When it comes to intelligence, Wu Suo Wei must be given credit. No one else would think to feed Xiao Cu Bao ten fat birds and put it under the bed to digest. Xiao Cu Bao's belly was full to bursting, and it was in too much of a stupor to move, its eyes too glazed over to notice the two people nestled above.
"Fuck. Stop crowding me." Wu Suo Wei irritably shoved Chi Cheng.
Of course, it had to be a single bed, plus Chi Cheng was so tall and burly that it was a wonder the two men fit at all. Chi Cheng had just gotten into bed and was squeezing Wu Suo Wei on the inside so that his face was practically plastered against the wall. How could he not be angry?
"Don't crowd me," he bellowed again.
Chi Cheng was hardly the type to be intimidated by belligerence, so he continued to squeeze him into a human hamburger patty. It was the last straw for Wu Suo Wei who freed himself and rolled up on top of Chi Cheng's body. Don't misunderstand: he wasn't lying chest-to-chest. Rather, the back of his head was pillowed on Chi Cheng's face, his messy hair deliberately prickling it. He thought he was getting a bit of revenge when in fact he was satisfying the craving in the other man's heart.
The scent of his ordinary shampoo smelled quite inviting, causing Chi Cheng to bury his face in Wu Suo Wei's hair. Wu Suo Wei went rigid. He was waiting for Chi Cheng to push him off, and instead, two arms came up and embraced him.
"Da Bao," Chi Cheng said, quietly.
Wu Suo Wei's dry throat croaked, "Huh."
"I am going on a business trip with the team leaders tomorrow. I should be back in four or five days."
Wu Suo Wei did not have strong feelings. Go ahead. I could use a few days of peace to do some serious business.
Chi Cheng spoke again. "Yue Yue is going with me."
Hearing these words, Wu Suo Wei stiffened perceptibly. Although he was already prepared for this and even, to some extent, was responsible for bringing it about, hearing the words directly from Chi Cheng's mouth suddenly changed their flavor.
He was silent for a while before opening his mouth to speak. "How nice, just like a vacation."
Wu Suo Wei guessed rightly that, after that text message was sent, Chi Cheng's love life became a source of much anxiety for Zhong Wen Yu. The first thing she did was to approach Chi Cheng's group leader to find out what type of arrangements, business trips specifically, were available for him to apply for.
It was really just a disguised vacation. She then found Chi Cheng, and pestered him unrelentingly to take Yue Yue. When Chi Cheng refused, Zhong Wen Yu wept and fell ill.
In reality, Chi Cheng knew that the business trip was a set-up, and he also knew that Zhong Wen Yu was worried. But what he did not know was that there was an instigator behind the whole thing who currently lay in his arms sulking.
"Da Bao," Chi Cheng called out.
Wu Suo Wei rolled off Chi Cheng's body and continued to lie on the bed. Chi Cheng resumed crowding him, but no matter how squeezed he was, he would not say anything but simply lay plastered against the wall, squashed like a ripe melon.
Chi Cheng was able to flirt, was able to tease, was able to threaten, was the master of every type of persuasion, but he was deficient in one skill: the art of pampering. He had a life-long aversion to using sweet, coaxing words. He never apologized, and he would not say one indulgent sentence.
But as luck would have it, someone had poked at his weak spot.
Wu Suo Wei was wearing a face as long as a 10 foot truck when a low voice was heard from behind.
"You're angry."
His complexion darkened. He scowled, pursed his lips, and rolled his eyes as he tersely bit off the words, "I'm fine."
Once more a question came from behind him, "Why won't you look at me?"
Wu Suo Wei couldn't wait to answer that question.
"I can't be bothered. Don't hold your breath."
No sooner had he spoken than he was rolled over until he was lying flat on his back. The twisting motion peeled back his bathrobe so that it was just hanging on by its belt, his chest laid bare like a pancake on a vendor's griddle. Chi Cheng's fiery gaze grilled the area as his big hands moved up toward those pecs. Chi Cheng's hands were rugged and tough, and Wu Suo Wei's body, supple and strong with remarkable flexibility, felt wonderful beneath his massaging hands.
"Don't do that to me." Wu Suo Wei vigorously twisted Chi Cheng's wrist.
Chi Cheng bit Wu Suo Wei's thin lip and crooned, "You're into it, so why can't I."
Wu Suo Wei's coarse, heavy breathing rumbled into Chi Cheng's throat.
"Chi Cheng, I'm fucking tired of you."
Chi Cheng grabbed Wu Suo Wei's wrists and held them together over his head, tongue sliding from collar bone to armpit moistening the hair there, lewdly pulling it with his teeth, drilling into his pores with that raging tongue. Wu Suo Wei's neck arced, and as his raspy breathing mingled with messy curses it seductively lingered in the ear.
There was not one square centimeter of his body that wasn't voluptuously erotic in Chi Cheng's considered opinion.
Wu Suo Wei's handsome face went crimson, but before he could protest, his mouth was blocked.
Perhaps it was the serious lack of love in the last few days, but this night Wu Suo Wei's pistol fired off more than one shot during the play. As he closed his eyes to sleep, wetness collected in the corners of his eyes. Chi Cheng, knowing he was upset, gently rubbed his forehead and said, "You of all people must not be angry with me."
Wu Suo Wei, bewildered, opened his eyes and asked," Why?"
After being silent for a long time, Chi Cheng opened his mouth.
"Because you are the only person whose anger upsets me. I will always keep my word to you."
What a pity that by the time Chi Cheng said these things, Wu Su Wei had fallen asleep.
It had been a while since they shared a bed, and they held each other as they slept.
After watching the evening's special performance, Xiao Cu Bao, its digestion nearly complete, shook its tail and slipped away from the bedside cabinets. Squeezing into the seam between the pair, it rested its pointy head on Wu Suo Wei's brow and quietly closed its eyes.
[T/N: In Chinese, the phrase "to share the bed" ( 同床共枕 ) also means "to be married"
Anne's Rant:
I have made a small mistake in Chapter 84 about the text message. Both Yue Yue and Wen Yu received anonymous messages. I thought it was a typo since they changed that part in movie. Please take note that this translation is based on the web version as I don't have the published version.
Please note that some part might be incorrect as we don't know how to translate the slangs and idioms to English and translators might rely on the pinyin. Mistakes are bound to happen and corrections are very welcome.
