sweet treat

𐬿 𐮚 ミ★ ☆彡 𐮚 𐬿

"YEP, IT'S FRACTURED ALRIGHT." The doctor informed, gently touching around Scarlett's injured wrist.

This was one of their many hospital visits since that horrendous night. Helen wanted Scarlett to get a check up since they didn't use a condom, Helen wanted to stay on the safe side knowing that her daughter wasn't prescribed any birth control. She couldn't swallow the thought of her daughters rapist getting her pregnant. The girl had been complaining about her wrist hurting for the past couple of days, so Helen decided to take her to their family doctor to get it checked out and make sure that nothings broken.

"Do I need to wear a cast?" Scarlett asked blankly, no trail of emotion on her face.

The doctor shook his head before giving her instructions, "No, but you are going to wear a brace. Ice your wrist once every day until you come back in a couple of weeks and we'll see if it has improved."

"Thank you, doctor." Helen smiled tightly, he nodded.

The doctor smiled and glanced down at a clipboard that laid in his hands, "I'm going to get a nurse in here to put the brace on your wrist and send you with some ice, then you'll be all ready to go."

"Thank you." Scarlett whispered, the permanent frown still etched over her face. There was a storm brewing in the head of the girl as the rest of her body had turned numb, it's been like this since then and she didn't know when it'd stop.

The doctor nodded again before leaving the room to fetch a nurse. There was an eery silence that filled the air, Scarlett held a blank stare towards the plain wall in front of her and her mothers worried expression settled on her.

"How are you feeling?" Helen questioned, adjusting herself into the stiff cushion of the chair she was sitting on. Scarlett didn't move her gaze, instead of answering her mouth was sealed shut, not being able to spit out a single word. Her mother breathed out a sigh, not wanting to push her daughter after all that she's been through. Helen often wondered if the father of her children would have handled this situation differently.

Scarlett's father would've gone absolutely ballistic if he ever found out a boy put a finger on his little girl. Helen wished that he could have been here now to comfort their daughter, but he wasn't. She hoped that she would be able to do something so she didn't have to watch her little girl swallow herself whole.

A couple or so minutes passed until a nurse finally came in with the velcro brace, "Hello! How are y'all doing today?" The nurse greeted, happily.

"Great." Scarlett muttered.

"Well, someone's having the blues." The nurse noted before unpacking the brace from a plastic bag.

The Brasstin and Porter women shared a quick glance with each other, their frowns on their faces sinking down more. The nurse noticed the slight tension and took it as a sign to keep quiet as she continued to set up the brace she had brought for the girl. Scarlett held out her wrist while the nurse unstrapped the velcro straps and placed it around her hand. She stared at the brace that was now fitted over her wrist, she didn't think it would be this thick of a material but she'll have to make due.

As the nurse did the last strap, she spoke, "Now, you're going to have to take it easy for the next couple of weeks. Try not to get it wet. You will need to wear it throughout the day and night, only take it off to ice your wrist. In about a week if the pain ceases you can take it off, but you'll need to wear it every so often." Helen nodded, listening to every single word the nurse spewed out of her lips while it came out to be a bunch of muffled noises to the girl sitting on the examination chair, keeping quiet.

Her mother smiled and thanked the nurse before taking Scarlett's other hand, guiding her out of the doctors office and heading out of the hospital building to their family car where David leaned against the vehicle, waiting patiently with a cigarette in hand. Once he noticed the two making their way towards him, he butted out the cancer stick.

"So, how'd it go?" He asked when the women made it up to him.

Scarlett ignored him and took her seat in the backseat of the family car, Helen sighed, "It's only fractured so that's good, but we're going to have to keep reminding her to ice it daily, doctors orders." David nodded and smiled, grabbing his wife's hand before giving it a light kiss and the two piled into the vehicle.

"It's itchy," Scarlett huffed, wanting nothing more than to rip the stupid velcro material off. Ever since they've left the hospital parking lot, the girl was already complaining about the brace.

"We know, Scarlett." David sighed and tiredly rubbed at his face, keeping his focus on the road.

"Did I ask you?" Scarlett sassed, flinging one of her barefoot into his face which caused him to swerve on the open road, luckily there wasn't anyone near them.

"Scarlett!" David and Helen synchronizing together to scold the girl while she only laughed, finding it funny to her. Helen couldn't help but smile to herself after hearing her daughters cheery laughter, it was almost rare to hear that sound these days and she wanted to cherish it as much as she could.

David parked the car into their driveway, everybody stepping out of the vehicle once the engine was cut off.

Helen gently grabbed Scarlett by the shoulders, bringing her close into her side, "You can take a nap and maybe we'll go out for ice cream later!" Her daughter  nodded and they both entered into the house, David following behind them. She wiggles out of her mothers loose grip and immediately runs upstairs.

