Farren sighed at the clock and rolled back over onto his back. He continued the oh so fun act of staring up at the ceiling.

He was bored.

It was almost three in the morning on a Wednesday night and here he was, lying in bed wide awake with no one to talk to and nothing to do. He decided that at this point it looked like it would be another all nighter, so he might as well make the most of it.

He slipped out of bed quietly, making sure not to wake Kaden who was fast asleep. He paused for a moment, taking the other boy in. He had to admit, Kaden looked cute asleep, if that didn't sound creepy. His thick, full lashes were turned downwards and he was snoring very softly, really more of a deep breathing.

He just looked so young and innocent, without his ever present smirk and bad boy attitude.

After realising he had done enough creeping for one night, Farren decided to make his way downstairs, being careful to avoid the sixth step from the top that always creeped.

He closed the door of the den and turned on the telivision. What to watch? All his prized DVDs were up in his room, so Netflix it was.

He flicked through the critically acclaimed section, trying to find a movie he hadn't already seen. This was actually a lot more difficult than it seemed for him.

He exited the critically acclaimed section and instead scrolled through the home page, looking at the different categories, and occasionally adding a new movie to his list.

Eventually, he found himself on the LGBT section. He had never seen any of these before, and didn't intend on starting now.

He snorted, holding up the remote to go down to the next category when he paused, a particular movie catching his eye.

'Boys,' it was called, and upon reading the description Farren found himself hesitant. Would it be weird for him, a straight young man to be watching this movie?

Then again, he watched movies in every other category and to broaden his horizons in terms of film he really should give it a go.

Fuck it, he thought to himself, it's not like anyone needs to know. He pressed play and started the movie.

And an hour and a half later, he certainly did not regret that decision. What an emotional roller coaster it was. He was almost embarrassed that he actually enjoyed it, but who cares. It was a good movie, and that was a compliment that Farren did not give lightly.

He checked the time on the wall, squinting to see with only the light from the television illuminating the room.

He found that while he still wasn't tired, he wasn't as wide awake as he was earlier and with some effort he probably could sleep now.

Turning off the TV he blindly felt his way out of the room with his arms stretched out in front of him and his eyes squinted in an attempt to make out the door handle.

After successfully making his way upstairs he headed straight into his room, a glass of water in his hand.

Once he reached his bed, he climbed into the inviting covers and closed his eyes, trying to focus on anything other than his whirring thoughts and the blond haired blue eyed boy who lay at the other end of the bed, close enough that their bodies were brushed against each other.

A tap on the shoulder woke Farren out of his deep trance. He looked over to see Jesse looking at him with concern.

Currently the boys were sitting in U.S History, a class which Farren generally found he actually liked, but today was one of his bad days.

It turns out falling asleep proved a lot harder than he thought last night and he ended up getting a mere half hour or so before he had to wake for school. Which wasn't hard seeing as his sleep was no more than a light snooze in that in-between phase between sleep and wake.

"Bad night?" Jesse asked sympathetically.

"Half an hour," was all Farren mumbled in reply.

Jesse shot him a piteous smile. "Sorry bro. But it's in your best interest not to fall asleep in this class, Mrs Adler said it's key for the midterm."

"I couldn't even if I tried," replied Farren, this time unable to keep in his yawn.

Not long after the bell rang and he made his way to the cafeteria with Jesse and Rachel, a nice girl who was in U.S History with them and sat at their table at lunch.

"Farren are you okay?" She asked with worry.

He shot her a confused look. "Me? Yes I'm fine why?" He said with a laugh.

"The bags under your eyes are looking particularly bad today," she said, sounding a little more relaxed, his laughing had reassured her he wasn't extremely stressed or dying of some undiscovered virus.

"Late night," was all he replied with a small smile, as the trio made their way over to their usual table.

Rachel always sat with them, even though she wasn't a cheerleader and the majority of the girls at their table were. She was kind, soft spoken and undeniably beautiful.

She had big brown eyes, long red hair and a pretty smile that could light up a room. She was also kind, smart and actually cared about people other then herself, and Farren valued her as a friend.

People had often tried to set them up together, and as much as Farren could admit she was classically stunning, they both only saw each other as friends.

He knew they were better as friends anyway. Rachel was too good for him, she didn't deserve to be just a casual hookup for him. She needed someone who cared about her and who could love her. And Farren knew he couldn't give her what she deserved.

But it was okay because he never saw her as anything more than a friend, a sister almost. He had never been romantically attracted to her, and he doubted he ever would be.

Besides, he has a sneaky suspicion that Jesse was majorly taken with her. Anytime Farren tried to ask him, he would blush furiously and change the subject.

He sat down on the bench, setting his tray on the table. It was pasta today, which was surprisingly nice if you avoided the meat. He wasn't really in the mood for stomach cramps for the rest of the day.

As he ate he found that Kaden had slipped into his thoughts once again, something that seemed to be happening an awful lot lately. It was almost as if everything reminded him of the other boy.

Kaden didn't bother even look around as he made his way into the music room. He didn't care if he got in trouble, his dad was a huge donator to the school so he really doubted he would even be called on his misbehaviour.

The perks of having a rich dad, he supposed.

Speaking of daddy dearest, it had been three nights and he had still heard nothing from his parents.

Not even a call. Not even so much as a measly text.

Nothing. Zilch. Nada.

He brushed off the lonely feeling in the pit of his stomach. It's not like he expected anything else from them. He sat down on the piano, stretched his fingers out and began to play, not caring that he was skipping Biology, or that anyone could walk in at any time. He needed this.

He played with feeling, taking the anger he felt towards his no good parents and transforming it into something passionate, something beautiful. Music.

He really did hate them. Did he really mean so little to them, really have so little relevance to their lives that they didn't even notice his absence. It had been three days, for the love of God.

He thought of Jenny and Grace. If Farren had been missing for even one day without explanation, they would care enough to be worried. God, Farren was so lucky he had them.

His mood was reflected in the notes he played. He played heavily, mostly low notes and in a minor key.

He played naturally as he drifted from dark sonatas to preludes. Classical piano had always been his favourite.

He didn't know how long he was there for but the sound of the bell ringing brought him back down to earth. He stood up from the piano, vowing to himself that he would come back tomorrow. He had to admit, he was having major withdrawals from his own piano.

Deciding that he couldn't deprive his poor body of some nurturing food any longer, he decided he should go to get lunch.

He left the room and made his way to the cafeteria, where he was greeted by his friends. If that's what you could call them. Realistically, there were only a couple that he actually cared about. Which was probably not a good thing, considering he was team captain.

He just simply didn't relate to these people as much as he wished he did. They knew him, they hung out with him. They liked him. And vice versa, for the most part.. But, apart from Luke, he never felt super close to any of them, never enough to spill his heart out to them, to open up.

They were cool people, there was no denying that, but they didn't understand him. But he couldn't blame them for that, most of the time he didn't even understand himself.

He especially didn't understand the way he acted around Farren. Never in his life had he felt the actual feeling of nervousness, until he met Farren. Everything he thought he knew about himself, was slowly changing. Farren seemed to be affecting him in a major way. For example, he had known many of the other boys on the team for years, yet he felt somehow closer to Farren than he did to them, even after only a mere few days.

And even if Kaden didn't know it yet, there was a reason for this. And even if Kaden didn't know it, Farren Milton, in the other side of town sitting in his own cafeteria, felt it too.
