Soon after my classes ended for the day, I picked up all of my belongings from my friends' room then returned back home. I walked into the house and took a nice, long, deep breath and sighed with content.

Finally.

I would say that it was like I never left, but that was false on so many levels. It felt like I'd been gone forever, and I was aching to see Dani and precious Sofie, and I really really needed to spend time with David.

I heard Sofie's barks as she ran down the stairs in record speed, traveling over to me in the blink of an eye. I gasped.

"Hey, my sweet!" I dropped my bags and bent down to pet her and kiss the top of her head. "Mm, you smell good. Dani give you a bath or what?" I giggled as she licked my face then I heard footsteps.

"Well, look who's back," Dani greeted me.

I straightened up my posture and grinned at her. I wanted to hug her, but I decided against it. I never got the chance to ask her that very important yet very personal question.

But I was sure she was pregnant. She had to be, and if I knew it, then David knew it too. He was much more observant than I was and he respected the privacy of others. So he was most likely just waiting for her to come out with it at her own time.

"How are you?" I inquired.

"Never better. I feel like myself today."

I smiled, nodding. "Yeah, your skin's glowing. And you look well-rested; that's great. I'm glad you're better."

"Thanks. And I did give her a bath." She gestured toward Sofie and chuckled. "Trust me, she needed one."

"Yeah. Dogs, huh. They're like taking care of a baby, aren't they?"

Dani slowly shrugged. "I-I guess. I think babies are more time-consuming."

Alright, not much of a reaction there. "Speaking of babies... do you know the decision on Alex? I mean, I know he's not a baby but he's a very young child. He shouldn't have to stay in foster care."

"Rowan went to see him while you were gone."

"Did um... did David go with him?"

"He wanted to see Alex, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. Maybe you should talk to him, okay? I only know for a fact that Rowan's adopting him as soon as possible, and it's gonna take a little while. The good thing is that he was trying to adopting him before he was born, so that could speed up the process by as much as two months."

"Wait, so what does that mean? How long does it usually take?"

"I'm not very sure. Six months usually, maybe more. I think it's different for each case. For him, it could take four."

"Okay. I'll talk to David; I'm sure we have a lot to catch up on. Is he back home?"

"Yup." She moved on into the lounge. "C'mon, Sofie." She whistled to the happy dog who followed her and I picked up my belongings before going up the stairs.

I walked inside of the fruit-scented room and saw David resting on the large bed, but he wasn't asleep. I dropped all of my things and ran over to the bed playfully, falling on top of him. "I'm baaack," I announced as he buried his head further into the pillow and groaned.

"Nooo, go awayyy."

I gasped dramatically. "What? You're not happy to see me?"

"I already saw you today." He lifted his head, laughing at my pouted lips. "Angel, you're killing me."

"Please, I'm not even heavy. I'm what? Barely 160 pounds?" I giggled and got off of him, but he pulled me down beside him to give me a 'welcome home' kiss, which I received with much appreciation.

Finally, I was able to kiss him and not feel the eyes of nosy students on me, or hear their suppressed laughter. David laid his head on the pillow, staring up at me and stroking my hair, but I wasn't nearly satisfied. I leaned down and captured his lips again in an attempt to savor the moment.

"Mm, were you trying to sleep?" I asked against his lips, hesitant to separate from them. His hands slid down my sides, sending shivers up my spine.

"I couldn't. I was waiting for you to come back, honestly."

"Aw, really?" I kissed him again briefly.

"Yeah, I wanna take you out."

I pulled away enough to look him in the eyes. "Take me out?"

"On a date. A formal date at an expensive restaurant where I can spoil you. What do you say?" He held my hand, playing with the ring on my finger.

I was already blushing. "I-I mean... I'm fine going to McDonald's."

"No," he laughed. "Trust me, you'll want to go to this restaurant. It's more romantic than staring at Ronald McDonald."

I nodded, biting my lip. "Okay. It's a date then." I caressed his forehead with my thumb as the tips of my fingers rested in his hair. "But you do look sleepy."

He smiled softly. "We've got a lot of time. Wanna take a nap with me?"

"I would love to," I responded, returning a smile. "Let me change out of these clothes first." I climbed off the bed and walked toward the closet, picking up my duffle bag of clothes on the way. "Do you know, Lucas wanted to take me to the mall to find these insane outfits..." I didn't really want to finish that statement, but there was no taking it back. I stepped inside the closet and started unpacking my clothes.

"What insane outfits?"

I blushed, thankful that he couldn't see me. "You know..." I said. "Outfits. Outfits."

"You're repeating the word outfits... I'm not following."

"Sexual outfits," I blurted out, pausing to hear his reaction.

"Aaand did you go?"

I swallowed, hanging up one of my shirts. "Maybe."

"Ooh, I wanna see."

I chuckled under my breath. "No, they don't look good on me!"

"Okay, now I really have to see it. I wanna see, I wanna see, I wanna see..."

"David," I laughed. "You are a child, you know that? You're a baby. I only bought two things which he told me to buy for some stupid reason. I swear I let him talk me into the dumbest things."

"Is it dumb though?"

I could imagine the look on his face as he posed that question. I pictured his eyebrows raised in a suggestive manner and it made me laugh again.

"Yes, and you're just an innocent child. This is too rated R for you," I responded. His laugh rang out, loud and deep, and my cheeks heated up even more. Alright, he was perfect. I was convinced for the billionth time about that.

His laugh had a slight mocking tone to it, a reminder that he was much older than I was. For a second it made me think about all the things he'd been through in his life before I entered the picture. All the things I may never know about.

Truth be told, he was significantly older, meaning years and years of ups and downs. Years and years of loving Rowan, and so many other experiences that I hoped he would share with me.

I was silent after that, pulling one of the crazy outfits out of my bag of clothes. It wasn't necessarily an outfit, more like a really provocative underwear that I regretted buying.

It looked good and it was surprisingly comfortable, but it just looked awful on me. "Wow, I hate you Lucas," I mumbled to myself as I discarded my clothes and taking the time to figure out how to put this thing on.

"You still there?" David asked sleepily from the bed a minute or two later.

I timidly walked out of the closet, quite slowly and unsurely until he could see me. My arms were folded across my chest as I tried to shrink into myself.

David's reaction was instant. Literally, as soon as he saw me, he sat up and stared.

"You can't laugh though," I said, scratching the back of my head nervously.

He shook his head, his eyes snapping up to mine. "Wow," he breathed. "Wow, I didn't really think you'd put it on."

My stupid cheeks were heavily flushed. "Does it look good on me? I don't think so."

"Are you kidding?"

"I look awkward. I-I should take it off; it's silly."

"No." He stopped me, gesturing for me to come closer. I approached him and held his hands. "Don't take it off. Leave that to me."

"I thought you wanted to take a nap..."

His hand caressed my thigh soothingly, a mesmerizing and desire-filled gaze in his beautiful eyes. "We'll skip the nap."
