~Chap 2: First Night~

~Andy’s POV~

“I’m done packing.” I said as I settled the last book that I had with me on the desk.

“You must be a light packer huh?” Cam joked dryly as he folded some shirts.

“Ermm… I guess?” I told him as I sat on a chair.

He looked up and saw that my entire suitcase and my duffel bag were already empty. He raised his brow at me as he found out that my wardrobe poorly consisted of two pairs of jeans, and a couple of shirts. By the look on his face, I could tell he was really surprised.

“So you weren’t kidding, were you?” he asked in curiosity as he sat down on the edge of the bed.

“I guess not.” I asked in confusion.

I honestly didn’t know what he was talking about.

“So instead of packing clothes, you chose to pack your books?” he asked me with scrutinizing eyes.

“I do love my books, they keep me company.”

“Uhuh.” He mused sceptically.

“It’s a passion.” I said not understanding what he meant.

“If you say so…” he trailed off.

“Okay?”

"Okay." he replied flatly.

“Huh?” I asked, puzzled from his lack of sense.

He just looked at me with a raised brow as his gaze shifted from my almost empty wardrobe, to my face, then to my stack of books.

“Oh.” I said. Feeling somewhat irritated.

“I actually came here in a rush, so I left all my clothes back in my old house. I just made with what I had at my room the day I left so yeah.”

“Oh, that explains it.”

Well, that was partly true, since I did leave my house in a rush to get away from it all… but I kinda left out the part about my clothes. I actually got a hold of these shirts and old pairs of jeans my ex –I cringed at the thought him— left behind.

Of course I can’t tell him that the reason why I didn’t bring enough clothes was because I didn’t actually have any guy clothes…

“I was actually planning on buying some new ones while I’m here.” I told him.

“Oh.” he said out loud. “Figures. Thought you got robbed or something.”

“The heck?” I suddenly blurt out.

“What? Like you can blame me?” He said, surrendering his hands in front of him.

“It’s okay.” I cut him off. “Let’s just pretend it didn’t happen.

I can’t help but laugh at his little epic fail moment.

“Moving on.” He said as he stretched. “Wanna come with me tomorrow?”

“Come where?” I asked in surprise.

“I thought you were gonna buy clothes?”

“Yeah?”

“I’m gonna buy some things anyway, you could tag along if you want to. Guess I could give you a ride.” He said casually.

“Oh, that’s awfully kind of you. Thank you.” I said sheepishly.

Oh shoot. That was too cuddly. No guy would say ‘Oh that’s awfully kind of you’… not unless he’s British or something. I better study more guys so that I could act like them more. Oh well, what’s done is done… I better just try again with a different approach.

“Yeah… I thought, since I was gonna be stuck with you and all, I guess I better hang out with you or something.”

“Thanks man.” I said awkwardly as I extended my hand to give him a high five.

Sure?” He said as he gave me one.

FAIL.

I stumbled two steps backward as I cradled my hand. It turned out that guy’s high fives were actually quite strong. Not like the encouraging “go team” high fives we had at gymnastics. Note to self: Never gonna try that again. Ever.

“What’s wrong?” he eyed me sceptically as he stretched again.

“N-nothing.” I said with a smile.

Oh, nothing really. You just applied a little too much force on that high five that’s all. I rolled my eyes in my head.

“Just a little hungry that’s all.” I lied in excuse.

“Same same.” He grumbled as he stretched after standing up. “I’m hungry too.”

“Great.”

“What are you waiting for then?” he said as he pointed to the door. “Let’s go.”

~Cafeteria~

When we reached the dining hall, only few of the chairs were vacant. The whole place seemed like it was full of really, really, really hungry teenagers. Do guys really eat this much? Damn.

I quietly slid inside the line and waited quietly behind Cam. Just as we were nearing the lunch lady, he suddenly turned, closing in the distance between us.

“What’re you gonna get?” he suddenly asked.

“Oh, I’ll just get whatever you’re getting.”

“Sure.” He said, taking my tray. “Go find us some chairs... seems like we won’t be seating in one if we wait any longer.”