The girl entered her room, flashbacks of glass shards across her floor, blood smeared over her sheets and the boys heavy breathing echoed in her ears causing her to shiver and hold her injured wrist to her chest as tears stung her eyes, realizing that she was just imagining it. Her room was cleaned and tidied now, her bed set washed and dried, the broken mirror was taken out as well as the glass that was swept up from her wooden floors.

Scarlett let out a shaky breath, slowly lowering herself onto her bed as the smell of fresh laundry wafted into her nose, bringing her a little bit of peace. She ripped off her clothes and burrowed herself further into the soft blankets thrown over her. The redhead blinked up at the ceiling, beginning to think of her dad and what could've happened if he was here to protect her.

She always thought how life would have been different if he was still alive to take care of her, she probably wouldn't be in boarding school and life would somewhat be normal in her eyes. She wished that was the way life turned out but the universe had other plans, plans that she didn't agree with and never would.

The girl tensed glancing towards her opened window, she bolted out of the comfort of her bed and slammed it shut, making sure that it was locked before drawing the curtains closed to block out the view of the world outside. She stared at the curtains, Jacob's violence piercing her mind. She took a deep breath to settle herself, not wanting to be worked up.

But she couldn't, his image of overpowering her and she couldn't shake off his viscous acts that he did to her out of her mind. The girl panted as she took a seat at the edge of her bed, feeling faint as she struggled to catch her breath.

"Please, stop." She cried, feeling his scrawny hands wrapped around her.

Scarlett loathed the capability that Jacob had over her since the day they met, she cursed his name and wished nothing but the worst for him. She crawled under her covers, pulling them over her head, hoping to forget everything and just sleep.

Every minute, Scarlett's eyes grew heavier until she finally fell into a peaceful bliss, away from the real overwhelming world that surrounded her.

The redhead jolted awake when she was suddenly awoken by a loud bang that came from outside her bedroom door. Her heart raced as she sat up and tiredly gazed towards the door, seeing her big brother with a look of guilt over his face as he scrambled to grasp at the fishing gear that he had dropped on the floor outside of her room by accident.

"I'm sorry, I didn't want to wake you," Tyler apologized sheepishly as he bent down to pick up his gear.

Scarlett's eyes widened, ripping her blankets off of herself as she raced towards him with the widest smile on her face. The girl tackled her brother into a bear hug, very happy to see her brother home.

"Woah, I didn't think you'd be this happy to see me!" Tyler joked after being pushed to the ground by his little sister.

"You're back!" She exclaimed excitedly, squeezing her arms tightly around him.

Tyler wrapped his arms around her, squeezing the girl back as he stuffed his face into her hair, he had to admit that he missed her a lot while away on his camping trip. But the happy moment had ended after Tyler pulled his arms away from Scarlett and placed his hands on her shoulders, their identical green eyes boring into each other.

"Scarlett," Her brother started, "Mom had told me what happened while I was away."

Scarlett's smile immediately dropped after hearing what he had said, she tried to wiggle out of his strong grip but the boy wasn't budging, "I don't want to talk about it-"

"Don't run away from me, it'll only make things worse." Tyler pleaded with a solemn look on his face. His little sister immediately began to sob taking him by slight surprise but he took her into his arms and rocked her back and forth, trying to bring her some type of comfort.

The boy didn't stop from the tears falling out of his own eyes, "I'm so sorry."

The two Porter siblings sat in the middle of the hallway floor as they held onto each other tightly. Tyler was furious when he heard what happened to his baby sister, he didn't know how to respond but the boy couldn't help but feel guilty for not being there to rescue her like their dad would have. He wanted to beat up Jacob Phillips for always traumatizing his family in someway, but he knew that karma would catch up to the young boy in one way or another.

The girl sighed into his chest, "I missed you."

"I missed you too, Scarlett." The boy frowned, keeping his tight grasp on his sister, afraid to let her go or she would get hurt again and he couldn't have that happen again.

After their emotional reunion, the family of four decided to go out together and get a sweet treat to brighten up the dark cloud looming over them.

"Yes, there were bears. We saw one actually!" Tyler recollected as he licked on his red popsicle.

"Really?!" Scarlett gasped before taking a sip of her root beer float, her only interest in hearing about her brother's adventures.

"Yeah, my friend Kevin was going to the bathroom and then suddenly a baby bear ran to him. Dumbass he pet the damn thing and mama bear did not look too pleased, but thankfully he didn't get attacked or anything," Tyler said, a smile on his lips. Scarlett's eyes were wide with excitement after hearing her big brothers camp stories, "So how did you fracture your wrist?" He asked before licking his popsicle, his eyes glancing toward the brace wrapped over her wrist, "Mom didn't tell me how you did it."

His sister gazed sheepishly at the brace, "I kinda fractured it when I punched my mirror," Scarlett explained.

Tyler's eyes widened, "What?!"

"Yeah after-" She paused and the two shared a knowing look, but she continued, "I got really mad and took it out on my mirror." Scarlett shrugged nonchalantly, twirling her straw around in cup as she stared down at the table sadly, images and sounds from that night haunting her mind.

