Rosie's P.O.V.

I paced nervously in front of the Gathering building, biting my nails and staring at the ground. It had been at least twenty minutes since Newt left to get the other Keepers, and so far no one had shown up. I could feel my breathing getting out of control, so I stopped and leaned on the wall, the rough edge of the wood scratching my back. I focused on my surroundings, trying to get my mind off things for just a short while.

Inhaling deeply, I looked up and took note of all the shades of pink and purple colouring the dull sky, and the few clouds illuminated by the sky. The cool air in my lungs felt freshening and nice, the smell of freshly cut grass and sweet, dusk dew livening my sense. I peeled my eyes from the unchanging sky to the quiet, oddly empty Glade around me. As the sun set behind the towering grey walls, the inhabitants of the Glade hid away somewhere, unseen and unheard.

I sharpened my gaze, sure there had to be someone in sight. I scanned the open space in front of me for a second time, and sure enough there was someone. Standing far across from me, frozen in their own train of thought and daze was the Greenie-my brother, Thomas. His expression was distant and dead after Ben's outburst of screams and groans, and Thomas had been scared witless.

From the distance, I could make out the frown furrowed over his intense eyes, and the look of confusion and curiosity lurking behind his features.

Yet another blood-curdling scream tore through the Glade's silence, turning both Thomas' and my face a pale white. I couldn't help but continue to watch this boy, who was supposedly my brother, my very own blood. And yet, we remained strangers to each other- any memories stolen by the Creators. Just the thought that I had grown up with that boy, possibly known him better than anyone, maybe teased him in front of girls? I began to wonder what our parents were like. Were they proud of us? Do they know what has happened to us? Do they even miss us, or is this what they wanted? Are they trying to find us and get us back, or are they laying back, happy without their son and daughter? Are they even alive?

"Tommy!" Newt's familiar deep voice sounded, pulling Thomas' attention. I continued to watch as Newt limped over to Thomas and share a few quiet words. Both boys suddenly looked up, directly at me, making my cheeks flush as they realised I was watching. I quickly played it off and started pacing again, the nerves kicking back in. I refused to look back over in fear that they were still staring, however curiosity snapped at me, and I desperately wanted to know what the two were talking about.

"Hey, Love." Newt's voice was much closer in the matter of seconds, making me jump out of my skin. My back crashed into the wall as I saw Newt and Thomas staring at me with concern.

"Bloody hell!" I screamed breathlessly, placing a hand over my heart.

"I'm sorry Love," Newt apologised, kneeling over to help me stand straight. I stood up, with Thomas only a metre away. He watched on with guarded eyes that carefully analysed each of my moves. "Are you alright now?" Newt asked.

"Yeah, thanks Newt." I murmured, giving him a weak smile. Thomas and I shared an awkward glance as we waited for Newt to speak up.

"So I decided that while we wait for this klunk to begin, we should clear the air a little." Newt began, standing by my side with a comforting hand around my waist. "Tommy, you said you remembered a name; Rose. Well, this is Rose. She look familiar to ya Greenie?" Thomas' eyes widened as he took in my appearance.

"Th-this is Rose?" Thomas stuttered, glancing between Newt and I.

"Ya, that's me." I laughed nervously.

"Now is there anything else you remember about her? She doesn't look familiar at all?" Newt probed.

"No, why?" Thomas retorted quickly. Almost defensive.

"Well because, well it's a bloody long story and hard to explain, even harder to believe. But to come to basic terms, and I know this is going to see far fetched and bizarre, but Rosie here is ya sister." Newt explained straight forward.

"What?" Thomas scoffed, the closest thing to a smile I had seen on his face. It looked odd, the way his lips curled over his teeth and formed a dimple in his left cheek. "No, that's not possible."

"It is, I swear it. I'm sure you have no doubt by now realised the my Greenie here is a little special and different from everyone else. From the beginning Rosie has been bloody different. She came up remembering nothing but my name; not even her own. Rosie knew I was familiar, and it turns out that she was right. I trust this girl with my life, and what she says, goes." Newt assured confidently.

"This isn't true, is it?" Thomas asked breathlessly, turning to me. I looked at him with wide, sympathetic eyes. They poor boy had already been out through so much on his first day, however he deserved the truth.

"It is. There's a lot more to this that you need to know, but it will have to wait until after the Gathering. But I swear Thomas, you are my brother. You can take a look in a mirror and see the similarities in our features. I have no other reason to tell you this unless you needed to know."

"And why do I need to know this?" Thomas asked suspiciously, catching on to what I said.

"Because thing are changin' around here, and we need as many shanks to stick together as possible. And if you're anything like ya sister, you may be able to help us crack the Maze." Newt responded firmly.
