I always said I didn't remember anything from that night, but that's not entirely accurate. It's true that I don't remember whatever dialogue passed between us beforehand, or which of us removed my clothes, or even what it felt like the first time. But there is one thing that always lingered in my mind, as clear and sharp as a shard of glass: afterwards, when he thought I was asleep, he whispered that he loved me. Even in my half-conscious, intoxicated state, I knew logically that it made no sense... but a part of me believed him anyway. And maybe... maybe I still do.
