Chapter 8
Though late, she went to school anyway. This time though, siya pa ang nag-request na magpahatid at magpabantay sa mga bodyguards niya. Noon, talagang silang tatlo nina Missy at Nina ang may bodyguards. Yung sa kanya kasi, para na sa kanila ni Trixie. Pero Nina tried to convince her parents and they agreed telling her that she can’t blame them if paparazzi would pester her. Although parents lang nito ang connected sa Hollywood, dinudumog pa rin kasi ito ng mga paparazzi. Doon siya nagkaroon ng lakas ng loob na tanungin ang Dad niya kung pwede bang tanggalan na rin siya ng bodyguards. He said no. Every time he comes home from his business trips she would ask him but he would firmly say no.
“If you try to stay out of trouble, I might think about it.” He told her.
This year though, when she asked her Dad again, napilit niya na ito. It was weird though that he just said yes like he didn’t really care anymore when she asked him but what the hell, he said yes. That’s why si Missy na lang ang merong mga asungot na nakabuntot. Pero ngayon, kailangan niya ang mga bodyguard niya to make her plan successful.
Anyway, she always thought that the reason why she had bodyguards before was not really to protect her from bad people but to prevent her from escaping or cut class which she did even more frequently when she had no bodyguards anymore because it was so much easier. And class was boring as hell.
Even though her Dad acts like she is the perfect good daughter, she knows he knows about her piling bad records in school. When her Dad is around, it is like she’s got another identity. Sa Dad niya lang napapakita ang sweetness niya. Ito ang pinakapaborito niyang lambingin.
Pag umuuuwi kasi ito, he really gives her his undivided attention. Nakagawian na nito iyon mula nang iniwan sila ng Mom niya. Para bang pinupunan nito ang space ng walang kwentang asawa nito.
Ugh, bakit pa ba napunta doon sa walang kwenta niyang nanay ang pagmumuni-muni niya. Yan tuloy, napansin niyang nakasimangot na siya which is not usual for her.
“We’re here Miss Izzy.” Sabi ng driver/bodyguard niya.
Ang tatlo kasi, nakasunod sa likod with the freaky black hybrid GMC Yukon. Ganung model din ang sinasakyan niya ngayon kasi protocol daw eh, kaya wala na siyang magawa. It looks cool and super ‘celebrity guarded’ like pero talagang nakakairita.
“Remember, I don’t want anyone near me except my girls, okay? Even if they say they are my boyfriend or something.” Sinabihan niya ang bodyguard niya.
Tumango naman ito at mukhang ginawang batas ng buhay nito ang sinabi niya. Bata pa ito, maybe in his mid-twenties. She heard he quit his job early as Her Majesty's Royal Marines. Nobody knows the reason why. Hindi ito gaya ng iba niyang bodyguards na parang mga bouncer ang mga katawan. Katamtaman ang mga muscles nito and matangkad. Hindi hindrance yung pagkakasakto ng built nito because she’d seen him in action before. He’d saved her ass after she kicked a drunken man’s willy in a pub. Her Dad trusts him and she does too.
“After I get inside my class, go get your passes and get back to me immediately, okay Brigham?” She added.
He nodded again in response and got out of the vehicle and went to her side of the car and opened the door for her.
She got out of the car and walked papunta sa loob ng school kasunod ang mga bodyguards. Biglang sumulpot ang tatlo niyang mga kaibigan sa tabi niya with questioning looks pero sinabayan siya ng lakad. Nadagdagan din ang mga bodyguards sa likod nila dahil andun na din ang mga kay Missy. Imagine it na lang nung andun din yung mga kay Nina. They are like Hollywood actresses walking the pathways of their creepy castle-like school. Typical in London. Thanks sa Harry Potter mas madali na niyang ma-describe ang school nila. Hogwarts daw ika nga.
Pinagtitinginan ulit sila ng mga students na nadadaanan nila. Sanay na sila sa ganun. Maybe nagtataka lang ang mga ito bakit andito na naman ang mga bodyguards niya.
“Hello Brigham! You guys are back keeping this girl from trouble, huh?” Nakangiting sabi ni Trixie kay Brigham.
They became close too because Trixie was added for them to protect when they were assigned to be her bodyguard. She spared a glance at him too when Trixie giggled because of what he did. She saw that he actually gave Trixie a little smile which is so odd. Brigham doesn’t know how to smile.
“Aww. She’s gonna crush your heart Brigham. Don’t expect too much.” She teased him. Biglang nawala ang smile nito at mas ni-straighten pa ang likod. Boys.
“Brigham, you are so cute when you smile!” Biglang sabi ni Missy na lumingon din pala.
“Oh crap! Are you blushing there buddy?” Singit pa ni Nina.
Nakita niyang pigil lahat ang tawa ng fellow bodyguards nito.