Okay. He’s right. The whole dinning hall’s getting pretty packed. I made my way through the jungle of a cafeteria, trying my best not to hit anyone. Sadly, it didn’t do me any good. I got shoved off in different directions a few times before I found an exit. Right. We could just eat at the tables outside.

I went out the open glass door, and saw only a few guys outside. Great. The perfect place to eat without getting disturbed. I’m pretty positive that Cam won’t be too disturbed to eat out here in the cold. After all, he wants privacy as much as I do.

Once I spot him walking around with two trays perfectly balanced on both hands, I rush over to help him.

“There you are.” He huffed. “I looked everywhere inside.”

“Oh, I couldn’t find any vacant chairs inside so I headed out here. You wouldn’t mind right?” I asked wearily.

“Sure.”

He then walked with me to a vacant picnic table and settled down there. I should’ve brought a jacket with me, its freaking freezing out here. I let out a shudder as a shiver went down my spine.

“You cold or something?” he asked with a raised brow. “Your shaking like a Chihuahua.” He laughed to himself.

Oh really that’s so mature. I faked a laugh and tried to keep my shaking to myself. What? I can’t help myself, it’s really cold. I breathed onto my hands in an attempt to make myself a little warmer.

“Here.” He said, tossing me his hoodie.

“Oh.” I said in surprise.

“Yeah you need it more than I do.” He mused.

“Thanks I guess.”

Wow. Who knew he had the capacity to be kind. Oh well, I better just eat this off. I looked at the tray in front of me, a bottle of lemonade, some fish and chips, a club sandwich, and a slice of warm apple pie. Okay? So why do I have a generous heap of food right in front of me?

“Uh, Cam? Don’t you think this is a little too much for supper?” I asked sceptically.

“Are you kidding? In truth I was kinda bummed I ran out of Lasagna.” He said under his breath.

Okay? So it really seems like I’m in a parallel dimension where people’s appetites are much, much, much bigger. I just pretended to agree with him and munched away with my dinner. Since he’s still kinda pissed off with the Lasagna shortage, I chose not to talk during the meal. Gladly, he didn’t mind at all.

To my surprise, I actually finished the whole tray. Wow. Back when I was still a girl, I’d already be full with a whole club sandwich. Sometimes I don’t even finish the whole thing... but now, oh now... boy can I eat, like I’m in a hormonal imbalance or something. Well at least I won’t get fat that easily. From the looks of it, most of the guys here seem fit even if they eat a feast’s worth of food.

I played with the crust f my apple pie as I waited for Cam to finish his drink.

“I’m gonna go up now. You gonna stay here?”

“Yeah, I guess I’ll take a look around.” I said as I stood up.

“Sure. I’ll just leave the door unlocked in case I fall asleep.”

“Kay. See you later.”

I walked around outside for a few minutes, observing the guys as they arm wrestled with each other. Are guys always this rowdy? I guess I batter take this opportunity to observe them... I just walked outside the glass walls, putting my hands inside the pockets in Cam’s hoddie. I couldn’t help but notice how good his hoodie smelled. It sort of has this musky-soft vanilla scent.

Huh. Seems like guys have the habit of punching each other on the shoulder, and doing that weird knuckling thing on the head gesture. Gonna keep that in mind. Oh, and they walk with their shoulders, not with their hips. Yup, gonna keep that one in mind too. So after about fifteen minutes or so, I gave up and headed inside. The cold was killing me already.

I quickly made my way between every opening I can see between the guys in the Dining Hall. Once out of that oblivion, I headed for my room at Rummer building and went up. For about a minute or two, I just stood there, hands holding the knob.

After that really generous meal, I knew there was nothing I could do but prepare myself for the inevitable... Sleep. Yup, I’m gonna sleep in the same bed... with Cam... who’s a guy. Yup. I know I’m a guy too but this female brain seems to be panicking at the very thought of him and me on the same bed. I know nothing’s gonna happen, but hey, you can’t blame me. Here we go.

