Keal

By MichiiMichii

Keal

I gave them closure, yes. But what now? It’s not like you’re ever going to get the girl. Keal, you traitor.

What was the reason I convinced them to talk again? Oh, yea. I was hoping they’d finally end it. Their twisted little relationship. Michi was still tied up to her past with Drake. She never knew why.. And Drake could never get over the fact that he left Michi hanging like that.

And hey were siblings. They had to put an end to their story.

You thought you had a chance. Yes, I did. That’s just the kind of scum I really am. You left Drake’s team to join her brother’s not because you saw better potential in that other team, not because Drake was becoming too much to handle, but because you had better chances of seeing her.

But.. she knew I existed. Heck, I could see it in her eyes way back when we first met that she can never get over my eyes. That’s all she knows about me, though. The boy with the grey eyes and Drake’s bestfriend who was never really around to hang out with them since the sight of them being together tore his head apart.  I thought I had a chance, and I was willing to take it even if it meant breaking it off with Drake forever. But then came Mikhail.

Jayson. Gandrick. Fcking. Mikhail.

He wasn’t supposed to be there, snooping around and listening in as Michi and Drake messed with each other’s heads. But then I thought, this would be like killing two birds with one stone. He’d flip when he finds out about this twisted relationship two biological siblings had. He’d be so disgusted he’d leave her then and there. I mean, imagine what people would think of you when they realize you were screwing with your own brother!

But he’s not like you. No, no. You’re wrong, he’s just like me. Don’t you dare say he isn’t.

. . . .

Keal dropped his gaze from the bathroom mirror. There it is again. The other man inside him was arguing with him again. No medications or check-ups, though. He knew he was already fucked up. He just doesn’t want to know by how much.

Grabbing the towel next to him, the dried himself up and quickly dressed. In ten minutes, he was off to congratulate Jayson for giving up on his useless deal. Word travels fast. He could strike up  a little conversation, bring in a little empathy. Then he’d ..

What are you gonna do next? Go up to the girl and confess your love? Keep dreaming.

He shook away the sarcastic tone ringing in his head and headed out. It was early and he found Jayson lounging about in the field with his hand bandaged up and smiling to himself like an idiot. He approached casually, making sure he didn’t seem too obvious.

“Mikhail. So the rumor was true. You got bandaged up pretty bad, huh?”

Jayson looked up. “Ah. Keal.” He was calling him by his first name? Really? He examined his hand a moment before standing up. “Oh, this? False alarm. Just a scratch and Myk overreacted.”

Keal pursed his lips. Too bad. “Also, I hear you ended the deal?”

Jayson assessed him for a moment. “Wow. News travels fast, huh?”

Keal shrugged. You have no idea.

“Yeah, we ended it.”

Internally, Keal smiled.

“We have a new agreement, though.”

Haha, what?

Keal blinked. “I’m sorry, what?”

Jayson stepped closer to Keal that they were on eye-level.

“I asked her out,” He shrugged as if it were the most obvious conclusion that this story was going to end with. “And if we win, she’ll give me an answer.”

“You..?”

Jayson stared at him a moment. They never really had a conversation alone before and it never struck him as odd as to why Keal Marcus would approach him.

“No, no, no. Mikhail, no!”

Jayson was taken aback. And Keal was furious.

“Why would you ask her out? You’ve only known her for a few days!”

Jayson took a step back. “That. It is none of your business.”

Keal’s grey eyes became clouded. “And you know about her and Drake,” Keal took a step closer. “That’s why you ended the first deal, right? You saw them together, and it disgusted you how two people who turn out to be siblings go out with each other. Revolting, isn’t it?”

It felt like he was slapped in the face. Was I..disgusted? Jayson thought to himself. Well, was he?

“But then you thought it didn’t matter. You wanted her so bad so you came crawling back to her and made another sick little deal.”

Jayson stood frozen. This isn’t what he thought, was it? Is this why he couldn’t point a finger to what he was feeling?

I don’t know. I really don’t know, Jayson thought.

Keal moved past Jayson – it was too late. He let someone see his fucked up self in broad daylight so he might as well end it. He waved in front of Mikhail the disgusting little personality he’d kept in the dark.

“You, Mikhail, are one sick human being.”

And so are you, Keal Marcus, the voice in his head sang. Give up, give up. You will never have her.

He left Jayson Mikhail with his brains scattered on the grass. Good, give him doubt. Give a name to what he was feeling.

Keal kept walking and walking, not a destination in mind. He passed by the court, and kept walking. He ended up in the football field wherein Kaile Martin had the crowd going wild with his first goal of the game. Michi was there on the stadium right across from him. As if sensing his stare, she looked up from her discussion with the council, turned to his direction, and waved.

His heart fell. Even from where he was standing, she’d seen him. She was supposed to be his. Not Drake’s. Not Mikhail’s.

“She was mine first.”

. . . .

It had been raining that day and he had forgotten his umbrella. It didn’t matter, though. Let the rain soak him. He needed to at least hide the disappointment and frustration he’s feeling.

Failed. He failed the try-outs. Only Drake got in. Well, the dude has talent, who wouldn’t want him on their team? Drake was gracious enough not to rub his failure to his face but he let the tiny bit of info about meeting with the Black Eagles and having a friendly match with them next week. He’d been a fan of the Black Eagles. He was never jealous of Drake, though, not until.. her.

She was soaking wet as she waited for the bus. She was beautiful. Exquisite. Perfect. He slowly made his way and stood next to her. She immediately turned to him, assessing his rain-soaked uniform. And when their eyes met, her hands impulsively reached up for his cheeks.

Such familiarity with a stranger. But he let her touch him anyway.

“Beautiful,” she said while running a finger up his temple.

He opened his mouth to speak, but he was stunned by her melodic voice.

“You have.. beautiful eyes.”

And then she was gone. Up the bus, and out of his sight. He wanted to find her. And he did. Arms linked with Drake.

He wanted her. He thought..

No, no. He can never have the girl.

Never.