“Okay, stop that you guys. Brigham’s not use to having the spot light on him.” Pagpapatigil sa kanila ni Trixie.
“Fine…” They chorused while smiling.
“It was cute seeing him blush though.” Dagdag pa ni Nina and they all laughed.
“So, bakit balik serbisyo ang mga iyan?” Curious na tanong ni Trixie. Remember they always talk in Tagalog when they don’t want anyone hearing their conversation.
Missy and Nina are also talking so she decided she can spill it with Trixie. She can trust all of them pero Trixie’s her bestest friend.
“Dahil ba ‘to sa nangyari kahapon?” Dagdag na tanong ni Trixie.
“You knew at hindi mo ako ti-next?” Bigla niyang tanong dito.
“Hey, he made us promise, okay? Atsaka, gusto naming lahat makita ang reaksyon mo.” She smiled and nudged her teasingly. “Sayang lang nga at nakita siya ni Kuya. You know Kuya being the ‘follow rules and regulations’ guy. He insisted that Clark should get permission from the Dean first. He was such a kill joy yesterday. Alam mo bang malapit na sila magsuntukan? Funny! You know na hindi naman pumapatol sa away si Kuya diba? Pero yesterday, you should have seen him! It was awesome seeing him like that. It’s like he transformed from being this cute obedient puppy to an angry bear.” Trixie said at nag-ala grizzly pa ito na itinaas ang kamay at nag make face na nilalabas ang ‘fangs’ niya.
“Wait, your Kuya did what? Seryoso ka?” Shocked niyang tanong sa kaibigan habang namimilog ang mata.
“Yeah well, Clark almost punched him you know. When I mean almost, Clark already threw a punch at iniwasan lang yun ni Kuya like in the Matrix movie. He was unbelievably fast. We could really use him in the cheerleading.” And Trixie laughed na para bang napakaimposible ng sinabi nito.
Napatawa din siya. She can never imagine Deiderick the nerd as a cheerleader though she would really want to see him in a fitting cheerleader outfit. But wait, really? Malapit napaaway si Deiderick? Was it for her? Did he do it to save her? Oh no, it was to abide by the rules. Hindi naman ugali ni Deiderick tulungan siya. Ano ba ang iniisip niya—
Biglang nahinto ang pag-iisip niya ng naramdaman niya ang super higpit na hawak ni Trixie sa braso niya. Tiningnan niya ito pero hindi ito nakatingin sa kanya kundi sa kaharap nila. Tiningnan niya rin and napasapo ng noo. It is Trixie’s all time crush, Spencer.
“You know what, you should really go talk to him.” Sabi niya sa kaibigan niya at tinulak papunta kay Spencer at sa kasamaang palad nasubsob ito sa likod nito.
“Hey watch it!” Spencer shouted.
Biglang parang pupuntahan ni Brigham para tulungan si Trixie pero pinigilan niya. She won’t let him ruin this moment her best friend had been waiting for since like forever.
Trixie glared at her but she only smiled back.
“Is this for real? Are they really going to talk already?” Bulong sa kanya ni Missy. Well, Missy tiptoed pero hanggang shoulders niya pa rin ito. Ito kasi ang pinakamaliit sa grupo. Tumatalon ito na parang siya ang may crush kay Spencer.
“Hey stop that!” Nina snapped at her. Tumigil naman ito.
“I’m sorry Spencer. I tripped and—and you were there and--- I—I did not see you … I’m just gonna go. I’m sorry again.” Pautal-utal na namumulang sabi ni Trixie. Tumalikod ito kay Spencer at pumunta sa kanila.
Sabay-sabay nila itong pinaharap ulit kay Spencer at hinawakan nila ito sa braso, hila-hila para hindi makawala.
“Hi Spencer!” Missy said in her high-pitched voice.
“Ahmm… Hi guys.” Alanganin ang smile na binigay nito sa kanila kasi hindi naman usual na nikikipag-usap sila kung kani-kanino lang, pero nang nakita nitong hawak nila ang braso ni Trixie, he smiled sympathetically at her.
“Do you know that Trixie is hosting a party at her house this Saturday?” Missy said enthusiastically.
“Ahmm, no.” Sagot naman ni Spencer.
“You should totally come!” She said.
“Yeah! Izzy’s right, you should totally come!” Nakisali na rin si Nina.
“Wow, that would be cool!” Excited na sagot nito pero parang napawi when he looked at Trixie’s grimacing face. “But I don’t think Trixie would like me there.” He said sadly.
Kinurot niya si Trixie sa tagiliran dahil hindi man lang nito ni-correct si Spencer.
“NO!” Nabiglang sigaw ni Trixie.
Lalo namang lumungkot ang mukha ni Spencer. “That’s okay.”
