Later that night Raphael had brought Afina back to the hotel and let her rest in his room
He walked over to Simon who was standing outside Raphaels door biting his nail nervously before he looked up at Raphael
"We need to tell them" Simon said putting his arms down and Raphael nodded turning his head to Afina slightly "I'll call Alec I told him I'd call him back"
Simon pulled out his phone and called Alec's phone this time
"Simon now is really not a good time" Alec said slightly annoyed with the new vampire
"It's Afina, Alec I said I'd call you back" Simon reasoned
"So I have to worry about both my sisters now?" He sighed
"What? What's going on with Izzy?" Simon asked worried
"It's nothing Simon. Put him on speaker I want to hear to" he heard Izzy tell Alec
"Alright well uh Afina is kind of not a shadowhunter anymore" Simon rambled confusing the siblings
"What do you mean? What happened?" Izzy asked
"She kind of is a-" Raphael rolled his eyes at the slow pace he was going and grabbed the phone from him "hey!"
"Afina had vampire blood in her system she didn't want to tell you because she didn't think she'd die" Raphael explained
"What's that supposed to mean? Is Afina alright?! Alec do you know what there talking about?" Izzy asked getting more and more worried
"She was killed we don't know by who but she died with the blood still in her system, she made me promise to turn her I didn't break that promise she's a vampire now" Raphael explained to Izzy as Alec already knew
"Is that Izzy?" Raphael and Simon turned there head toward the voice to see Afina standing up from the bed
Raphael nodded slightly handing the phone to her
"Izzy?" Afina croaked on the verge of tears as her sister replied immediately
"Afina please tell me it isn't true" Izzy begged her sister
"It is Izzy. I'm sorry I understand if you hate me now" she said holding a hand to her head in an attempt to calm her mind
"I don't hate you Afina I could never hate you I'm just glad you aren't dead-dead. If clary and Simon can keep there friendship I pretty sure we can stay siblings" Izzy said trying to lighten the mood
Afina was about to say something when she heard more talking
"Afina we have to go, come to the institute I'll invite you in and I'll explain everything ok?" Izzy asked
"Ok" Afina said before hanging up and tossing the phone to Simon and then started to gather a new set of clothes
When she changed she started to leave when Raphael stopped her
"Where are you going?" He asked
"To the institute my sister needs me, she's still my sister. Please Raphael I'll be back before sun rise and if not I'll stay at the institute until dark ok?" Afina asked and Raphael reluctantly let her go
Afina smiled lightly before pressing a kiss to his cheek and running out the door and running to the institute as fast as she could
Afina texted Alec when she showed up at the church door and he opened the door looking behind him before inviting her in
"So what's going on?" She asked
"Lydia prosecuted Izzy" Alec said
"Who?" Afina asked as they walked to the room with Izzy waiting inside
"His fiancé" Izzy said disgust evident in her tone.
"Fiancé?" Afina asked looking at Alec and he rolled his eyes
"Look we are here for Izzy alright?" He asked and Afina nodded before turning to Izzy
"So what's going on?" She asked
"They think I helped in letting Meliorn escape" she explained rubbing her hands together as she looked down at the floor
"That's no reason to prosecute you! You could be killed" Afina said
"Unless we get the cup" Alec said
"We can't get the cup! We don't know where Clary or Jace are!" Izzy yelled frustration consuming her
Afina walked up to Izzy and sat down next to her and took her hand
"You'll be ok, I promise I'll do anything to protect you even if I am a vampire" she said and Izzy smiled at her
"I saw the way Simon was when he first turned he wanted blood all the time, why don't you?" She asked
"I guess I'm stronger I was a Shadowhunter I grew up like this he grew up Mundane" Afina said and Izzy nodded
"We still love you" Izzy nudged her head towards Alec who nodded in agreement "no matter what"
Afina smiled at her siblings before pulling Izzy into a hug
Izzy stood up again the frustration and anger again consuming her
"You know what I'd rather be stripped of my runes and sent to exile then to live in this world, I don't want to live in a world where only law matters" Izzy said turning to Alec
"That's very noble Izzy, but the highworlds not going to look so great when you're running for life from a pack of demons with no shadowhunter powers to protect you." Alec said
"Jocelyn lived as a Mundane" Izzy tried to reason
"You know Jocelyn had her runes and her weapons, you think the demons won't find you? You haven't exactly kept a low profile, you can't just let them convict you. You need an
advocate" Alec stated walking up to her
Izzy looked out the window before turning to her brother with a smile smirk on her face "if I have to have an advocate I want it to be Magnus Bane"
Alec let out a breath of air before nodding "fine I'll be back both of you stay here"
