I had the bright idea of trying to make the most stereotypically Canadian dessert ever: boiled maple syrup poured on snow and rolled on a popsicle stick:

(I had to practically fight with my dog to get to the untouched snow first, which I have to say is a new experience for me XD)

That's my mom's hand, not mine, I never would've gotten the photo if I'd been stirring. Also, boiling maple syrup just refuses to be aesthetically pleasing

My mom learned the hard way that boiling maple syrup poured on snow is still boiling maple syrup (ouch)

The verdict: Absolutely, 100% worth the effort. We've never done this before, nor have we looked up any how-to's or anything like that, and with only having heard that the syrup should be around 260 degrees Fahrenheit (another disadvantage of not understanding that bullcrap: you can't convert it to something that makes a grain of logical sense and you have to ask your mom what temperature it is in Celsius (around 130 degrees Celsius, for all you sane peeps who wanna make this)), we made a sweet, sticky national treasure. If you're looking to turn yourself into a Canadian (or, y'know, just wanna try something new), definitely try making this.
