Haley's P.O.V.

As many of you know, Leo is my best friend so if he decides to do something, it's probably best if I do it with him. Principal Perry decided it was a good idea to install an elevator that only the teacher's could use. She should've known that Leo and I were planning on using it anyways.

Leo and I were both in the elevator listening and dancing to some music, but of course, as soon as the elevator opened, there was Perry.

"Dooley! Ford! What are you doing in my elevator?" She asked pointing a finger at us.

"We're enjoying the music. Today's is love songs from the 90's." I told her as I continued to dance.

"Wanna dance?" Leo asked her as we both held our arms out.

"Use the stairs," She told us and we both walked out of the elevator, "This is exactly how healthy kids become unhealthy adults."

"Really? Are we having this conversation?" Leo asked her as we looked at her up and down. She had no place giving us this conversation.

"For your information, I'm a speed walker. Perhaps you've seen me at the Mission Creek Mall giving the shoppers a little eye candy." She said proudly before walking away. Leo and I both looked at each other and gagged before turning to walk after her.

"Listen up, space fillers!" She said to the entire school, "This is emergency preparedness week. An emergency drill could happen at any time so when the alarm sounds, you must evacuate the building in an orderly fashion. Like cattle. If cattle had acne. And braces. And a future filling up my gas tank."

She laughed before walking away, and I couldn't help but think about what a joy she was. Sarcastically though. Leo and I saw Adam, Bree, and Chase so we walked over to them.

"Oh man! I wish I had Bree's super speed because you do not want to be stuck behind cows in an emergency. Trust me on that!" Adam was saying to Bree and Chase.

"You would trade your super strength for Bree's super speed? Man, if I had your strength, I'd just run out of the building juggling those cows." Chase said to Adam.

"Yeah, and if I had your super intelligence, I'd have walked away from this conversation thirty seconds ago." Bree said to Chase.

"You know what would be awesome? If you guys took out your bionic chips and switched your abilities." I pointed out to them.

"That would be awesome!" Leo agreed with me. Adam, Bree, and Chase all looked at each other and smiled.

"Why can't we?" Chase asked them.

"I call your super smarts!" Bree said to Chase.

"I call your super speed!" Adam said to Bree.

"I call your super strength!" Chase said to Adam.

"I call good looks and charisma! Oh, too late. Already got them." Leo said. I rolled my eyes.

"I call getting the heck out of here!" I said.

Before the four of them could say anything, I walked away quickly to my locker.

-------

The next day before school, the five of us were down in the lab. Adam, Bree, and Chase were beyond excited to switch their chips and I honestly was too. It is going to be awesome seeing them with different abilities.

"If you guys are going to switch your chips before school, don't you think you should run this by Davenport first?" Leo asked them.

"Are you insane?" I asked him.

"They're our chips." Bree said to him.

"Well yeah, but what if something glitches out and you end up with Adam's gigantic head on Chase's tiny doll-like body?" Leo asked and Chase immediately became offended.

"Then I would feel sorry for Bree because she doesn't deserve that torture." I said and Chase immediately became more offended.

"We don't have to ask daddy for permission on every single thing we do." Bree said to Leo.

"Yeah. I mean, do you think I ask Davenport which shoe goes on which foot? No, I label them 'left' and 'not left.'" Adam said as he placed his feet onto the counter. Sure enough, there were two labels on the bottom of his shoes that read 'left' and 'not left.'

"Bree, attach the chip extractors to our capsules. I'll program the computer for chip removal. And Adam, you.... just get in your capsule." Chase said to him. He definitely made the right call there by not letting Adam do anything.

"Woo!" Adam yelled as he shot up from his chair and ran to his capsule.

"Now Leo, I have the most important job of all for you. Now once we get inside, I'm going to need you to push this green button. And Haley, I just need you to watch and observe." He said to us like we were in kindergarten. I rolled my eyes.

"Great. After that, I'll push the button that makes you stop talking to us like we're five." I said to him with a glare. He just gave me a look before getting into his capsule.