“Oh.” Cam said partly surprised. “Bathrooms all yours.” He added as he stepped out in just his boxers.

“Oh, s-s-sure.” I said in a croaky voice, doing my best to look away from his barely clothed body.

“You sick or something?” he said, waving a hand in front of me.

How did he get so close in just a split second?

“Nothing, just tired.”

“Whatever, just don’t puke or something, you look pretty pale.” He said in an amused tone.

Is he for real? How could he even make fun of me now? Creep. It’s not my fault that the presence of a half naked guy makes me feel uneasy. Sheesh. I’m no pervert in case you haven’t noticed. Jerk. I quickly went in the bathroom after taking my bag of necessities, avoiding any sight of him. Don’t want him to make fun of me again do I?

So it turns out that the bathroom is nice after all. It had a nice sink, a bonsai plant, and a fair sized mirror with a built in medicine cabinet inside. It seems pretty cozy in here. Heck, it wouldn’t be so bad if I just sleep here instead. For a moment, I really considered doing it... but who am I kidding?

After looking at my reflection in the mirror, that’s when it occurred to me—I had nothing to change into. Drats, oh well, I guess I could just sleep in my jeans. I just washed my face, brushed my teeth, and then headed out.

“Wait,” Cam said, his brow lifting up to one side. “You’re gonna sleep in that?” he asked incredulously.

“Looks like it.” I casually said, imitating his air of nonchalance. Hah! Take that you!

“No you’re not.” He said firmly, holding out a hand to stop me.”

“And tell me why not?” I challenged.

“Cause I don’t like the feeling of jeans when I sleep. It makes me feel uneasy.”

“What’d you have me wear then?” I ask, pointing at my almost empty wardrobe.

“Here.” He said, tossing me a light long sleeved shirt and a pair of loose boxer shorts. “Use this first.”

“You know, I’m gonna buy some clothes tomorrow. You don’t need to loan me yours.” I say.

“Trust me, it’ll benefit me way more. Just couldn’t stand the sound of jeans on a soft silk mattress.”

“Fine.” I said, turning back and changing into his clothes. It had the same scent as the hoodie he lent me. Wow. I look like a coat hanger. The big shirt fell about 6 feet above my knees and the boxers where only a lightly bit longer than my tight swim-trunk style boxers.

After folding my clothes neatly, I finally slid the door open and stepped outside. Cam just looked at me and scooted over to his side of the bed. “Fit’s you good enough.” He says to himself.

“Okay.” I told myself, “You can do this Andy.” Nothing will happen... Nothing will happen...

I slowly forced my feet to walk up to our bed. Once I’ve endured that, I just stood at my side of the bed, not knowing what I should do now. Cam then sat up, his eyes wide as he said, “What the heck are you doing standing over there why I’m lying here?!? You’re acting like I’m some sort of sacrifice or something.” He said uneasily.

“I was just erm... uh... admiring the silk sheets. Yeah.” I lied in excuse.

“Uhuh.” He said with a raised brow. “Look whatever man, just scoot over. You’re freaking me out.” He said, rolling his eyes as he turned to face the opposite wall.

Oh, so he’s the one who’s supposed to be freaking out? That’s my line thank you very much. Ugh, creep.

I unwillingly lifted up the sheets and lay down on the bad. The mattress felt good around my back. Seriously, it’s literally shaping onto my back. Well, at least that’s a little blessing. The short distance that was between us seemed to feel like a void.

I tried my best to keep the position I had when I first lay here. Not moving while sleeping has always been one of my talents. Cam on the other hand seems to be just the opposite of that. He kept on moving so much, I wouldn’t be surprised if he fell of the bed right now.

After about two to three gruelling hours, Cam’s been sound asleep, while I’ve been wide eyed awake all this time. How long before the sun shines already? I don’t know how long I’ll take for me to endure this tonight... oh well.

I turned away and leaned toward the side of my bed. All of a sudden, I feel an arm tug onto me, clutching my waist and pulling me backwards as I tried hard to break free from what seemed like a bear hug from behind.

Someone help me nooooowww!
