Chapter 3: Natsu

-TIME SKIP-2 weeks
1st POV
"Back then I was always running away. Running away from my past. Except that day, I knew there was hope, even just a small amount..."
Not again! I'm so annoyed at myself for this. It keeps happening, over and over, taking my magic power for themselves and leaving me here on the ground... I don't know what they use it for. I can hear footsteps! But it doesn't sound like them... No. These are quieter and it seems like only one person. A gasp and they get quicker.
"Hey, you ok?" A boy's voice asks with a concerned tone. "Hey!" I try to look up, but my head hurts so badly. I try to speak but all that comes out is a groan of pain, muffled by the autumn leaves.
"I knocked out those guys who were hurting you... Sorry about my magic that threw you aside... I'm Natsu by the way, Natsu Dragneel. I take you could do with some help..." He picks me up and runs, finally stopping and placing me by a lake in a clearing. I manage a few words.
"Nice...to...meet...you...Natsu. Thankyou... For ...saving me"
I smile as much as I can manage. He notices my attempt and smiles back. He must be about my age, maybe a little older. He was wearing baggy white trousers and brown sandals with an unzipped black jacket, gold round the edges. He is also wearing a long white scarf, which looks very tough, almost as if it was made of dragon scales...
"What's your name? Why were those people hurting you?" He sits me up against a rock and hands me a flask of water.
"Thanks... I'm Oribu... Those people have been after me taking my magic power ever since...since..." I trail off, remembering Kristal.
"Since what? You're a wizard?" I took a deep breath. I don't even know this boy, yet I feel I can trust him.
"My dragon, Kristal was killed by those men. She taught me water magic." Natsu's face lit up.
"You're a dragon slayer too? I'm sorry... Your dragon.... I was looking for mine, Igneel, a fire dragon. Have you any idea where he could be?" I think for a second. There were a few other dragons about the place on Kristal's island, but they were all water magic ones.
"No, sorry... And it's ok, it's been two weeks, I'm used to running away from the people now. So you just must be a fire dragon slayer correct?" I ask.
"Yes. You look pretty bashed up. More water? I'm guessing that's what gets your power back..."
"Yeah, thank you so much for helping me, I've kind of forgotten what talking to people is like..." A thought crosses my mind. I can't stay here forever...
"Hey, it's Natsu right? Do you need any help finding your dragon?"
"I'd love you to come with me! I'm going different wizard guilds across Fiore and my next stop is in the town of Magnolia, at the guild Fairy Tail, to see if they can help. I've heard it's the best guild in all of Fiore!"
"Really? That'd be amazing!" I beam. A real friend, and a real guild too! He smiles and helps me up.
"So, you got a place to sleep around here? Oh and food would be nice too! " He says. I laugh.
"Yes, in that cave. It probably isn't much, we could find some fish and berries."
"Sure thing!"
-Later that evening, after eating-
"You're really accurate with your attacks! That's amazing!" Natsu said.
"You're really powerful!" I reply as he fells five trees. "If a little destructive..." I duck as a ball of flames fly over my head and hit a nearby tree. "Natsu! Don't burn the entire forest!" I say, dousing the flames using my water magic.
"Sorry..." He says looking sheepish. I was getting tired from all this magic usage.
"I'm gonna get some rest, okay?"
"Sure, I'll stay here for a bit." I walk into the cave.
I assumed Natsu had eventually gone inside, but he fell asleep on the rock near the cave. And that night, it happened again, while we were sleeping.
"That was going to be the last I saw of him for a very long time..."