Once they were in their capsules, Leo pushed the green button. The capsules start to glow and you could pretty much see and x-ray of Adam, Bree, and Chase's bodies and with their chip was. They began changing different colors and the beeping noise started to increase. I jumped when I heard Adam scream.

"Oh no! My head's coming off!" He screamed. Then he laughed and looked at us, "Kidding."

Leo and I rolled our eyes. Once the transfer was over, the capsules stopped glowing and returned to normal. The three of them walked out of their capsules and looked at each other.

"Do you think it worked?" Leo asked them.

"I don't know. Hey Adam, lets arm wrestle." Chase said to Adam.

They walked over to the counter and got into position. Surprisingly, Chase beat him in not even a second. It had actually worked!

"Yes! Who's got the tiny doll-like body now?" Chase asked us and I couldn't help but laugh.

"I'm next!" Leo said excitedly and got ready to arm wrestle Adam.

"Oh Leo." Adam scoffed as he got ready to arm wrestle Leo. This was going to be hilarious.

"This is going to be a piece of-AHH!" Leo yelled when Adam beat him in arm wrestling. I started dying of laughter.

"Now THAT was great." I said through laughter and Leo just walked over and smacked me. My laughter died down as soon as Davenport walked into the lab.

"Hey guys, hurry up! You're going to be late for school." He said to us.

"Hey, Big D. Um, just a simple question. What would happen if three totally random bionic kids decided to switch their chips? I'm not asking for them. It's for three of my other bionic friends." Leo asked him.

"Wait, you have three other bionic friends? How could you not tell us? We could get like a minivan and carpool!" Adam exclaimed.

"You guys didn't switch your chips, did you?" Davenport asked Adam, Bree, and Chase.

"No!" Adam said quickly.

"No!" Bree said quickly.

"No way!" Chase said quickly.

"Good," Davenport sighed in relief, "Because that would be a crazy idea. See, I calibrated their bionics to match their biology. Adam has height so I paired that with strength. Bree is lean so that increases her speed. Chase, of course, nobody questions Chase's impossible wealth of knowledge because he's nerdy."

Chase's face fell and I bit my lip as I patted his shoulder. Chase really wasn't getting it good today.

"Yeah. I got all sorts of smarts up in here." He said as he pointed to his temple, "Like numbers and mathy stuff."

Davenport, I mean all of us, were surprised because that is the dumbest thing we have ever heard Chase say. It was actually pretty amusing knowing Chase wasn't as smart as he claimed to be right now. Our brains would finally get a break.

"The point is switching their chips could cause all kinds of unpredictable problems so you should never do it. Ever. I have spoken!" Davenport said before walking out of the lab.

Little did he know that they already did.

"Mr. Davenport is making such a big deal about nothing." Chase said to us.

"I know. We already switched our chips and nothing bad happened." Bree said.

"We're fine. Race you to school!" Adam said.

He immediately began to super speed out of the lab, but he quickly crashed into the wall. He landed on the ground and the four of us started cracking up. Now that was more funny than Adam beating Leo at arm wrestling.

------

When we arrived at school, Adam, Bree, and Chase were loving their new abilities, even though they weren't quite used to them though. Chase has already managed to break one of the stair railings at the school. Leo and I were leaving first period once again, and we had decided to take the elevator. The emergency alarm started going off while we were on the elevator so hopefully it would hurry up. Once we reached our floor, the elevator opened but Leo grabbed my shoulders and pushed me back into it.

"Perry! Perry!" He said to me.

I quickly started pushing the second floor button, but Perry grabbed the doors before they could close and opened them with her bare hands.

"Not so fast!" She said to us as she walked in, "Dooley, Ford, what are you thinking? In an emergency, this elevator is the worst place you could be."

"Well, it is now that you're here." I muttered under my breath as the elevator doors closed. All of our eyes widened when we started going up. We needed to get off this elevator as soon as possible!

"We're going up!" Leo said to us.

"Thanks Captain Obvious." I said to him sarcastically.

"Did you push a button?" Perry asked us.

"No!" Leo quickly said, even though I did push it, "You must've bumped it when you shift your center of gravy. Gravity!"