“I mean yes, I would like you to come Spencer.” Trixie said nervously.
Napangisi naman silang apat.
“Are you sure? Cool!” Excited na sagot nito.
“Yeah. You can bring your friends too if you want.” Trixie answered.
“Thanks. I would. So, see you guys on Saturday?” Nakangiting sabi nito sa kanila.
“Sure. See yah.” Chorus nilang apat.
At tumalikod na ito at umalis.
Isang minute pa ang hinintay nila bago pa tuluyang nag-absorb kay Trixie ang nangyari.
“Guys, I have a problem.” Sabi nito. Nakatingin ito sa sahig.
“What problem? You just had a true conversation with your dream guy, Trix.” Sagot naman ni Nina.
“Yeah, I just did and it was great but… One problem. About the party. How am I gonna host one?” Nakasimangot nitong tanong.
“Did you forget about the trip your Dad and Mom planned this Saturday?” Tanong ni Missy.
“No.” Sagot ni Trixie.
“So? What’s the problem?” Tanong niya.
“That would mean I would ask permission from my Kuya.”
Natahimik silang tatlo.
“Oh crap.” Bulong niya sa sarili.

Think. Think of a way to help Trixie. That’s her mission before the day ends.
Pero every plan niya, dead end. Kung bakit pa kasi humantong na ang dapat hingian ng paalam ngayon ng best friend niya ay ang Kuya nito. Mas malaki pa kasi ang possibility na payagan ito ng parents nito kaysa Kuya nito. Kung papayag man ito, malamang, sobrang laki ng kapalit.
Gosh! Masisira na ang utak ko!
Gusto niyang lumigaya ang best friend niya pero kung ang haharapin niya rin lang naman ay ang masungit nitong Kuya, aba eh maghahanap na lang siguro siya ng ibang makakapagpaligaya dito.
Pero nga si Spencer ang source ng happiness nito at the only chance is this Saturday.
“Babe!” Tawag ng boses.
Oh, not now Clark!
Lumingon siya sa paligid. Her bodyguards are nowhere in sight kasi nga shower room ito ng mga babaeng cheerleaders. Dito siya pumunta para makapag-isip kung paano makumbinsi si Deiderick na pumayag magparty sa bahay nila this Saturday. Walang tao dito kasi wala silang practice this day. No choice tuloy siya kundi harapin ito. If things gets worse, dala niya din naman ang emergency GPS button sa bag niya na automatic magco-connect and contact her guards.
“Babe, I have been looking for an opportunity to talk to you for the whole day.” Sabi ni Clark habang kitang-kita sa itsura nito ang frustration na pinagdaanan for the whole day.
“Oh.” That’s all she can say.
“We have to talk. About last night.”
“Good. I wanted to tell you something too.” Sabi niya dito.
Since bulilyaso ang whole purpose niya sa pagpayag ulit na bantayan siya ng bodyguards niya para hindi siya malapitan ni Clark, she is going to confront him.
“Okay. You tell it first so I can tell you what I want uninterrupted.” He smiled at her and then bigla siya nitong niyakap. Tapos siguro when he was satisfied, he put distance between them already. “Now, tell me what you want to tell me.” Naka-smile nitong sabi sa kanya.
If this gorgeous man is really in-love with her, she is a very lucky bitch. On the contrary though, she doesn’t feel any luck right now. She doesn’t feel anything deep for him na kahit konti man lang ma-consider niyang “feelings”. Gosh! Ganoon ba talaga siya katigas?
I mean he is a good guy who would do anything for me! Why am I not feeling anything? Tanong niya sa sarili. I need to do this to him to make it less painful. I need to breakup with him.
“Look Clark,” Hinawakan niya ang shoulders nito at pinaupo. Hinawakan din nito ang kamay niya at pinatabi dito. She got cold feet. He has been her good friend for years already. But she needs to do this. “You know you are special to me---”
Bigla siya nitong hinawakan sa shoulders at pinaharap dito.
“Wait. Is this the time that you are going to confess your love to me? Because I need to tell you something first.” Super excited nitong turan. His eyes sparkled with so much love Deiderick told her about. There it is. And she just saw it now.
Bollocks! And he even thinks I am confessing!
“Wait Clark. I am here to---” she looked into his eyes and her heart thumped loudly. He is a great man. She can’t hurt him. “I am here to tell you that we shouldn’t be too serious about our relationship.” There, she said that instead of ‘I am here to breakup with you’.
“W-what?” He looked bewildered. He surely did not expect that line from her.
“We can still be exclusive but don’t close the opportunity of meeting new girls, you know.” Sabi niya dito habang hindi makatingin ng diretso.
“What is this about Izzy?” Bigla itong tumayo at binitiwan ang kamay niya.
“This is about us enjoying our high school life.”
