"How long are you going to keep bumping into me?" A familiar voice said in an aggravated tone.

Ugh.

His bag fell to the floor and one of my AP physics books fell as well.

"Why didn't you show up to the meeting, Gabe?" I ignored his stupid question. " I told you I wasn't going to go." He narrowed his brows. "Mr. Hayes is going to be mad! I'm not going to cover up for you again." I snapped.

"I don't give a shit what you tell him." He groans and picks up his black backpack from the floor. "Of course you don't." I roll my eyes. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?" He growls.

Just then the tardy bell rings, and I am late to first period...again. Crap!

"Nothing, I'm late now. I gotta go." I reply and pick up my book. " "Whatever." He sarcastically laughs and walks in the opposite direction towards the parking lot. Skipping class probably.

---

I walk into my first period and just as I do, the teacher gives me a pink piece of paper.

I, Jacqueline Wilson have detetion for the very first time in my life. I slump into my seat and Mckayla gives the teacher a dirty look. "It can't be that bad." She gives me a small smile. "Yeah right." I let out a laugh.

I look over at the paper again and it says I have detention after school today. "Coach is going to kill me, I can't be missing practice." I sighed. Mckayla grabs my detention slip and reads it. "Don't worry, I got your back girl." She hands me back the paper. "I'll just tell coach you had an emergency and couldn't make it to practice today." She added.

And that's why she is one of my best friends, she is always having my back and is there for me. "You're the best Mckay." I said, shortening her name. I do the same with Tiffany, sometimes I'll just call her 'Tiff-Tiff'.

Once class was over I walked out with Mckayla to meet up with Adam and Tiffany like usual. I tried to quickly hide my pink detention slip into my cross-body purse but Adam saw it. "Woah, what's that?" He snatched the paper away from my hand.

"Nothing." I grabbed it back in embarrassment. "Let me guess, you got detention?" He smirked. I felt my face heat up as Mckayla and Tiff just stared at me, amused by our conversation.

"Don't tell mom and dad!" I plead. his eyes lit up. "Sso you do have detention!" He shouted. Tiffany giggled at his expression. "Be quiet!" I hushed him. "I don't need anyone else to know." I added, looking around the hallway.

All three of them nodded in agreement.

"I need to get going before I get another tardy." I sighed. "I'll wait for you after I get out of practice then, you know, since you have after school detention and all." He chuckled. What a jerk.

---

I slowly made my way to the infamous detention room. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous, infact, I was nervous as heck. What would the detention teacher think when I show up in there? What would the other students think? The school student council president got in trouble and is now serving after school detention.

I sighed and found the room, number 210. I heard a bunch of yelling and chattering from the other side of the door. Oh gosh.

I open the door and poke my head inside. "Come in." A middle-age woman calls to me. I make my way up to her and give her my piece of paper. "Take a seat wherever." She says as she smacks her gum.

I turn to face the rows of desks and I see different groups of students. Some look just as nervous as me, others look bored as can be. I can feel them all staring at me as I make my way to an empty seat in the back corner, away from everyone.

"What is she doing here?" I hear a guy with a large nose piercing ask a girl with lime green hair. "I don't know. Who cares?" She rolls her eyes and looks at me.

Five minutes pass by and I feel like it's been five hours. I wanna leave so bad but I still have another 55 minutes stuck in here.

I look up to see the door swing open. "Gabe!" Three people, including the pierced nose guy and green haired girl cheer together. Gabriel walks in all calmly and smirks at the people who cheered for him. "You're late." The detention teacher glares at him.

"And your point is...?" He snaps right back. How rude of him.

I look over and see his friends giggling. The teacher doesn't bother to say anything back and Gabe continues to walk towards the desks.

He notices me sitting in the back near his friends. "You're in my seat." He raises an eyebrow at me, all of his friends stare.

At first I'm not sure what to say, but then I give him glare. "I don't see your name on it." I lean back in the seat. His friends look back to him to see his reaction. "Get out." He demands.

The friends stare back at me. "I was here first." I spat out, we were starting to argue like children but I didn't care. I was going to stand up to him this time.

"I don't give a shit, move." He grows aggravated.

"..Make me." I crossed my arms, directly making eye contact with his icy blue eyes. He narrowed his eyebrows and opened his mouth as if he was going to say something, but then looked back and saw that the detention teacher was looking at us.

He took a deep breath and rolled his eyes, sitting in the seat right next to mine. His friends began to whisper to each other. "Damn, Gabe she put you in your place real fast." A guy with wavy blonde hair that was sitting near us blurted out.

"Shutup, Derek." He growled.

"Hey, what's your name?" The girl with green hair asked me. "Jacqueline." I simply replied as I bit my lip.

"You're the student council president aren't you?" The guy with the nose piercing asked, his eyes wide. I nodded my head yes, still leaning back with my arms crossed.

"What are you doing in here?" The wavy haired guy asked.

"Yeah, what are you doing in here?" Gabe sarcastically asked, emphasizing the 'you'. He turned to face me.

The last thing I wanted to do was admit what I did to end up in detention. "Well?" The girl urged. "I recieved too many tardies." I whispered, not wanting any of the other students in the room to hear.

"Ohh, we have a badass over here." The wavy haired boy announced, as the other two laughed.

I looked to Gabe, thinking he was going to laugh at me as well but he just sat there, with an un-amused face. "That's it?" He asked, his blue eyes directly on mine. "Yeah." I responded. The other three stopped laughing and looked back at me.

"I'm Natalie by the way." The girl introduced, giving me a half smile. "I'm Tyson." The boy with the nose piercing waved. We all looked towards the guy with blonde hair next.

"And I'm Derek." He ran his hands through his blonde waves. "I'm guessing you already know Swintek over here?" He tilted his head towards Gabriel. Oh yeah, I forgot his last name was Swintek.

"Yeah. Sadly, we know each other." I said and looked at the clock. We only had ten minutes left. That went by quick.

---

Soon, the detention teacher let us out five minutes earlier since we didn't get too loud. Natalie and Tyson made small talk with me during the last couple of minutes in detention and Derek talked to Gabe the whole time.

I started walking down the long hallway to wait for Adam instead since I was out early until I heard Gabe call my name out.

"What?" I harshly asked. He was probably going to yell at me for what happened with the seat earlier. "Did anything happen after I left yesterday?" He asked seriously.

I'm surprised he remembered since he didn't mention it all day. "Not really, no." I replied as I swept my long braid to the side.

"Oh...alright." He quickly said. I could hear his accent once again. "Are you from the U. S?" I blurt out, my curiousity getting the best of me. His eyes widen a little. "No." He says sharply, trying to hide his accent, I can't tell what exact type of accent it is. It is bothering the heck out of me to be honest but then again, I am not very good at being able to tell different accents apart.

"Where are you from?" I further ask. He opened his mouth as if he was going to respond until we hear another voice. "C'mon, Jay. Let's go." Adam demands as he walks up to us, glaring at Gabriel. What is his problem? "Hold on I was just about to find out-" I say as I look back to where Gabe was standing but he was gone. "Oh." Is all I say.

"Hurry, let's go already." My brother urges. I follow him and quickly look back again, no Gabe in sight.