Perry shot us another look as we continued to go up. All of a sudden, the elevator jolted to a stop. Perry started trying to push the buttons, but we still weren't going anywhere. What was going on?

"The power's still on. Must be a fuse. The one day I don't wear my tool belt." She said to us with a shrug.

"Hey, I have a paper clip!" Leo said as he pulled something out of his pockets. Perry and I both gave him a look.

"Well! That will certainly come in handy if we need to hold two paper together!" Perry exclaimed as she took the paper clip out of his hands and threw it onto the ground.

Perry walked over to the elevator doors and placed her hands in between the crack of the doors. Our eyes widened as we watched her pull open the door with her bare hands. We saw that we were stuck between floors, but all I could focus on was how she just opened that door with her BARE HANDS.

"Great. We're stuck between floors." She said to us. When she saw our facial expressions, she exclaimed, "Don't look at me like that! In high school, I was an all state squatter."

She grabbed the phone and said, "Listen up, generation epic fail. It's your fearless, yet loveable leader, Principal Perry. I am stuck in the elevator. Repeat, I am stuck in the elevator. Again, I am STUCK IN THE ELEVATOR!"

I ran over and grabbed the phone out of her hand, "Hey, it's me, Haley Ford. Leo Dooley and I are also stuck in the elevator. Repeat, we are also stuck in the elevator because apparently we don't matter. If there are any superheroes listening, we could sure use some help right now!"

Right after I said that, we heard a loud noise above us. Leo grabbed onto me tightly and I just rolled my eyes. I thought I was the girl in the friendship.

"I smell something burning. Do you think there's a fire?" Leo asked us.

"Well, if there is, the fire is either going to melt the cables and we'll plummet three stories or the fire will melt us and we'll plummet three stories!" Perry said to him.

"Is it too late to take the stairs?" I asked and Perry rolled her eyes at me.

All of a sudden, there was a snapping noise from above us and the elevator began to fall. The three of us began to scream and we all ran to a side of the elevator. I got as close to the wall as I could, even though that wouldn't do anything. We stopped abruptly and we were now stuck between another set of two floors.

"Haley, Leo! We have to run home real quick! Don't go anywhere!" We heard Chase yell at us.

"Really? Where are we going to go?" We both asked at the same time and I could see Chase's eye roll from here.

"Don't come over here." Perry said as she Back away from us.

"Hey, there's a hatch on the roof! Maybe we can climb out." Leo suggested.

"Good idea. Lock your hands. I'll use them as a step ladder." Perry said. She put her leg up, ready to step on Leo's hands, but we just gave her a weird look.

"How about you lock your hands?" Leo suggested and she rolled her eyes.

"This should be good." I muttered underneath my breath as Perry bent over and locked her hands. Leo placed both of his hands on her back and stepped up. She tried to push Leo up, but they both began yelling at each other. They were struggling pretty bad. I covered my face without hands because I couldn't even watch any more.

"Climb faster!" Perry yelled at him.

"I can't! It's like climbing a marshmellow mountain!" Leo yelled back.

They both let go of each other and began to bite their nails. When they both noticed they were biting their nails, their eyes widened at each other. I gave them both a weird look.

"You're a nail-biter?" Perry asked him.

"Yeah, sometimes when I get nervous." He told her.

"Me too!" Perry said.

"It makes me feel-" Leo began to say.

"More in control." They both said slowly at the same time.

"Okay. What?!" I asked them. What in the world was going on?

"The thumb is my favorite. It's the filet mignon of fingers." She said completely ignoring what I just said.

"Good to know, Principal Perry." Leo said slowly.

"Call me Terry." She said to us.

"Call me a cab." I muttered underneath my breath and Leo nodded his head in agreement.

"Just so you know, if you comes down to you two or me, I've got some bad news for you." Perry told us and I just rolled my eyes. What a great principal.

"Don't worry. I know Adam, Bree, and Chase will get us out of here. They always got Haley's and mine's backs." Leo told Perry and I nodded my head in agreement.