“Enjoying? You want us to meet other people and yet you still said that we can be exclusive. What is that, a joke?” Pigil ang pagsigaw nito sa kanya. Nakatingin na ito sa kanya at nakikita niyang nanginginig.
“It is not. At least I did not breakup with you.”
“So you were planning to breakup with me, huh?” Mukhang galit na talaga ito.
“N-No.”
“You suck in lying Izz. I hope you know that.”
“I know.”
“So, did you plan on breaking up with me?”
“Yes. And if you prefer it more than us still exclusive, then it is much better. I am breaking up with you.” At bigla siyang tumayo at umalis.
Ilang seconds pa siguro nito naramdamang wala na siya kasi saka niya pa narinig ang tumatakbo nitong footsteps. Tumakbo na din siya and good thing she can see her bodyguards already.
“Brigham!” She shouted, at lumingon din ito. They immediately ran to her direction.
“Izzy!” Clark shouted behind her.
“Brigham!” Desperate niyang tawag at tumakbo na rin ng mas mabilis. Her steps echoing sa empty hallway.
Thankfully mabilis siya napalibutan ng mga ito. Nakahabol naman si Clark at nagpipilit makalapit sa kanya.
“I’m her boyfriend! Let me talk to her! Izzy, we are not finish yet.” Nagsisigaw ito habang pilit pinipigilan ng dalawa niyang bodyguards. He is a jock so nahihirapan din ang mga ito kontrolin si Clark.
“I am not your girlfriend anymore.” Sabi niya dito.
“Okay. Fine! I agree with the thing you said.” He said desperately.
Napabuntong-hininga na lang siya. She never thought the playboy Clark would do this. Imbes maging masaya siya, nagi-guilty na tuloy siya konti.
Habang nakikita niyang pinipigilan ng mga bodyguards niya ang boyfriend niya, nakita niyang tumango si Brigham sa kung sinong palapit sa kanila. Lumingon naman siya at nagsisi.
“Brigham. Back to the field?” Tanong ni Deiderick.
“Yeah.”
“Isn’t that your boyfriend Isabella?” Baling nito sa kanya na nakangisi habang turo nito ang kawawang Clark.
“So?”
Bigla nitong hinarap si Clark. “Aren’t you supposed to be in detention?” Panunuya nito.
“Screw you!” Galit na sabi ni Clark. “Why are you allowing him to get near her?”
“Oh, this?” Sabi ni Deiderick at biglang lumapit sa kanya.
Akala niya pa nga at aakbayan siya pero he just put his hands on his waists lang pala taunting Clark.
“Hey! Don’t get near her!” Sigaw ni Clark.
“He is allowed to lad.” Sabi sa kanya ng isang bodyguard niya.
“ And why is that?” Inis na tanong ni Clark while looking at her questioningly.
He is allowed to get near her that’s true. Because her Dad said so.
“ Beacause I am not you.” Sagot naman ni Deiderick.
Humarap naman ito sa kanya at hinablot ang braso at hinila sa tabi.
“Why is my sister insisting about hosting a party on Saturday?”
“Why why?” Naiiritang tanong niya. “It is normal.”
“It is not for people who are not your friends.” Inis nitong turan sa kanya.
“Why are you blaming me if she wants to host a party?”
“Because I know that it is not her idea and you have always been a bad influence to her!” Galit nitong bulong.
“Too bad I am her best friend!” Pang-iinis pa niya.
“So, did he confess already?” Bawi nito sa kanya.
“None of your businesss.”
“Oh, let me guess. You did not give him a chance to! Because you are a coward.”
“Don't you like that? We can live happily ever after now. You won't need to steal me from him.” Sabi niya dito at nilagay ang kamay sa chest nito. She saw a change into his expression. It is almost like he wants what she is doing. She smirked. "And I am not a coward." Sabi niya sabay tulak dito.
“You are and you are going to tell my sister to stop asking me about agreeing in hosting a party at our house because I won’t!” Inis na inis nitong sabi.
“Why can’t you just let her.”
“If I am, the consequence is I am going to make sure to separate you both!”
“How I wish natamaan ka ng suntok ni Clark.” Naiinis niyang sabi dito.
For a split second, she saw something in his eyes. Hurt? Pero sandaling-sandali lang kaya hindi siya sigurado.
Bigla siya nitong hinila pabalik kina Brigham. Si Clark naman halos mamatay na si Deiderick sa tingin nito.
“Bring him with me to detention.” Sabi ni Deiderick sa mga bodyguards niya. “And Isabella? See you tonight.” Malakas nitong sabi para marinig ni Clark.
Buti na lang sila lang ang tao sa hallway dahil kung hindi, hinimatay na siguro siya.
Wait, did Deiderick just try to make Clark jealous?