"Not like I can go anywhere the suns out" Afina said arms raised and Alec rolled his eyes before he left to get Magnus
Izzy turned to her sister with a smirk on her face
"What?" She asked
"You know what, now tell me all about him" Izzy stated and sat next to her on the couch and Afina let out a small chuckle
"What do you want to know?" She asked
"Everything" Izzy replied
"He's protective of me, he kept his promise, he doesn't let anyone touch me even if I'm mad at him" Afina smiled to herself
"He's in love" Izzy said shortly looking at her sister before her smile grew "you are also in love"
"What no that's not true, we aren't even dating... I think- I - I don't know anymore" Afina looked down
"Love at first sight" Izzy smiled and before Afina could reply she stood up "come on I have to get ready the hearing is starting in ten minutes"
Izzy stood up and quickly got dressed before her and Afina walked down to where the hearing was being held
Afina gave her a nod and a small smile and Izzy smiled a little in return before Afina sat down next to Alec
"Will I survive if I touch it?" Magnus asked pointing at the sword
"If you tell the truth" the lady said and Magnus looked away showing a little bit of worry before grabbing the sword
"By the power of this sword do you swear to defend your client with integrity and honesty?" The silent brother asked
"No argument from me on that" Magnus said before taking his hands off the sword and facing the judge
"Make your case warlock" she said
"My case is simple, it is true that my client acted against the rules to save Meliorn, but she did not act against the interest of the clave. Preventing the possible death of a Selee may have saved the accords" Magnus explained
"We're not here to speculate what might have happened if the defended hadn't interfered" she said
"You mean what might have happened if she didn't stop the silent brothers from torturing a Selee" Magnus said
"I await a valid argument do you have one?" She asked impatient with Magnus
Afina looked to her side to see Alec roll his eyes at her.
"What you really want is the mortal cup, my client doesn't have it. This whole proceeding isn't about what it's really about, I move to have this case dismissed" Magnus said with confidence
"You're out of order" she stated and Magnus smirked slightly
"Oh, this whole thing is out of order. It's not Isabelle's fault it's the cup. Put the cup on trial" he demanded before he sat next to Izzy and Izzy went up to the front next to the judge
A women stood up next with long blonde hair who Afina didn't recognize she turned to Alec and asked who she was
"That's Lydia" he said and she nodded before facing the front
"You led us to believe that you alone carried out this operation, but Clary Fairchild was seen near the city of bones that night" Lydia said her hand resting on the desk
"Maybe she was out for a walk" Izzy said not giving away what really happened
"And you expect us to believe that you distracted the guards and escaped with the prisoner on your own?" She asked crossing her arms
"I'm pretty slick, right?" She turned to the judge who looked at her in distaste
"I suggest you think about how slick it would be when Valentine uses the cup to make rouge shadowhunters" she said and Izzy looked at her
"I don't want Valentine to succeed" Izzy said glaring at the women
"Well that's the first sane thing I've heard from you" she said glaring back at Izzy
"You know what's insane? Thinking that we have the right to treat a downworlders life as worthless" Izzy said and Afina smiled agreeing completely with her sister
"Isabelle I should warn you that everything you say here will be considered in the verdict" Lydia said
"Good" Izzy said before standing up "consider this Valentine didn't come out of nowhere we use our angel blood to justify everything we do just like him, like him we forget we are not only angels we are also Mundane. We can be afraid and fear makes us cruel and we turn our fear to downworlders just as Valentine did, and just as he did we will end up turning on each other" Izzy said
"You think we're doing that to you?" The judge asked and Izzy turned her head towards her
"You'll have to answer that for yourself" she said before taking her seat next to Magnus who stood moments later
"I'd like to call Lydia Branwell to the stand" Magnus stated
"I don't see the relevance" the judge said
"Well that makes two of us I don't see the relevance of this whole trail, miss Branwell if you'd take the stand" Magnus said looking towards her as Lydia stood up and walked to the front and sat down
"I just have one question, why are you prosecuting this case?" Magnus asked
"Answer the question counselor" the lady said looking down at Lydia
"Because the law is hard but it is the law" she stated making Magnus roll his eyes he went to speak when she continued "but that doesn't make it right, we're trying someone for being compassionate thinking for herself. She saved a life that was being sacrificed for nothing" Lydia said more confident in what she's doing
"That will be enough Branwell" the judge said glaring down at her
