am i supposed to sip the words
"long distance" and
cringe as if they taste sour?
like, it reminds me of
the shark attack where
the shark swam away
while i attacked,
but it's not like that's all that
ever happened between
the shark and i...
ironically though,
the aftermath, the scars
have stayed and there are
no ocean currents that
can wash them away.
ironically, long distance
doesn't leave;
it wraps its arms around you
when you ache for theirs,
reminds you photographs
will only curb the ache
a little but not enough to
stop your chest collapsing
from the absence;
i sip the words "long distance"
and i don't know
how i feel about it,
like, it reminds me of my father,
how he stretched out
the gap between us,
how many kilometres
separate my heart from his,
but it also reminds me of
how close it has
let me get to you.
