was here, we were able to start the little ceremony, where we'd let balloons go and light some candles. Because they were gang affiliated, they had some of their own rituals they followed as well.
This day definitely made all of us sad, but the type of energy Mir had, we knew he wouldn't want us sitting around moping. Because there were so many people out there, it made it less sentimental which was a good thing and a bad thing.

It was about 10pm and me and Izzy were now back at my apartment, eating Chinese and watching a bunch of low budget movies in Netflix. I got up walking in the kitchen to get an Iced tea, "What you want to drink?" I asked.
"Henny" he said laughing.
"Seriously?" I asked, walking over to the cabinet where it was stored.
"Nah i'm fucking with you, if I drink that, i'd be sleeping right here on your couch tonight" he said.
"And we definitely don't need that" I said, laughing.
"You be fronting, like you don't be having fun with me"
"Cause I don't need you to start feeling yourself" I said, walking back over, sitting next to him, handing him an iced tea as well, as his phone began ringing.
"Hand me that" he asked, as I reached over taking it off the charger.
"Toya" I said reading the name out loud sarcastically, handing it to him.
He chuckled and shook his head, before answering the phone "Yo wassup" he said, I continued eating my food, acting like I wasn't listening. "Nah, i'm in the middle of something" he said, pausing to hear what she was saying."I just told you why.." he said, while still eating his food. "Heard" he said, ending the call. "Can you put this back" he asked me. I cut my eyes at him, slightly snatching the phone from him, plugging it up. "You snatching?" he asked.
"Nope" I responded.
He chuckled, "You mad now?"
"Mad for what?" I said, keeping focused on the tv.
"I don't know, sound like you a lil jealous to me" he said, tickling my side.
"Stop" i said, trying not to laugh. "You wish I was jealous"
"Nah I don't.. but I do wish you'd stop playing games with me"
"Tell Toya to stop playing games with you"
He busted out laughing, "You finny for that one" he said. "I knew you was jealous"
"I'm not" I lied.
"It's all over your face, and the way ya attitude just changed" he said, putting his arm around me, pulling me in. "You don't want me talking to nobody else?"
"I don't care what you do.. you not my boyfriend"
"I might not be your nigga, but we both know you definitely care" he said, making me roll my eyes. "I been around you too much, I see right through this front Ash"
"So what you saying.. if I say I don't want you to talk to nobody else then what?"
"Whatchu think..." he asked.
"What I think is, you gone tell me you cut them off, but then on the low still be talking to whoever.. cause thats what niggas do" I said shrugging my shoulders.
"So you think imma lie to you basically?" he questioned and I shrugged my shoulders again. "I wouldn't even put that on the table if I wasn't willing to do it Ashley" he said. "All you gotta do is tell me wassup"
"I shouldn't have to tell you wassup.." I said, looking up at him.
He chuckled, "Heard ju" he said nodding his head. "You confusing, you know that?" he asked, laughing.
"Not Confusing, just hesitant"
"Don't be" he said, slowly leaning in kissing my lips, for the first time. Because I watched him come in for the kiss and didn't stop him, I knew the kiss was mutual.
I pulled away from the kiss, "We gonna finish watching the movie?" I asked.
"Yeah.. but i'm not letting you go" he said laughing.
"This isn't comfortable"
"Get comfortable then..." he said, turning off the lamp on the table.
"You're clearly trynna go to sleep" I said laughing.
"For a quick minute.. imma go home"
"You can stay" I said, without even thinking about what I was saying.
"Whaat.. you good?" he said, feeling my head as if he was checking for a fever. "As funny acting as you are, i'm surprised" he said laughing. "But nah Imma go home in a lil while."
"Shut up" I said laughing. "But no I want you to stay..."
"You sure?" he asked, and I nodded. "Lets take a nap then" he said, grabbing the blanket off the back of the couch.
"A nap? It's 11 o'clock, if I go to sleep now, i'll be sleep till the morning" I said, as he pulled me closer, so that I could lay on his chest.
"That's cool too" he said, covering us with the blanket.
I wasn't too sure, how our conversation ended but I was trying to elaborate on it anymore. I wasn't opposed to being in a relationship with Izzy, I just wanted it to be for the right reasons, and not because I was trying to fill a spot that Mir left open.
"Lift up real quick" He said, sitting me up a bit. He fiddled around with his pants, before sitting his gun on the table.
"Sooo you think you just gone leave that on my table" I said, laughing.
"It ain't dirty, I wouldn't ever come around you with a dirty gun"
"I still don't want it right there in my face crazy"
He reached over, grabbing it and putting it under the couch "Better?"
"It'll work" I said, laying back down on his chest. "Why you even need that, you in the industry now"
"Everybody need a tool, no matter what you do... shit you need one, you live by yourself" he said.
"I'll pass.. "
He chuckled, "You can't be scared, especially not being a round a nigga like G all the time"
"Idk, G really toned it down since he became a dad"
"Thats facts, real nigga shit" he said. "I respect niggas that do what they supposed to do for their kids"
"I can't stand these deadbeat ass dads" I said. "And the dumb as friends that promote the shit, are even worst"
"All my folks with kids, take care of them" he said. "I can't fuck with nobody who don't handle their responsibilities" He said, running his fingers through my hair. "Like I just don't see how a nigga could walk these streets, not taking care of their kids, especially the niggas with daughters. All kids deserve to be taken care of but nigga thats your daughter, as a dad you supposed to be her first love" he said, with all seriousness in his voice.
"This must be hitting home, lemme find out you got some kids" I said, making a face.
"I'm supposed to.." he paused.
"Sup-.. whatchu mean?"
"I'm supposed to have a daughter right now, she'd been the same age as Kai" he said, catching me guard.
"What happened?" I asked, turning to look up at him.
He shook his head, "She was stillborn" he said, keeping in short.
"Oh my god really? I'm so sorry to hear that"
"I still don't know what went wrong... she was doing perfectly fine" he said, and I could tell he was starting to get a little emotional. "Her mom went into labor as expected, but when they delivered her, she was dead" he paused. "I never imagined seeing my baby born like that, she had no life in her, yet she was still sooo beautiful" he said, as a tear slid down his face.
"Izzy" I said, wiping his tear with my thumb.
"I was so ready for her Ash, I never even got a chance to be the dad I knew I wanted to be for her" he said. " I never was so excited about something in my life.. shit got snatched right from me"
"I'm so sorry something like this happened to you, I don't even know what t say" I said, wiping another tear off his face. "What was her name?"
"Meliyah"
"Do you still talk to her mom?"
"Here and there" I said. "We had a real bad falling out after the situation, we just weren't happy anymore" he said. "We tried to work shit out, just on the behalf that we were both hurting but it started to get too toxic"
"I know that had be so hard for y'all to go through, I couldn't even imagine" I said. "I don't see how you focus on making me smile, when you are going through something yourself.
"We all go through shit" he said shrugging his shoulders. "Everybody just need somebody to make them think about it less"
"Well I appreciate you helping me through my situation... I hope I can be that person for you" I said.
"I hope so too" he said hugging me tightly.