Tyler placed a gentle hand over hers, kissing her forehead, "That's pretty badass, little sis."

She giggled and rolled her eyes, gratefully taking his hand in hers, "It is not!"

"Oh that so is! How could anyone just shrug off punching a mirror and not break their hand or wrist, you did!" He nudged at her shoulder and she leaned against him, finding comfort that her big brother was back home.

"Alright you two, we better get going. Ham should be home from baseball soon and I gotta get started on dinner." Helen said and the siblings finished their treats before following after their mother and stepfather. Scarlett hopped into the car with a sigh, Tyler coming in to sit next to her.

As David pulled out of the parking spot, Helen spoke, "Well, I hope the little sweet treat made you feel better, Scarlett." Helen looked through the mirror to Scarlett. When she gazed at her daughter, she saw her staring out of the window with a gloomy face, making her frown.

Tyler smiled sadly before putting a hand on his sisters knee for comfort but retracted when Scarlett flinched, darting her gaze at her brother, "Sorry." He whispered, she nodded with a tight smile and grabbed his hand. The boy smiled as he glanced down at their interlocked hands before putting his focus out on their surroundings.

Helen hummed to a tune that was playing on the radio, David kept his focus on the road a head of him, Tyler and Scarlett watched the scenery roll by as they drove.

They passed by an adult club diner and a blonde woman with big breast walked out in a very tight shirt and shorts. The car stopped right in front of her as the light was turned red, Scarlett rolled her eyes at the woman as she winked at David and Tyler. Tyler looked away in the other direction, while David lowly smirked as he boldly stared at the blonde woman hungrily.

Scarlett scoffed, kicking into the back of his seat, "You dirty old man, you're unbelievable pig face." David looked away from the woman and gazed back at his step daughter through the mirror who held a glare on her face towards him.

"Scarlett!" Helen scolded, not having any clue what was happening.

"What? He was staring at some old ladies chest!" Scarlett exclaimed while Tyler choked on his laughter.

Helen eyes widened as she turned to her husband, shooting daggers from them. David stuttered, his face turning red, "W-what! No, I wasn't!" Scarlett smirked as Helen glared at David.

David launched the car forward after the light had turned green, he began to sweat from his wife's hard scowl at the side of his head, but in the backseat, the two teens were cackling their butts off.

Shortly after the dysfunction family arrived to their home, their mother shot out of the car and stormed into the house with steam pouring from her ears, slamming the front door shut behind her.

David glimpsed back at the teens with a furious look on his face, "You're going straight to your rooms and don't come down until dinner."

"Wh-" Scarlett started.

"Do what I say!" David turned around in the front seat quickly, his face beet red. Scarlett shrunk into her seat, her heart starting to roughly thump against her chest.

Tyler tugged on his little sisters uninjured wrist, "Come on, Scarlett. I don't want you to get hurt." He glared at the man in the front seat as he directed the girl out of the car. David stayed behind as his rough hands gripped the stirring wheel, Tyler quickly dragging Scarlett upstairs and to her room.

"Goodnight, Lettie." Tyler said as she entered her room.

"Goodnight." Scarlett whispered, giving her brother a quick hug before closing the door and getting changed into her pajamas, knowing that there wouldn't be any dinner made that night.

After she finished changing, she hopped into bed and grabbed a magazine that was on her nightstand. That night in the Porter house was filled with angry screams from the fiery woman, a few things crashing and breaking. Scarlett was used to them fighting, they didn't do it often but when they did it went on for hours. Helen seemed to take out her stress on the man and he didn't do much in return, willingly taking every word, but his actions today would cost him his head and earn him a spot on the couch to sleep on for the night.

𐬿 𐮚 ミ★☆彡 𐮚 𐬿

The girl woke up pretty early in the morning, before the sun rose in the sky. It was completely silent and it relaxed her ears, her stomach grumbled and she groaned as she sat up in her bed. She left her bedroom and quietly trailed down the hallway, peeking into her parents room to find her mother sleeping alone. The girl made her way downstairs, seeing the glowing light of the TV shining on David as he snored away on the couch.

Scarlett headed into the kitchen, taking out a bowl, milk and a box of cereal, and a spoon. She didn't bother keeping quiet either, despite knowing that her stepfather is a light sleeper.

"You're being loud!" David complained from the living room.

Scarlett scoffed, "I don't care." David groaned and rolled over on the couch before pulling the blanket over his head, trying to fall back to sleep.

The girl continued, putting everything away after and munched on the sugary pellets swimming in her milk. She enjoyed the silence, the Brasstin/Porter household was always filled with chaos and never quiet. She wished it was always like this everyday but she knew that would never happen. Scarlett finished the bowl of cereal and placed it into the kitchen sink before making her way back to her room, rolling into her bed and easily falling back to sleep after her early morning snack.
