There once was a sinking house
Upon the empty street;
It never once did house a guest
Nor wearied traveler greet.
None know from whence this house had come―
Toward what purpose 'twas erected;
We only know the face it showed
Of loneliness perfected.
'Till one day the creature came
And the emptiness he severed
With eyes of hatred for this house;
To destroy it he endeavored.
Ashes, smoke, and flames of death
Were the home's last sight to see
Ere it was razed unto the dust
By the dragon in my dream.
We know not what the reasons for
This dragon's violent act,
Why he flew to lonely lands
And the hollow home attacked.
Was there justice on this day?
Did the house deserve its fate?
Or when the ashes blow away,
Will justice come too late.
