HAPPY THREE MONTHS FROM A TOO PRETTY SKY 💎

As my eyelids fluttered open, I was aware of a cold compression on my forehead. I frowned, moving to reach up to it.

"It's okay, Sky, stay still." A voice said, sounding close yet far away. I shut my eyes, groggily trying to make sense of everything that was going on. When I opened them again, I was aware of a face covering my vision.

I blinked. It was Bria.

I reached my arm upwards, waving it around at nothing in particular. Bria smiled, grabbed my hand and placed it back down. I muffled something incoherently, then tried to push myself up.

"Take it slow." Bria instructed, helping me sit comfortably against a mountain of pillows behind me. It was then that I realised that we were in my room. I frowned, looking around, trying to find any signs of Jameson.

"What happened?" I mumbled, instinctively bringing my hand up to the pain on my face. Bria pushed my arm back down once again.

"Can you remember anything?" Bria asked, completely avoiding my question. Dots appeared across my vision and, this time, I managed to place a hand to my head. Hands rubbed my shoulders as I tried to overcome my sudden faintness.

"Do you think you'll be sick?" Bria asked and I shook my head.

"I just need some air." I told her. The cold compression was removed from my head and I was lifted up. I placed my feet on the ground and they gave Bria less work to do as she moved me to my window seat. She helped me onto the seat and I sat down, leaning my head against the window.

Bria moved my head so that it leaned against a pillow that she wedged between my head and the wall, then she pushed open the window. It let out a squeak, since it probably hadn't been opened since summer last year.

I inhaled the crisp autumn air with relief, opening my eyes to be captivated by a stunning sunset.

"What time is it?" I asked Bria. The sun was still up, but, as it started to descend, its colour bursted out and lit up the translucent clouds.

"Quarter to seven." Bria replied, placing the ice pack back onto the side of my face.

"Where's Jameson?" I asked, recalling that I hadn't seen him earlier in my dazed moments.

"In his room—talking to Jonah." Bria told me, her arm dropping slightly.

"I'll take it." I told her, and she removed her hand, and I placed the ice pack onto my wound myself.

"I remember what happened." I confirmed. "But I blacked out straight after." I continued.

Bria nodded, "yeah, Jameson was pretty freaked—he didn't know what to do."

"Say sorry?" I joked. Bria smiled ruefully.

"It wasn't that simple. He felt terrible for what he did, and even attempted to take you to the hospital." Bria explained.

"'Attempted'?" I echoed Bria.

She nodded, "it was a bad idea, as explained by Jonah—it would mean that Jameson would have to explain what happened to you." She told me.

"And I guess that 'my fist ran into her face accidentally' wouldn't have been a very good explanation?" I joked again.

Bria tucked a hair behind her ear. "He would've gotten into a lot of trouble." She told me.

I nodded, "we're already in a deep mess as it is." I added.

"So how did I get here?" I shot at Bria before she could have the chance to ask me about anything that was just said.

Bria smiled, but it looked wistful on her lips. "Jameson carried you here."

"I'm surprised that he could manage that." I retorted, and Bria tried to hide her laughter.

"Actually, he was completely panicked about what had happened. He didn't know what to do once we got here. So Jonah took him into his room to calm him down whilst I play nurse." Bria's smile, this time, was genuine.

Reading my expression she said, "I haven't heard any shouting yet." She assured me and I laughed.

"Well, thanks for playing nurse." I watched her shrug as if it wasn't a problem.

"How is your head?" She asked and I sighed.

"I won't know until I look at it." I told her and she agreed. I swung my legs around, ready to hop off the seat. Bria was about to chastise me to stay seated, but then decided against it and started to help me up.

"I think I'll go to the toilet," I told her, making my way, slowly, over to the bathroom. "can you see if Jameson has any painkillers?" I asked.

Bria smiled, "of course." She chirped and I grinned back at her, then walked into the bathroom and shut the door behind me.

Not ready to see the abomination that was my face, I decided to use the toilet first. All was going well until I realised that I needed to wash my hands. I groaned inwardly and hesitantly removed the ice pack from my face. And lo and behold, the whole of Australia was on my face.

Damn, Jameson really did some damage control.

I stared at it for five minutes more, then, when Bria knocked on the door, I nearly jumped out of my skin.

"I have the painkillers." She said through the wood of the door.

I cleared my throat and calmed my hazardous breathing. "Okay, five seconds!" I called back, turning the taps on and washing my hands quickly. I dabbed a towel at my hands before exhaling and turning the door handle. Bria stood on the other side of the door, holding a box of painkillers in one hand and a new ice pack in the other.

Her eyes flickered between the swollen lump on my forehead to my eyes. "Are you okay?" She asked.

I turned around, faced the mirror and sighed. Bria took that as an answer.

She opened the box of painkillers and passed me a bottle of water—of which she must've found on my nightstand. She gave me two pills and I downed them, sipping some water to wash them down.

When I was done, I placed the bottle down and placed both palms either side of my sink, leaning inwards. I closed my eyes. Bria placed a palm on my shoulder.

"It doesn't look that bad." She assured me.

"I have school tomorrow." I countered.

"You can cover it with concealer." Bria advised. A few moments passed, then she quietly added, "or you could play the guilt card on Jameson and maybe he'll let you have the day off?" I could hear the playfulness in her voice, so opened my eyes to see a hint of a smile on her features.

"He owes me the sea and the sky after what he's done to my face." I groaned, pushing myself off the marble counter and turning around to face Bria. She placed the ice pack to my eye again. I smiled, taking it into my hand and applying the pressure myself once more.

"Jameson will happily give you the sea and sky everyday—without you even asking for it." Bria told me. I looked at her through my right eye. I was about to respond when a knock at my bathroom door startled me.

It was Jonah.

"I think it's time that we go, Bria." He announced.

Bria huffed but gave in nonetheless. "That's only because you want to text your girlfriend." Bria muttered under her breath, earning a sharp glare from Jonah as she walked out of the bathroom.

I opened the door and watched as Jonah gestured for Bria to leave first.

She waved at me, "bye, Sky." Was all she said, with a soft smile on her lips, before walked away.

Jonah turned towards me. "Jameson feels awful. Just blame him using short words and talk slowly—if at all possible." I had a feeling that Jonah was over-exaggerating for comical purposes, but I nodded nonetheless.

I closed the door behind him, then turned around and stared at another door. The door between mine and Jameson's room.

Now to face the person who punched me in the face, therefore gifting me with a bruise that was currently pulsing as it swelled. Who was this person?
My Guardian.
