K, I'm back to first person. I'm thinking I might switch narrative styles occasionally. But please comment if it's too confusing. It's just that sometimes you want the full scope and not just focus on one character at a time. Idk, what do you think?

Enjoy!!!

Why can't I find something to wear? This is the seventh time I've gone through my closet in the past five minutes and nothing seems right. What do you even wear for a rescue mission? Thinking back this is the craziest thing I've ever done. I have no idea why I even said yes to doing it. I'm considering just chickening out. The urge I felt back in the café to do what Ms. Frost says is gone and replaced with doubt. I'm not even trained. I mean I know BJJ, but thy won't help if I'm facing a guy with a gun.

"What are you looking for sweetie?" Mom's voice brings me out from thoughts. I still haven't thought of what to say to explain my absence. Then an idea pops into my head.

"Just going for a run, then I'll probably head to a friends house and study or something. I don't know what to wear though." I hate lying to my mom, I just want to tell her what happened. But Ms. Frost said to be discrete. And I don't think she would approve of this mission anyway.

"Which friend?" She asks. Not even bothering to hide her excitement at the possibility that I made close friends.

I haven't had time to prepare this, so I say the first name that comes into my head. "Sydney." As soon as I say it I want to stuff the word back into my mouth.

My mom starts to frown. "Sydney, as in Sydney Sanders? The bully from middle school?"

I can't take what I said back without sounding suspicious, so I roll with the fib. "She's not a bully, I was over exaggerating. You know teenage hormones and all that." I'm mentally cringing so hard that I think I might double over and vomit at what I'm saying. "We're good now and I think this is going to help our relationship." Hopefully I come out as responsible and not like I'm hiding something.

My mom's frown deepens, but she nods. "All right." She walks over to my closet and reaches for a black tank top, that was hiding between to big shirts. "You should wear this, it looks cute and it's great for running."

"Yeah." I sigh I relief, I hadn't even realized that I was holding my breath. "Thanks mom."

She smiles at me. "Anything for you dear." She kisses me on the cheek. "Text me when you leave and when you come. And if you need anything-"Her eyebrows raise, waiting for me to finish the sentence.

I roll my eyes. "I know, I know. Call you." But I don't think I would be able to tell her anyway. It's literally ripping me apart, being dishonest to my mom. We've become closer as not only mother and daughter, but ever since my dad dies she has doubled up as my best friend too. I decide that I'm going to tell her, but only her, at least when this mission is over.

I glance at the clock behind my mom's head, 4:25, they'll be here soon. "I gotta go Mom." She nods as I grab my phone and pull on a black zipper hoodie.

"Be safe." She calls after me when I walk out of my room. I'll try, I think.

I don't see anything waiting for me outside my house. I check my watch, not a very familiar gesture since I hardly wear it. It's 4:31. She wouldn't be late. So I walk farther out to the intersection, on the side across from the bus stop.

Just as I suspected, my ride is waiting on he curb. I can pick it out right away from the other cars in Boston, it seems right up Ms. Frost's alley. Parked in front of the line of cars that litter the street is a slick, shiny white car. With all the windows some how tinted white which shine like a mirror.

When I'm in view of the car it turns on, the engine roaring to life. Someone comes out of the driver seat. A tall man with a suit and sunglasses, very FBI. He opens the back door and motions for me to enter. I hesitate at first, wondering if this was the right choice. What if this is just some elaborate kidnapping scheme and I was gullible enough to fall for it. But, it was so real and it explains what I can do, maybe I can get help for whatever this mutation is.

I climb into the car, just like it's exterior it's all white. White seats, white seat belts and white cup holders. The driver gets into his seat, I grip the strange seat bell strap and click it on. "If you get hungry there's a cooler with refreshments." The driver says, with a deep tone that's easy to forget. I notice a small, white cooler to my left. This is a nice car.

"How long will the ride be?" I ask.

He starts the car. "30 minutes to the airport, then the jet should take another half hour."

"Jet?"

"Yes. Ms. Frost expects you to finish the mission by 7, as the jet is scheduled to leave Lake Placid, New York by 7:15. There is more information in a package you will receive on the plane as well as gear." The driver says with not much emotion. Making all this sound normal.

I nod and sink deeper into my chair. I'm going to New York. What have I gotten myself into? I've done exactly what I was taught not to do as child. Talk to strangers, lie to my parent and get into a strange car. I might as well add take food from strangers to the list. I think as I grab a granola bar from the cooler. I didn't have a huge dinner, but I can't get myself to eat more. For some reason my appetite has disappeared.

I plan to slowly nibble on my granola bar and listen to music on my phone. But I'm so nervous that my hand phases through it, causing it to short circuit and the screen goes black. I curse silently and realize that that's probably what happened to all the computers I used in computer science.

So I spend the rest of the drive in awkward silence, eating a granola bar in tiny bites.

**

By the time the white jet lands in Lake Placid I'm suited up in a black jumpsuit that fits me perfectly and various gadgets that I don't know how to use. One however I was told specifically to contact them if I need help or pick up. It's a slim, black, touch-screen watch. It gives me comfort since my phone is broken. I make a quiet resolution not to short circuit the watch.

The man from the car, who introduced himself as Rick, was also my pilot. He landed us in an abandoned field.

"There has been a slight disturbance in our plans." Suddenly I can hear Ms. Frost's voice in my head.

I sit up in my seat, seatbelt off. "What do you mean?"

"We have been informed that there are another group of mutants intend on kidnapping the girl as well. They are still a little ways off so you should be fine, just follow the plan.

"If you do see them do not engage. Run. They will try and trick you and tell you things that aren't true so that they will get you too. They are ruthless to mutants and any one under their care will die. So do not engage. Is that clear?"

I swallow, nerves racking my body. "Yes."

Her voice softens. "You will be fine, I will not let anything happen to you."

"Can I ask you something?" I ask in my head.

There's a pause. Then, "Yes."

"Why do you need me if you have a bunch of people working for you?" I assume this because she seems to have enough money to buy a jet, so she should be able to hire professionals.

"None of my people can go through walls. It would cause too much commotion if I brought a bunch of armed men to a small town. I want this done quietly. Plus, you are close to her age and she is most likely to listen to you than most others. We have been watching her and she's very strong willed."

I nod. "Then you can help both of us?" I just want things to go back to normal, so I can use a computer again and not risk my life on missions.

"Yes. Now you don't have much time, go."

The door slides open. I get out of my seat and take a deep breath. Then I step into the cool evening.

Sort of a filler, don't worry next chapter will be more action packed stay tuned (over 2000 words I'm so excited)! I know another one?

Since this is also a kind of filler how about a little q and a? Who's your favourite X-Men character? I've got to say I don't know yet. Maybe Rogue, Nightcrawler or Kitty or Bobby. Ugh so hard!! Hopefully you guys will find it easier.

- Ivy

PS: I haven't forgotten about Bobbie. He will shine! (I mean how could I?)

PPS: I moved the category from teen fiction to fan fiction what do you think? I just wanted people who didn't know X-Men to still read the book because it was kind of like an origin story so it doesn't really matter. But it's still fan fiction so idk.
