Chapter 5~ Story To Tell
The rest of my classes went by pretty slowly. Band was amazing. Yes I am a band geek. Biology was....boring. Vet sciences was interesting seeing as how I'm going to be a vet when I graduate. American Lit was easy and now I'm on my way to lunch and then I have two free periods. My classes are easy and most of the kids are friendly. I have Riley in all of my classes and Anjelica only in first period. Am I really going to fight her after school?
I shrugged.
Why not?
I need to practice. And besides she hates me and she pissed me off. I grabbed my food and looked around at the cafeteria. All the tables were filled practically. I sighed and walked past everyone and out the back door which lead to a little eating area outside. No one was out here which I found crazy. It was a beautiful day, why wouldn't anyone be out here? I shrugged and set my tray on the ground. I sat underneath a tree and started to eat and read a book.
"Hey Lils." A familiar voice said.
I rolled my eyes and put my book down.
"Well hello there Riley. What can I do for you?" I asked.
He shrugged and sat down next to me. I stared at him.
"Its RS by the way and at least you didn't-"
I punched him in the arm, stopping him mid-sentence.
"Never mind..." He groaned.
I smiled and started eating my food again.
"So that was quite the performance this morning." He said quietly after a while.
I shrugged.
"She started it. All I did was sit there."
He smiled and nodded.
"When I said find an enemy, I didn't mean Anjelica Thorns." He stated.
I looked at him.
"Why? Is there something wrong with her?"
He shook his head.
"No it's just....she's dangerous. No one has EVER stood up to her like that before. You got balls for doing a move like that." He said, laughing.
I rolled my eyes.
"She's a bitch who needs to be taught where her place is."
He nodded.
"Plus she needs a major attitude adjustment."
We both laughed.
"She's also my girlfriend..." He trailed off.
I stopped laughing.
"What?!" I yelled, getting up.
He looked at me.
"Don't worry though. You're right. She does need to be put in her place. Just....be careful? She's very quick and hard to beat."
I stared at him, completely confused.
"Why does it matter whether I get hurt or not? You don't care or like me, remember?"
He sighed but didn't answer. I rolled my eyes.
"Look you take care of your girlfriend and I'll take care of myself. That's how it's always been and I'm not gonna start depending on someone now." I said and turned around, walking towards the woods that surrounded the school.
"Hey wait...wait up!" He called.
I sighed and rolled my eyes but continued walking. He caught up to me.
"Don't you have somewhere better to be?" I asked, annoyed.
He smiled at me.
"Nope. Free period for the next two classes."
I stared at him.
"Please tell me you're joking."
He shook his head no and I moaned. We both stopped and stared at each other. I sighed. His green eyes connected with mine and I was in a trap. I looked away, blushing.
"Look I'm pretty sure you have somewhere to be like, I don't know with your girlfriend?"
He smiled and shook his head.
"Nope. She has class. Intensive reading and Algebra 2. Again."
I tried not to laugh.
"Okay well...."
I shrugged and turned around, walking towards the woods.
"I wouldn't go in there." He called after me.
I continued walking and he ran up to me.
"Those woods are haunted." He said.
I shrugged.
"They say a girl was raped and murdered in there. A girl that went to this school. Most likely your age too."
I smiled and looked at him.
"Are you trying to scare me? Cause it's not working."
He smiled and then shook his head.
"No I'm being serious!"
I stopped, crossed my arms over my chest and stared at him. He stopped.
"So are you saying I can't go into the woods?" I asked.
He nodded. I rolled my eyes.
"Fine."
I turned around and started walking towards the parking lot. Riley ran up to me.
"Do you wanna go somewhere?" He blurted.
I stared at him.
"Go somewhere? I can't leave I have a fight to attend in three hours." I said.
He rolled his eyes.
"We'll be back by then. Come on I wanna show you around." He said.
I looked at him. Show me around? Is this guy crazy or just bipolar?
"Are you bipolar?" I asked.
He looked at me confused.
"Um no why?"
"Because first you tell me you hate me. Then you're telling me to be careful and now you want to show me around? Next you're going to be piling manure up in my locker."
He smiled and looked at his shoes.
"Oh and by the way, what's your locker number?"
I smiled and punched him in the arm.
"Jerk."
He smiled and then nodded his head towards the parking lot.
"Come on."
He grabbed my hand and started dragging me towards the cars.
"I'm not hot-wiring anything so don't ask!" I announced.
He stopped short and looked at me.
"You know how to hot wire?" He asked, shocked.
I nodded.
"I know all about cars."
This wasn't a lie. I know all about cars. How else would I be fixing my mustang? He stared at me.
"What?" I asked, getting self-conscious.
He shook his head like he was trying to clear it and we continued walking. We stopped in front of an old, beat up, Ford pick-up truck. It definitely needed a new paint job. He unlocked it.
"Wait.....you rode the bus this morning so....."
"The twins, Dylan and Austin borrowed it." He answered.
I nodded and he got in.
"Well are you coming or not?"
I looked at him and then back at the school. I shrugged and hopped in the truck. He started the car and backed out of the parking spot, zooming away from the school.
"So is this considered skipping?" I asked.
He smiled.
"Yup."
I sighed.
"Thanks bad boy. Got me, the new chopped meat, skipping on the first day of school."
He looked at me apologetically.
"I'm sorry about this morning." I
rolled my eyes and laughed.
"Whatever."
He laughed.
"I'm serious. I thought you were just like everyone else. I was wrong though. Your different and you gotta story to tell."
I stared at him. Neither if us spoke after his compliment. I just looked out the window.
"So where are we going?" I asked finally.
He smiled.
"I'm giving you a real tour of Cocoa Beach. Something a tourist would never get." He stated.
My eyebrow shot up.
"Really?"
He smiled and nodded. We continued to drive and I started playing with the radio.
"What do you think you're doing?" He asked.
I rolled my eyes.
"Changing your radio station because it's starting to make my ears bleed."
He glared at me and I smiled. I put it on 101.5 and I Like It Like That by Hot Chelle Rae was on. I smiled and turned it up so it was super loud. The windows were all open too which made it even better. I started singing and just jammin' out to the song. I looked over at Riley and saw that he was staring at me.
"What?" I yelled over the music.
He shook his head. I smiled.
"Come on! Have some fun!" I yelled.
He smiled and shook his head. Within the next hour or so, I had, somehow, managed to get him to dance and sing in his seat. I kept looking out the window, at all of the beautiful scenery. We continued to drive around until I saw the clock say 1:30. I looked at him and he nodded. We headed back to the school and he turned the music down as we entered the parking lot. He parked the car and that's when the nervousness started to set in. I took a deep breath and hopped out of the car.
"Lily!" Riley yelled from his car.
I turned around.
"Good luck."
I nodded and waved, walking towards the bleachers on the football field. I knew exactly why Riley hadn't followed me.
Today never happened.
He didn't take me sight-seeing.
Or that's what his girlfriend thought.
While I was thinking to myself, the bell rang. I looked towards the school door and saw Anjelica. She looked straight at me. Let the fighting begin.
