*RJ and Will go to Benji's preschool parent- teacher conference! Enjoy! Love • Bree 💝
Today is Benji's preschool parent-teacher conference! This is to see how Benji's is doing and his progress so far. Will is getting Coralei ready while RJ is getting Benji ready.
"There you go, honey bear. All ready to go. Let's see if Papi and Benji are ready." Will says as he carries Coralei downstairs.

"There's sissy!" Benji says with a big smile. "Hey, bubba." Will says as he kisses Benji's cheek. "Hi, Daddy!" Benji says as he hugs Will's leg.
"Are you excited to see Ms. Slade and Ms. Bayley today?" RJ says and Benji happily nods. "Yeah! Coralei gets to meet them again!" Benji says as he kisses Coralei's cheek.
Will fixes RJ's shirt and RJ kisses Will twice. "Let's get going! We are running a little late!" RJ says as Will picks up Coralei's car seat and Benji runs to the door.
"We will be back Dobby." Will says with a smile. Will carries Coralei and places her car seat in the base before getting in the passenger seat.
RJ buckles in Benji and Coralei before getting in the driver's seat. Will and RJ hold hands as RJ drives.
"What you wanna listen to, bubba?" Will asks Benji. "Luke Bryan!" Benji says as RJ giggles. Will and RJ don't usually listen to country but Benji really likes it.
Once at the preschool, Will unbuckles Benji out of his booster seat and RJ picks up Coralei's car seat.
"Don't run, bubba." RJ says as he holds Will's hand. Will and RJ walk into the quiet preschool classroom.
"Benji, you can go play, okay?" Will says as Benji runs over to the doll house.
Will and RJ sit down in the little chairs and see Ms. Slade and Ms. Bayley sitting down across from them. Coralei begins to coo, causing everybody to smile.
"Hello Mr. Shepherd, Hello Mr. Aguiar!" Ms. Slade says as she shakes Will and RJ's hands. Bayley also shakes Will and RJ's hands.
"Hello!" Will and RJ say in unison. Will picks up Coralei and she coos at Bayley and Ms. Slade.
"Aw, she is a cutie pie!" Ms. Slade as she waves at Coralei making Coralei smile.
"This check list is the testing we did with all the kids to see how ready they are for kindergarten next year. We do these tests at the beginning of the school year and the end of the school year. We see how much they improve." Ms. Slade with a grin.
Will and RJ look at the check list of things the teachers did with Benji. Will and RJ look at the checklist together.
15 Things Every Child Should Know Before Going Into Kindergarten:
1. Be able to state first and last name when asked. ✔️
2. Be able to write first name with first upper case and the rest lower case. ✔️
3. Use appropriate three-finger grasp when using pencils crayons etc. ✔️
4. Count to at least 30 & tells what number comes before/after a given number to 20. ✔️
5. Know all the letters in their first name. ✔️
6. Identity basic shapes (triangle, circle, square, rectangle, oval, star, diamond and heart) ✔️
7. Know basic colors (red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, black, white, & pink) ✔️
8. Identify numerals 1-10 in random order. ✔️
9. Make most letter/sound matches ✔️
10. Identify most upper and lower case letters. ✔️
11. Use finger to accurately touch count items to ten ✔️
12. Know concepts of print. (Front/back of book, which page comes first, track words left to right) ✔️
13. Be able to rhyme words ✔️
14. Retail simple stories in sequence ✔️
15. When give a word (man) and a new beginning sound (f) creates the familiar word (fan) ✔️
"Benji is very advanced for his age! He is the only one in his class to have everything checked off! You two should be very proud." Bayley says with a big smile.
"Benji can spell his nickname and Benjamin. The only problem he had a little trouble was his last name, which he has a long last name, but I think he will get it quick." Ms. Slade says causing RJ to giggle.
"Aguiar is hard to spell. I'd give it to him for trying!" RJ says and Will smiles.
"He never asked us how to spell his last name, I'll work on it with him." Will says as he watches Benji playing with the cars.
"He has slight trouble in his th sound and s's but that's very common for kids his age. He is very mature for being just turned four a few weeks ago." Ms. Slade says.
"Yeah, for what he's been through he is a smart cookie." Will says as he kisses Coralei's cheek.
"His handwriting is very neat for starting to learn how to write! He can copy his name with no letter mistakes." Bayley says.