"No it isn't, looking out at the faces here a brother and his sisters who disagree on everything except for how much they love one another. And how loyal they are to each other, a man who took this case who pretends to want payment in rare objects but believes that injustice towards his friends is intolerable. Loyalty, compassion, love these are the concepts we should consider between guilt or innocence in a case like this" Lydia said looking up at the judge
"Those are not the concepts of the law, now enough of this nonsense" she demanded
"I agree, the case is nonsense. I withdraw the charges!" Lydia said standing up and everyone cheered
Afina and Alec ran up to Izzy giving her a hug and they pulled away to see Magnus toss the papers in his case as Izzy hugged Lydia
They were continuing to hug one another when they heard the judge yelling and they went quiet and turned to the front
"If you think refusing to punish them will work you are wrong, she is guilty. The defense was correct the clave wants the mortal cup. If returned in twenty-four hours this ruling will be vacated if not Isabelle lightwood will be stripped of her runes and exiled from the society of shadowhunters forever" with that the hearing was over
Afina turned to her sister who was on the verge of tears and she pulled Izzy into a hug and pulled away to face Lydia
"I don't think we've met yet but I really appreciate what you tried to do for Izzy, I'm Afina" she smiled and Lydia did as well
"I'm Lydia, and I know what you are your fangs are showing" she whispered the last part "don't worry I won't tell" at this Afina smiled gratefully
Before she and Alec walked away as they heard from Jace and Clary that they were back
Both of the siblings leaned against the door with stone cold looks on there face as they looked at the pair before them
"Clary gave Lydia the cup Hodge is taking care of her until she goes back to Idris" Jace explained
"Ok" Alec said
"Ok?!" Jace said annoyed "that's it Alec?"
"I don't want to get into it" he said about to walk away
"Ya well I do." Afina said stepping past Jace and glaring at Clary
"where were you Clary?!" Afina yelled at the girl
"Excuse me?" She asked
"You heard me you almost got Izzy killed" Afina raged
"I gave them the cup!" Clary yelled
"Barely if you waited any longer my sister would have been banished" Afina said through gritted teeth
"Enough! Afina I've had about enough of you! Now I've had the crappiest day you could have and I don't need your bullshit on top of it" Jace explained and Afina crossed her arm
"You're done with me? With me?! I don't think you understand Jace I've been done with you. You have repeatedly abandoned your family for your little girlfriend here-" Afina was cut off by Jace
"She's not my girlfriend" he said
"I don't freaking care what she is! You are there brother adopted or not. I am there sister adopted or not but I refuse to be known as Jace waylands sister that title is Izzys. You are not my brother you can be done with me when I actually did something that could get you killed like you did with all of us for her" with that Afina stormed off and Jace turned to Alec
"She's right you know, and she actually died but you wouldn't know because you weren't here. She's a vampire Jace" Alec explained before walking away as well
By now it was dark and Afina decided to go back to the hotel but she wanted to tell her brother and sister
She walked into the room to see Izzy slightly freaking out and Magnus trying to comfort her and seconds later Alec walked in
"Jace and Clary are back, they gave the cup to Lydia. You're free to go!" Alec smiled down at his sisters who were standing next to each other
"You were right! They came back! You knew!" Izzy smiled giving Alec a hug
"I didn't actually" Alec smiled pulling Afina into the hug as well
"Well my work is done here, walk me out will you? We have some business to settle" with that Magnus left
"Go I'll be fine" Izzy smiled and he pulled his sisters into one last hug before leaving and Afina turned to Izzy
"I have to go back to the hotel before sunrise" she sighed and Izzy looked down
"Do you have to? You could stay here" Izzy reasoned
"No Izzy I can't, I love you and the shadow world but I'm safer where my people are, I have to deal with it" she smiled sadly and Izzy took her sisters hands
"You can always come here whenever" she smiled and they hugged "now go before the sun comes up"
Afina smiled one last time before leaving and quickly making her way to the hotel
When she got there she saw Raphael waiting outside
"Why are you out here?" She asked
"Waiting for you to come home" he smiled as she went up to him and they engulfed each other in a hug
"I've had a very long day" she sighed
"Come on let's go inside and talk about your stressful day" he chuckled slightly and she nodded loving the feel of his arms around her
"Just a minute, I wanna stay here for a minute in your arms, I love being in your arms" she sighed closing her eyes as he smiled
He kissed the top of her head and they stood there for a few minutes taking in the warmth, comfort and love from the other