"Must be nice to have friends who care about you so much. When I was your age, I got picked on all the time. 'Isn't Terry a boy's name?' Ha ha ha! NO!" Perry said to us, "At least they never found out my middle name is Cherry.

This made Leo and I begin to laugh, "So your full name is Terry Cherry Perry?"

"I know right. When I say it, people think I'm ordering ice cream." She said to us.

"Well, if it makes you feel any better, at my last school the mean kids didn't call me Leo Dooley. They called me Leo Doody." Leo said. Perry and I started laughing really hard. Perry was laughing so hard she started snorting.

"Ease up there, Cherry!" Leo said to her and she slowly stopped laughing.

"Sorry," She said to him, "I became a principal so I could make sure kids like me never get picked on. Now here I am using my power to pick on kids. I'm no better than those bullies were."

That's when she began crying. Her crying was very loud. Leo and I looked at her with our eyes widened. We seriously needed to get out of here as soon as possible.

"Sorry Dooley and Ford. I didn't mean for you two to see me like this." She cried.

"Call me Leo." He said.

"Yeah and call me Haley." I said to her. Maybe she was finally finding her heart.

"Don't be fresh." She said to us.

Just kidding.

Her crying stopped as soon as another cable snapped. The elevator started falling again and Perry immediately pushing us into a corner. Leo and I were smashed together while Perry held her arms up to barricade us in the corner.

"I got ya, baby! I got ya!" She yelled as we fell.

"Stop yelling that!" I yelled at her and then continued screaming.

We eventually came to another stop and I quickly moved past Perry so I could actually breathe. The three of us sat down against the elevator wall, and Perry pulled out a candy bar from her pocket. She began eating it loudly and Leo and I just stared at her. She broke off two tiny pieces and handed them to us.

"It's times like these I think 'who's going to feed all my cats?' I hope they don't eat mother. I hope she doesn't eat them!" She said. Leo and I scooted away from her a little bit.

"Dooley, Ford, I'm sorry for being so hard on you. You both really aren't such bad kids." She said to us, which was definitely the nicest thing she's ever said to us.

"Thanks." I said, trying not to sound weirded out.

"You... are a tolerable, middle-aged authority figure." Leo said with a smile and she just nodded her head at us.

"That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. Thanks Haley and Leo... Doody." She laughed and I couldn't help but laugh with her. Leo Doody was honestly hilarious. Why didn't I ever think of that one?

"Sorry I couldn't resist." Perry apologized.

We slowly began to feel the elevator being lifted up. Our eyes widened and we stood up quickly. We heard the ding that meant we were finally at a floor and we all started to cheer. We finally made it. Adam, Bree, and Chase did it!

"We made it!" The three of us cheered. We all formed a group hug, but Perry quickly pulled away after she realized she was hugging us.

"But I thought we bonded?" Leo asked her.

"Well, you thought wrong." I told him.

"I was desperate! Don't get all weird, Doody!" She said to him.

"And she's back." I said.

The elevator doors opened, and Perry ran out of there as fast as she could. Leo and I quickly followed her because I was never riding in that elevator again.

"Dooley! Ford! What did I tell you about being in an elevator in an emergency?!" She exclaimed at us.

"That if you get stuck, cats will eat your mom?" I asked her.

"Got to go!" She said quickly and then she took off. We saw Adam, Bree, and Chase standing not that far away from us. We ran over to them and we pulled them into a group hug.

"Thank you guys so much!" I thanked them as we all hugged.

"You saved our lives! We owe you guys!" Leo said to them as we all pulled away.

"Actually, we're the ones that got you both stuck in there." Chase said to us slowly.

"Oh. Well then. You'll be hearing from my lawyers." Leo said. He turned away from them and began to walk towards the door.

"Because of you guys, I had to sit in that elevator with Terry Cherry Perry and Leo Doody. I had to watch them bite their nails together and I had to listen to Perry cry and actually have feelings. This isn't over." I said as I pointed a finger at them.

Before I went to walk after Leo, I yelled, "Wait up, Doody!"

"Shut up, princess!"

Leo Doody was never dying under my watch.
