Parth's POV

Yesterday after I shouted at mom that I would not get married, she left my room without saying anything. I shouldn't have shouted at her in that way. But that was the only way to make her understand my point.

During dinner, Mom was very quiet, that was very unusual. And trust me, silent moms are very dangerous too. Like 'silence before the storm'. Everyday at dinner, she would ask me how was my day and we used to share everything. So I asked her what was wrong. Mom told me that we should go to Rameswaram to attend some funeral rituals as it had been one year since my dad died and she also wanted us to visit our relatives in her native village. So that was the reason she looked sad. I had no other choice but to obey her. I didn't want to disappoint her again.

So the next day we took the first flight to Tamil Nadu and reached Madurai airport. There we met up with a family who were waiting to receive us on the airport. On seeing them, Mom literally ran towards them leaving me behind. I scoffed at her childish behaviour. 'Where is her sadness now? Was that all her drama to make me say Yes to visit here?'

Anyways I am happy to see her like this after a long time. Mom was very enthusiastic, jovial and loaded with happiness type of person. But after we lost dad, she became numb, depressed, she was mourning in dad's death.

Their attention turned towards me as I reached them after collecting our luggages.

'Woah! There are so many luggages. She said that we are gonna stay here for only 2 or 3 days. But she literally packed all of her sarees in her wardrobe.'

"Vanakam pa. Epdi irukenga? " (Translation - Welcome! How are you?) a man in his early fifties asked me, folding his hands in a Namaste. Along with him, a lady in her later forties and also a girl may be around 16 or 17 are there. My mom embraced her in a tight hug, making her gasp for air.

I know he is talking in Tamil. But I have no idea about what he said. I furrowed my eyebrows in annoyance. But in return, I folded my hands in a Namaste too. That lady looked at me amused and said, "Vadhana, Parth evlo periya payana valanthitan la?"

"Nanga nalla irukom anna. Parth ku Tamil theriyathu. Adhan ipdi mulikiran. Nenga epdi irukenga?"(Translation - We are fine brother. Parth doesn't know Tamil. How are you?)

My mom also started to speak in Tamil which annoyed me to the core. I glanced at the girl to find her looking at me suspiciously, eyeing me from top to bottom. She turned away quickly as she noticed me looking at her.

My mom introduced them to me. That man's name is Raj Shekar and his wife name is Kalavadhy and that girl is their daughter and her name is Rudhya. And I came to know that the man is my dad's cousin brother.

After all that reunion drama, we went to Rameswaram in their car. We did all the rituals as the Pandit told. After that, we headed towards my parents native village. I sat in between Mom and Kalavathy aunty in the car which was the biggest mistake I had ever done in my whole life. They kept on talking, talking and talking about anything and everything. Well I can't even understand what they are talking about as they are speaking in Tamil.

'God. Cant they let their mouths take rest once?'

My earlobes are at the verge of bursting. I closed my eyes and leaned on my seat, trying to sleep as I am very tired from all traveling. I preferred to take a nap even though it would be uncomfortable between mom and her, but still it is better than getting tortured by their ranting.

********************************

I opened my eyes to find our car making its way through crooked roads. Seeing the nasty roads and dirty paths, I assumed that we almost reached our destination. Mom told me that they want to drop at a temple near their house before reaching home. But I don't wanna go with them as I am too tired. Raj shekar agreed to drop me at the house before going to temple. The car came to an halt in front of the house and I climbed out as fast as I could, to find myself standing in front of a big house, and the car drove off to the said temple.

Rub that. It is not just a big house. It is an old big castle standing with pride. I wondered how people manage to live in here.

As I approached the Mammoth meak wood door, I can see it is not locked, but the door is hard and slow to move. I had to push it hard to open it. Once it is opened I could see a dead Ox's head on the wall. It's dead eyes were looking straight at me and I looked around. There were many other dead animals head and antlers decorated the walls.

I felt like I had entered a museum. The house was big, it had series of round old wooden pillar marched across the hall and there was an open space at the centre of hall which housed a Thulasi plant.

A chair was placed near it, which looked similar to the one you could find in dentists room. If you sit on it, the only thing you could see would be the screeching fan in the ceiling. I just passed it to find a large wooden swing suspended from the ceiling. It was wider than my car, it could easily accommodate a nuclear family. I sat on it and looked around. Everything looked very strange and weird to me. For the first time in my life I felt as if I was an outcast here. I took off from swing to explore the spiral stairs on one corner.

I walked on it to get to the floor above me. The stairs were old but felt surprisingly strong. First floor looked no different from the ground floor except looking more grimmer, instead of Dead animals, various photographs decorated the walls. It started from one end of the wall and marched until the next and all of it had some weird looking men covered in mustache next to them were some frightened women in sarees.

When I explored the rooms further with my hands in pockets my eyes fell on a girl sleeping on a sofa.

Something about her made my legs to stride towards her. I stood beside the sofa and stared at her face. Her face looked very peaceful and calm. Her silky brownish hair covered half of her face. I felt a sudden urge to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ears. But I withdrew my hand and stuffed it in my pocket. Her head rested on the armrest and she cuddled a pillow in a tight hug. She wore a blue coloured night gown, flowing down to her feet. Her eyes slowly opened and met mine. Her eyes seemed somewhat familiar to me.

I locked my eyes with her's, not breaking the eye contact for once. Suddenly, her body stiffened and her eyes held confusion and fright.

"Aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh" She screamed like she had just seen a ghost. That made me to cringe at her loud voice.

'God! I hate it when girls scream like a mad women'

She looked very frightened as her eyes were widening more at me. I took one step towards her and she took one step back.

She averted her gaze and looked at something behind me with utter shock and looked back at me which made me more confused of her weird behaviour.

She looked behind me at something again and looked back at me widening her eyes more like it was possible as they were about to fall off from their sockets. I looked behind to find what was bothering her to that extent. As I looked behind me, I found my show 'Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan' playing on the TV.

'Woah! Is she one of my fans?'

I looked back at her smirking a little.

'Now, I know what she is gonna do. She will cry in happiness like she find her dreamhero at last and plead me to take a selfie with her.'

But what happened next was totally freaking hilarious.

'Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh'