"Will and I tried to work with him some but he didn't want to." RJ says with a giggle.
"Most preschoolers don't like to write just yet. It's great that Benji likes to write now." Ms. Slade says.
"When we first brought Benji home RJ and I did little homeschool activities with him. Like learning about letters, shapes, numbers and other things." Will says and RJ nods.
"That's awesome! I can see why he knows a lot. Keep up the good work." Ms. Slade says, causing Will and RJ to smile brightly.
Socially your child should be able to:
1. Adjust own clothing before/after using restroom. ✔️
2. Use restroom independently including washing hands without reminder. ✔️
3. Take off and out on outer clothing ✔️
4. Sit for a story for 5-10 minutes ✔️
5. Clean up after themselves ✔️
6. Share materials/toys with other children. ✔️
7. Attend kindergarten with a positive attitude. ✔️
8. Be confident and ready to separate from parent. ✔️
9. Be able to listen and follow 2-3 step directions. ✔️
10. Be able to solve problems without aggression. ✔️
"He has trouble with jeans sometimes which is very common for a four year old. He has trouble with the button. But, he knows to fix his shirt and the legs of his pants and to pull the zipper up." Ms. Slade says.
"Yeah, he always has Will or I doing the buttons. He doesn't like buttons." RJ says.
"Most little kids don't like buttons. Benji usually gets it but sometimes it takes him a minute or two." Bayley says.
"He is one of the few boys to sit during storytime! He loves to clean up too." Ms. Slade says.
"I think he is learning patience because of Coralei. He has to wait for things more often." Will says.
"He is a wonderful listener and has fantastic memory." Ms. Bayley says. "He doesn't listen to us sometimes! Must be a parent thing." RJ says with a chuckle.
"He loves to talk about his baby sister. He loves to talk about her and he tells all his classmates all the little things she does." Ms. Slade says proudly.
"He really wanted a sister and got excited when we found out it was a girl." Will says as he fixes Coralei's hair bow.
"We just wanted to let you know that next week we are going to have fire safety day. Where a firefighter comes and teaches the kids how to be safe and what to do if their house is on fire. I just wanted to let you guys know because I know this is a huge trigger for Benji." Ms. Slade says to Will and RJ.
"I think Benji will be okay. He hasn't been triggered with the fire smell lately but I don't like to introduce a trigger just incase he goes into a full blown meltdown." Will says and RJ nods.
"Well, we will see how he reacts during it and if he begins to have an anxiety attack, Bayley can take him inside and help him calm down." Ms. Slade says and Bayley nods.
"Thank you so much. It means a lot." RJ says and Will nods.
"Of course! I want to make sure Benji is okay and has fun in school and not having PTSD triggers." Bayley says with a grin.
Benji walks over and kisses Coralei's cheek. "Hey Benji!" Bayley says as she waves at Benji. "Hi Ms. Bayley! Hi Ms. Slade!" Benji says as he waves.
"Hey birthday boy! I heard your birthday was a week ago! Did you have fun?" Ms. Slade asks Benji.
"Yeah! I got a trampoline! And I dressed up as Ash and Coralei dressed up as Pikachu!" Benji says happily.
Ms. Slade and Bayley talked with Will and RJ for a few minutes before they leave.
The note from Ms. Slade and Ms. Bayley!
"Benji is very enthusisatic about his learning and loves to learn new things! Benji has a wonderful personality that lights up the room and all of his classmates enjoy being around him and playing with him! He is very compassionate and thoughtful in everything he does. Benji is a natural leader and will be to his classmates in the coming years. Benji's love of learning and enthusiasm for doing his best has really shown in his work! Despite his past, he loves to explore and learn new things fast! Benji is ahead and beyond for his age and will be ready for kindergarten early!"
"Benji, you got an awesome report from your teachers! Papi and I am so proud of you!" Will says as he hugs Benji.
"What did they say?" Benji asks as RJ buckles him in. "They said that you are a smartie pants!" RJ says as he kisses Benji's cheek.
"Daddy, I'm hungry!" Benji says as he takes a sip of water. "What do you want, bubba?" Will asks Benji.
"Taco Bell!" Benji says and RJ giggles. "That's my boy!" RJ says and Will smiles.
RJ, Will, Benji and Coralei spend the rest of the day together! :)
